actually there is no issue with the wifi of this laptop. just that it reception is not strong.
just try going to a place where your phone get only 1 bar wifi signal. then check this laptop, i'm very sure the laptop cant even detect the wifi network at all.

That is exactly why i want to buy this laptop. I heard also dell service is good (or at least better than as*s and ac*r) so if my wifi got problem, i can always ask them to replace with QC ed wifi card/antenna.
*
Have you bought it and went for warranty for the wifi issue?

Follow up from my report on the incompatible kingfast msata (sata 2) that caused the long boot up time. Bought another msata brand (mydigitalssd which is sata 3 & this time the Vostro 5470 behaved like its supposed to be - fast boot up!

As suggested by others here, I installed the entire Win8 on the new 128GB msata. Then use easybcd to point towards the freshly installed OS on msata. Formatted the hdd partition containing the old Win8 files & I'm happy with this setup.

For those interested in the msata:

Thanks for the info. Btw, the link for this product now doesn't ship to msia for 128gb type, only 32 and 64. Did u have this problem last time?

I also saw different brand also like Emperor Disk or Kingspec. Really dont know which one can be reliable. Sandisk also got this 128gb version on their website but i can't find anywhere selling it.

Anyway my lap is vostro 5460. I have seen one bro on this topic installed Sandisk 64gb and works. Any idea 128gb will be compatible too? biggrin.gif

I'm very satisfied with the mydigitalssd 128GB that i have in my Vostro. Its stable & performed like normal hdd with lots of read write to it since i use photoshop, illustrator & video encoding on it. Must say the new i5 is weak in video encoding compared to my old i5 460M nb. That's the real trade off for double the battery life & 0.7kg lighter which I'm ok with.

As for sandisk, maybe some others who have used it can comment. I presume if it works with the 64gb model, should be ok for higher capacities.

I bought 2 units of 5460 for my kids early 2013 and I'm thinking of getting the 5470 version before yearend closing for tax rebate purposes coz i didn't claim it when I bought for my kids back in 2013.

And I was thinking of replacing the HDD with SSD for both speed and weight. Will it work? I have no problems with weak wifi card coz there plenty of adapters out there.

Lads, listen to me on this. Previous owner of Vostro here.

It seems like the infamous wifi issues again. Ohh Dell......dont get me wrong though, still a fan as after-sale service is top notch.

Was very very disappointed at one time, so my friends and I decided to swap wifi cards on this model (Azurewave, Atheros, Realtek, those cheap-ish wifi cards used in Acer, Asus but never attempt to give you headaches on wifi issues) about five different wifi cards they were.

Theres nothing wrong about the case, design, or implementations whatever bull you may put. Just change the default Intel wifi card, I dont know if Intel cards are so crap, maybe on certain models. Better still if you give Dell a call and ask for different card (unlikely to happen). Go out and buy one I guess.

You can thank me later. And yeah all those cheap-ish wifi cards gave me excellent connections.

At curve now. Really intrigued by 5480. Its sleek and looks can do the job. However I would like to know two things.

Battery life.

And WiFi issues. Is it major?

I gotten my 5480 few days ago, so far no issue on wifi. Its using the 7265 wireless unlike 7260 in the 5470. Not sure if that is better.

Battery life? Haven't used it extensively to test..
