Lowyat official just release 'first look' on AW14. not sure if im slowpoke or otherwise.. tongue.gif

http://www.lowyat.net/2013/06/14/9403/firs...-gaming-laptop/

IMO, m14x looks much better than the AW14. the thing i found drawback design from AW14 are the keyboard layout, the lit surrounding the touchpad, and i kinda miss the lit grill.

but i do like the light surround the AW14. looks pretty cool.

So, what they call new alienware? Still using 'R' series? (R4, R2, R3)

actually, i prefer the previous grill design over than the new 1 too. or if alienware could make mixed ones, remain the old grill design, add surround lightning and maintain the alien power button, then it will be better. drool.gif

I also think the grill type looks better... the new one (AW 14 or AW17) look very bulky and thick eventhough lighter sad.gif

Hi, got a problem here with AW M14x. Recently I bought a SSD and a HDD caddy bay. I removed the optical disk, replacing it with the HDD caddy bay. Then I transfer the HDD into the caddy bay, and I install the SSD into the main HDD slot. The problem that occur is boot time is very long (>1min) and sometimes will stuck at windows boot logo.
Note: Both SSD and HDD got no chkdsk error, no disk health error
*
Looks like the caddy bay HDD is dragging the SSD boot time. Normally with 2 hard disks where one HDD is faster than another, it will have such delay problem.

Eh? I thought the GTX780M is much, much better?  hmm.gif

Oh I see. I am not sure that is why I ask any BIG different from the two GPU. Thanks for clarifying. So means I will wait for the GTX780 to have optional customization at Dell MY before order the AW17.

Thanks for the reply. But when I test it with my asus laptop, it boot very fast (<10sec.)

IINM, the caddy bay has slower transfer rate than 6gb/s SATA ones. normally, caddy drives can run max 3gb/s only.

But the boot time should not be affected rite?
Asus = <10sec.
AW = If boot, >1min. Sometimes will stuck at windows logo
(^both laptop have SSD and HDD; HDD installed inside the caddy bay)

What about if you remove the HDD caddy?
Test with SSD alone.

and the Boot Order in BIOS, already set to SSD ?

I got no problem when test with SSD alone. The problem starts when I replace the optical disk with the HDD caddy. Is it possible the boot order changed when I install the HDD?

Well, it could be from the beginning the first order is ODD.
Thats why check it first.

looks like related to the jumper for the HDD.

Already test this, I don't think this is the problem. Maybe jumper related problem then hmm.gif
