If he gets the 64GB one, its not a bad idea to turn it into storage and move your OS to the msata SSD so it become boot drive instead of ssd caching
*
at the moment the configuration is only for caching?
OS not installed at the SSD?

Yeap. I double checked for the new AW and for AW14 RM4999 it shows "750GB 7200RPM SATA 3Gb/s + 64GB mSATA SSD Caching"
So if you want SSD boot drive, gona get through those hassle moving the OS files to SSD rclxub.gif

In total, how long it took from placing order till arrival at your door step?
Order placement via online or via phone?
Got 10% discount? brows.gif

Note: Few reviews noted bad LCD brightness and device gets easily hot
*
i placed the order 17/6 and i got it 8/7.
Thats about 3 weeks.
i placed my order via phone and email....and got 5% discount and free HDD.

QUOTE(Jayi @ Jul 9 2013, 11:12 AM)
Definitely yes. search for Intel Rapid Storage Technology software in your system, you can configure from there.
are you sure ??  laugh.gif
*
Thanks! I'll try it in a bit!

QUOTE(Superman7 @ Jul 9 2013, 11:16 AM)
mSata storage is only 64GB. Why would you want to use it as a storage since you haev 750GB of HDD already dedicated for that?
This kinda defeat the purpose of hybrid hdd right? rclxub.gif
*
the 750GB will be used as data storage only.
i m too used to SSD speed for bootup and application startup. So it's kinda slow right now.

QUOTE(Jayi @ Jul 9 2013, 11:16 AM)
Pretty hot at which area bro? Palm rest?
for the right moment i suggest that you just raise the bottom to get more fresh air.
btw for M14x R1 R2 the notepal U2 perfectly fit. Of couse U3 will be better with 3 fans and fan controller but its very large and im afraid it kinda oversized and hard to fit in your backpack if you moving alot.
*
only on the right hand side of the palm rest and the rear vent...
i think this beast definitely needs a cooler pad...

5% discount and free HDD sounds like a good offer.
But if I could get 10% discount, that would be perfect laugh.gif

I think you should try setup the msata ssd to a storage drive 1st then try do benchmarks on it. IINM, the write and read speed isnt as fast as aftermarkets one due to the firmware used sad.gif

Kinda same for my R2. Guess its due to same structure, the right hand side of palm rest is hdd underneath then followed by the bulky useless optical drive.
for my case, the hdd can get up to 50C under heavy usage. Try monitor yours and let us know the result rclxms.gif

Guys
after the short usage last night....
the AW14 can get pretty hot...
And that is before any stress testing for gaming is done...
So i guess I may need a cooler pad...
I am looking at the Notepal U3 and Notepal X3.
Any of you have any experience with these?
Or maybe there are better ones out there?
Thanks!
*
Just put a book at the back end of the laptop if you're in a decently cooled room. There's no need for a cooler pad. Trust me, it cools pretty good with a 1 inch book or any other lift you can find.

My SSD hardly goes over 38C when gaming. Idles at 23-29C.

I don't like carrying around a notebook cooler, it's another peripheral I have to stuff in the bag when 1 inch book does well for everything smile.gif

In fact, I don't have to carry a book, I can pretty much use anything.

xandman I'd suggest getting yourself a SSD, anywhere from 240-512gb (you don't really need a 940g SSD right now). SSD used for games, and software. Nothing else. Keep your porno and whatever else on the 750g that you'll use a secondary storage bit.

You can go up to 3.
1 x mSATA SSD
1 x 2.5'' 9.5mm HDD/SSD
1 x 2.5'' 9.5mm HDD/SSD replacing the Optical Drive.

wait.. now I'm confused.
The mSATA 64GB + 750GB HDD is a hybrid type of harddrive (all-in-one) or it is a separate item of SSD and HDD ?

To be honest, I hardly use it. Well, used it once to install Mass Effect 3 and Max Payne 3. I recently used it to test my 32gb of RAM. No idea why I even bothered with a blu-ray drive since I mostly use my Dune for blu-ray disc.

But I will admit that it's useful when you least expect it. When you need to memtest your system, or when you need to use a boot disc, or recovery disc, that's one reason I have it.
