Anybody heard about the AKR02 IEM? How are they? They priced it very expensive. Curious if they sound nice.

Here is a news to share, one of the Ak DIY-er who also received a nice review in head fi, the mod from Mezzo Soprano : http://www.mezzohifi.com/
Not as famous as Red Wine Audio but their mod is also recognized. The guy who is doing this mod is currently in KL and we can save the shipping cost and Paypal charges if we want to deal with him. He provides the dac change mod(not similar with RWA as they still preserve the volume button and there is a switch for the alternation of filter) and also bypassing the 22ohm impedance of Ak100. QUOTE(joshuachew @ May 21 2014, 02:20 PM) Just a sharing. MSAk is also one of the mod on par with RWAk. And I find that the mod of WM8741 DAC mod is much more interesting than Red Wine Audio's. They didnt sacrifice the volume control of it and you still can use it as a portable DAP. Since Phanom is at Malaysia, he is offering a special price that is a bit more cheaper than the price stated at website. Too bad I am at Penang now, if not would like to try out his modded MSAk with WM8741 DAC mod. |

When I saw that he implements the chips in software mode and not in hardware mode, I was like......... Haha. That's too cool. How much did he charge you for the AK100 modding? And why is he down here and for how long do you know? |

How did he preserve the volume control? Considering the original WM8740 DAC is configured in software mode, the only way to implement the WM8741 is to bypass the software mode to hardware mode.
Unless he has created his own custom firmware OS to work with the WM8741? This was the problem faced by RWA, he did try to find Listrid to come up with one to support the WM8741 but no news since then.. |

Maybe you should contact him personally. Unless he has created his own custom firmware OS to work with the WM8741? Beside on the DAC mod while preserving the Volume control, he also able to add a digital filter on it. And also in the headfi forum also mentioned that a balance output can be added to your Ak100. Try search for MSAK100 in Headfi and you will have a few reviews on it. |

I ever tried MSAK100 and some prototype cables from MS before when Cravenz of head-fi was still active in Singapore as MS sometimes asked Cravenz to audition and get feedback from other head-fi members in SG.
I ever thought of getting MS to modify my AK100 through Cravenz, but before committing myself to the mod, Cravenz disappeared from head-fi and I bought AK120 |

Emailed him about doing the WM8471 mods. If this goes through. I will have an AK120 Titan modded by both Red Wine and Mezzo Soprano. Lol. I think I'll be the only one in the world. Hehe.

IMO, after adding the digital filter for RWAK100, it would going to be an advantage over the Ak240 as you may be able to alter the frequency response of it. Sound wise, would need to have an A/B comparison for both units. A fully modded MSRWAK120 Titan vs Ak240 would be an epic review and the first ever in the field of audiophile.
