It is almost year end anyway, why not wait a little bit since usually they will give some discounts anyway to clear stocks. Go for a new unit. You'll love your mk7. I know I do  smile.gif

Yes I've decided to get a new unit biggrin.gif
So you drive a MK7 too?! Since you said you love it then I'm guessing there's no problems with it right? Hahaha

QUOTE(kcng @ Nov 19 2013, 06:36 PM)
the engine oil release is down there near the gearbox...

the gearbox totally feel different then before?
maybe they updated the software....
wink.gif

if u have a clutch change or a mecha change, u need to re-do your alignment...
if your alignment is not out, most likely is that they updated the software of the gearbox...
*
I already did 2x software update previously during service, before they call me to come in again recently.
Don't think they change my clutch, as they did not mention it. They just say change mecha, and I saw a carton box about 30x30x30cm.
Alignment seems not out after driving for some time.

The car is superb to drive and super fuel efficient. With occasional sporty driving and city driving most of the time, my 1st full tank can run up to 580km with 1/4 remaning.

No problems so far but u should understand the characteristics of a DSG compared to conventional torque converter box.

Nice! Mind to tell me more of how I should treat DSG?

I think I've read somewhere that I should let it warm up or something before driving and use sports mode during traffic jam? tongue.gif

I was told when queing or waiting, put the gear to 'N' position. Do not rev your car past the red line. Make sure car is at standstill position before engaging reverse gear.

better go have a alignment reading to double confirm... or maybe they re-align your car for you after changing mecha... thats why alignment is ok...

because DSG is basically a manual gearbox with automated gear changes...

so let me ask u, if u are driving a manual car and u are queuing or waiting, do u put in gear 1 and hold the clutch?

The meter on VDO is the water temperature (radiator).
There is another oil temperature at the MFD. Before whack, need to drive gently for 10-15 minutes for the oil to reach at least 80C.

Not planning to go for alignment, as I don't care current set of tyres, want to wear it out and change new ones tongue.gif
So, I'll be a guinea pig myself for this test.

I guess not everyone has drove a manual long enough or stuck in jam frequently wink.gif Quite easy to understand the concept of how manual gear works and engage clutch, and how it applies in DSG as compared to conventional auto gearbox.

The water temperature is visible on the bottom left of speedometer. Normal should be middle at 90C.

The oil temperature need to scroll the MFD menu (the square LCD box). It will show:
Oil Temperature
xx C

You can go all the way to 120-130C for oil temperature. But the water should still be at 90C.

BTW, just curious, why need to do alignment after change mecha ? Mecha is related to the gearbox, and not the suspension, steering arm, etc.
