Yeah, those slot-load optical drives have been around since the R1 haha laugh.gif
Many people complaint cannot eject CDs, and slot-load optical drives also make installing Jack Sparrow programs/games more challenging  sweat.gif

Few questions will be most likely asked for the new alienware models.
1. Custom Orders Plate possible with the screw slots? Bear in mind, just order the custom plate.
2. Cleaning instruction? Call technician for maintenance??
3. Stucked cd? Call technician i suppose( need to fully diassemble? what happens when something snaps or scratched the body?).
4. Battery suddenly DOA after 2 weeks or longer of used? Call technician for battery replacement?
5. Card stucked? Call technician?
and there's more actually. Lazy to list out.

I suppose based on the new design, Dell Might be milking more $$$ charges for their service.

1. I guess custom plates can surely be obtained as long as one is willing to pay haha laugh.gif

2. Have to wait for comprehensive teardowns of the AW 14 and 17 to comment. But so far I'm not liking what I see on the AW 14 hmm.gif It looks as complicated to teardown for minor maintenance as the M14x. The AW 17 should be fine I guess, most larger notebooks are more "conveniently" designed for easier upgradability

3. As for the rest, just call tech support lo since its under warranty laugh.gif Stucked CDs noneed to completely teardown the M14x, but its still pretty cumbersome laugh.gif

dont spend on 18. totally not worth it, except if you are looking for total desktop replacement. dual GTX780M = GTX780 PC version.

So far I'm very happy using Alienware.. eventhough i read the review that MSI perform better than the AW 17... the design however looks bulky than R4...

but lighter than R4. the base is made of magnesium alloy which reduced the weight, lid by aluminium and palm rest by....soft touch plastic i suppose? hmm.gif

So far only seeing pics of the event via social media for the unveiling from a friend of mine whos at the event at Gardens. Wonder if they'll have highest specs than the GTX 770M currently on offer for the M17.

A thought crossed my mind that if they new lineup here isn't a major improvement other than exterior looks and aesthetics, I'd rather upgrade my current proc and GPU myself.

Hi, got a problem here with AW M14x. Recently I bought a SSD and a HDD caddy bay. I removed the optical disk, replacing it with the HDD caddy bay. Then I transfer the HDD into the caddy bay, and I install the SSD into the main HDD slot. The problem that occur is boot time is very long (>1min) and sometimes will stuck at windows boot logo.
Note: Both SSD and HDD got no chkdsk error, no disk health error

Actually is there very much different between the GTX770 vs GTX780? From web, the two performs almost closely to each others.
