Hey guys, was cleaning my drawers and found the stock ram that came with my M17xR4. Removed it immediately when I received the laptop!

QUOTE(sadukarzz @ Jul 2 2013, 03:16 AM) Dell customer service called me after I placed an inquiry on the new Alienware 14. Here's some info I get from my questions asking them. Hope it helps I suppose it's the only option you have for AW if that's the case. Either you want it or not.1. The color of the back lid is not changeable, it comes only in silver. 2. Customization of specs would not be available anytime soon. 3. Alienware Vindicator backpack is available for MYR 200+ forgot exact number. 4. Shipping time for this model is around 3 weeks from confirmation. I suggest you guys to place inquiry on their website if you wanna buy. My agent (from customer service) said he can get me a better price for all Dell/Alienware products. Good luck ! Gonna place my order as soon as I get a solid database of reviews xD |

QUOTE(xandman @ Jul 2 2013, 01:45 PM) When I say ugly, I just mean the front of the back pack but I bet the insides are still the same as the orion. The Orion is a great back pack, been using it for a year. It has a compartment in front (two smaller areas on the front compartment to put stuff), one in the middle, and one in the back where you put the laptop. Laptop area is easily accessible in case you're at the airport or wherever and they need to see it. The back pack is pretty great quality I think, I've put in a lot of equipment and it's still holding strongly. I usually travel with a mouse, power banks, tons of cables, phone dock, other accessories. Plus a bunch of stationary, plus the laptop/power cables (which are pretty heavy). Once you have the back pack on your shoulders, you don't feel much because it's so comfortable. Possibly the best back pack I've used so far and very sturdy. I also like the plain front design compared to vindicator but that's just personal preference. |

Had my touch pad replaced today and for some time now I've been seeing white/black boxes appear on the right hand side of my screen. It sometimes goes away when I run my mouse over it, but I've updated gpu drivers, reinstalled windows and it's still there. So took some photographs for Dell and they're going to change my motherboard, ram and the graphics card. Damn, I was hoping it wasn't that serious. Could be that they have no idea what the problem is. My ram is fine, memtest cleared the memory, but Dell diagnostics found a few errors. System is working fine otherwise. |

Hi, DDR3L is just a lower voltage RAM (1.35v vs 1.5v). You can still use the DDR3 ram for your machine. They're still debating if it'll affect the battery performance with the difference but I doubt it, the brand is a beast. Don't expect ultrabook battery durations.

What nonsense? Alienware machines are built to be upgraded. If it's down to being only done by Dell or official whatever, then there's less incentive to buy the brand. |

When I bought my M17xR4, I got a 10% discount. Then while the laptop was being configured, they dropped the price by RM249, I got that amount refunded as well.

QUOTE(mansooriqbal @ Jul 8 2013, 01:53 AM) Couldn't you just dload the OS from the Internet (just use your serial to activate again)? Was going through my SSD and found that majority of the space used is on games. Haha, very sweet. I like the line at the bottom that lights up! Not a fan of the lights on the top cover though. How do you like it? |

Thought AWs were using Windows 8.1, then realised it isn't released yet. I'm going to stick with Windows 7 as long as I can. Not a fan of tiled shit, and neither am I a fan of the crap they did in 8.1. So I won't be changing until a new machine I guess.
I can't be swiping the damn screen all day, that's why I have a mouse. This post has been edited by refnulf: Jul 9 2013, 12:38 AM |

QUOTE(xandman @ Jul 9 2013, 06:29 AM) Guys Just put a book at the back end of the laptop if you're in a decently cooled room. There's no need for a cooler pad. Trust me, it cools pretty good with a 1 inch book or any other lift you can find.after the short usage last night.... the AW14 can get pretty hot... And that is before any stress testing for gaming is done... So i guess I may need a cooler pad... I am looking at the Notepal U3 and Notepal X3. Any of you have any experience with these? Or maybe there are better ones out there? Thanks! QUOTE(Jayi @ Jul 9 2013, 01:59 PM) I think you should try setup the msata ssd to a storage drive 1st then try do benchmarks on it. IINM, the write and read speed isnt as fast as aftermarkets one due to the firmware used My SSD hardly goes over 38C when gaming. Idles at 23-29C.Kinda same for my R2. Guess its due to same structure, the right hand side of palm rest is hdd underneath then followed by the bulky useless optical drive. for my case, the hdd can get up to 50C under heavy usage. Try monitor yours and let us know the result This post has been edited by refnulf: Jul 9 2013, 02:47 PM |
