Hi guys,

I am looking to get a new Passat since it has rm15k discount until the end of this month.

went for short test drive this morning, was pretty okay. however, i read there were concerns about the car's reliability and DSG gearbox problems. I asked the SA and he told me current 2013 gearboxes are all fine, only the previous batches had problems.

please do advise smile.gif

The water temperature is visible on the bottom left of speedometer. Normal should be middle at 90C.

The oil temperature need to scroll the MFD menu (the square LCD box). It will show:
Oil Temperature
xx C

You can go all the way to 120-130C for oil temperature. But the water should still be at 90C.

BTW, just curious, why need to do alignment after change mecha ? Mecha is related to the gearbox, and not the suspension, steering arm, etc.

gearbox is connected to driveshaft...
to replace mecha, u need to drop the gearbox... to drop the gearbox, u need to first disconnect the drive shaft...

some cars wont need to disconnect their drive shaft, like the renault megane (if i am not mistaken)...
but generally, u need to... as the drive shaft is connected to the flywheel of the gearbox...

the gist of it in summary is:
when u disconnect the driveshaft... your knuckle, etc will go into "free play", and when u fix everything back, the "free play" will cause the "mis-alignment"...
'mis-alignment" can range from off-center steering wheel, steering wheel is centered but car going to one side etc...

Spark plugs might need to be replaced. Had the same engine light too, car will sort of choke/jerk if I step hard. But quite stupid for a VW to have this prob at such a low mileage, mine was changed at 35k sad.gif

Polo sedan does not use DSG so it will not have the DSG issues.

With all of these DSG issues still want to buy?

My wife wanted to trade in her dugong for a tsi since there is discounts on 2013 model ( approaching year end) and i told her one thing...buy new car to avoid trouble....buy vw is asking for trouble!

Her dugong alreadi 160,xxx on the odometer and only thing that failed was the front absorber after hitting a massive pothole ( more like going into a longkang) and timing belt. Moral of story = dont ever buy a VW if you think its a fine german engineering. its rubbish except for the Golf R's and the GTI's.

Only reason i think why they fallback to torque converters is lesser after sales nightmare to deal with. Polo has been sold by thousands in malaysia and imagine if selling 10 units, 5 comes back for replacement, harder for the SC's to deal with it.

By using torque converters, they give u better reliability with crappier performance. Dont hope to see lower consumption compared to the dsg.....unless they crapped out the map and put in some fuel economic map..will be a nightmare to drive

The Jetta and Passat are not rubbish as you have implied. THey are both fine cars.

What is "dugong"?

dugong is referring to toyota vios. What is the key point for the golf tsi compared with ford focus and other competitors. Want something not korean, malaysian and japanese.

I wonder who came up with "dugong". So it's a Toyota Vios. Funny renames. Thanks for the information.

No experience with the Golf TSI but a friend owns the Jetta. It's a fine machine, quiet and refined with smooth acceleration.

If you don't want Korean, Malaysian or Japanese, very limited choices you got there.

Booked the fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost. Price wise, its on par with the Polo tsi, 0.2 liter lesser less, have some gear juddering issue - thank to DCT gearbox that you cannot run away. Potential issues that may arise would be leaking oil seals around the gearbox. Not many cases has been reported on direct failure of the gearbox except a few blown cars with blown clutches due to adding a supercharger doh.gif
