The turret flying is due to explosion of ammunition stored in the crew compartment.

Secondary explosion after the ammunition storage section get hit, common design flaw on those old Soviet Tanks.

these flaw still persist on the latest model.

Does this also apply to our PT-91M? IINM, it was a modernized version of T-72 by Polish Tank Manufacturer.

thats what i'm asking in thread V8..haha that is a serious flaw and i hope Bumar Labedy did re-design the interior for that ammuniton storage..

it's the old soviet design philosophy: life is cheap.

probably still apply on our tanks as well.
unless they adding additional armor on the ammunition compartment and auto loader parts to avoid cooking off.

tank crew look cool but they are the most poor guys and get my sympathy when the get attacked....
not to said the explosion let them become ash, imagine the ammunition penetrate and burn inside the cockpit, all crew suffer chocking and high heat until the last breath. .......

Reactive armor plates, When some shell/rocket (especially RPG) hit that "brick", the brick will be triggered to self explosion, use this explosion force to deflect the incoming projectile. After one use, the tank area that covered with the reactive armor plates will no longer be protected by reactive armor (since the brick had exploded)

Nowadays, some RPG warheads had tandem warheads to pre-trigger the reactive armor to explode early, making it less effective at countering RPG.
