Wow I see you managed to get this set. Congratz!
Makes me feel like opening up my set... my wifey thinks Technic sets look 'naked' and cannot be displayed in our house. Good to have a Technic expert among us. Keep up the good work, sharing and "poisoning" us.... QUOTE(cute_boboi @ Apr 22 2013, 02:34 PM) Ok, updated my blog. No MOC / modifications lately. Still waiting for parts. Other stuff not reach KL yet Lego 9398 - Motorized Rescue Helicopter Nothing new in this, as per building instruction. The length and width is bigger than Unimog & Crawler, mainly due to the main-rotor. Height wise, lower. I did not put on any stickers ... yet. ![]() I don't know about others, but my winch is very tight. Due to the grey-pin bush with friction below. The motor can't turn this, so I replaced with a 5.5 axle with stop. BTW, I use my own longer string. However, when I disengage the gear for winch, it is free fall when something is on the hook. I may need to sacrifice some spare bush-pin and sand-down some of the friction on the pin. Or research more for other solutions. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « I do not have the power-function motor set (8293), so I take the parts from other vehicles to try here: - M-motor - Battery box - IR receiver - Remote control - 8-tooth gear - 24 tooth gear with clutch (white) All works fine, after the above fix for the winch. Here is the video with the winch, rear-cargo door, landing-wheels and rotor. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « Something I note (before I do further research on internet), when the rotor rotates, it has momentum and when I stop the motor, the rotor will continue for a while. This can mean disaster for the gears, as the rotor forces the gear to rotate the motor. Hence, a smart design here for the safety mechanism, there is a gear on L-beam which can roll up to prevent gears grinding. Also, this means the motor can only rotate the rotors in one single-direction. If switch the other direction, the gears will rotate freely. Which is what a helicopter rotor should be, rotate in one direction for lift. Below is the video of how it works. » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « All in all, the helicopter is quite complete. There is a stick to adjust the rotor pitch. One thing missing though, is the tilt (front and back) for the chopper to move forward/backward, in real life. |

QUOTE(faish888 @ Apr 22 2013, 03:26 PM) Wow I see you managed to get this set. Congratz! Thanks bro Makes me feel like opening up my set... my wifey thinks Technic sets look 'naked' and cannot be displayed in our house. Good to have a Technic expert among us. Keep up the good work, sharing and "poisoning" us.... Yes, it's quite painful to my finger tips. I'm quite particular about aligning the pins horizontal/vertical in the hole, so have to twist. To pull out, sometimes I use a plier. To push in >2L axles to proper depth for both sides, I use test-pen philip-screwdriver. Yeah, Technic looks naked / holes / opened up. And the beams also full of holes. I wrap it up with big plastic bags for now, if I don't play with it. It's quite big to display in case, e.g. 9398 4x4 Crawler is the smallest and need at least 50 x 30 x 30 cm. Unimog is longer. Helicopter is even longer and wider, main-rotor diameter is at least 70cm Therefore, for the chopper, I may disassemble it. Still thinking to strip down for parts ... I'm not Technic expert lah ... still learning ... |

QUOTE(Chaud @ Apr 22 2013, 11:36 AM) QUOTE(Ultraman the great @ Apr 22 2013, 11:51 AM) MUST resist..... IMHO the cheapest way to add Power Functions to a train is to buy 7938 Passenger Train and transfer the power functions parts over. The 7938 by itself is too "short" IMHO so I combined two sets together, then use the Power Functions parts for my yet to be built Maersk Train. Hope this helps to inject more poison for 7938! yeah can add to the length of the cargo and passenger trains. make the tracks go 3 different full circles together with the extensions. hehe.... yes too bad. actually quite a few new trains dont come with it, like the horizon express. thats why if the smaller sets got power function, just buy first. QUOTE(faish888 @ Apr 22 2013, 01:03 PM) Thread is zooming along today like a bullet train. Starting to wonder if I am missing out on something cool? Lego selling Lone Ranger train set with tracks but no power functions. So how to play - push along by hand? They want you to buy more train sets and power functions! Video is darn poisonous. Some more got maersk and emerald night trains. Going quite fast too! Wonder if that is normal speed or they use more than 1 power function to increase speed? Maybe those who have built can share experience on speed of trains and how long the batteries can last. Thx. QUOTE(Caryane @ Apr 22 2013, 02:31 PM) If i'm not mistaken, the train have 7 speed. Can control from the remote, slowest, slow, normal, slightly faster, fast, faster, fastest. Yeah, I don't remember exactly how many speed but it can really go from a very slow crawl to progressively higher speeds! It's quite fast at the highest speed setting. Tracks those bends quite well too on the standard curve tracks, with the flexible tracks you will have to brace them otherwise you are going to get a train crash! My train haven't arrive so i'm not too sure Power consumption wise it is pretty good. I use Sanyo Eneloop rechargables on my set and they last very long. I don't use regular single use batteries anymore for the sake of our environment so I wouldn't know how those performs... It used to be the cheapest way to get straight tracks. Lucky I bought some before the prices soared...USD 19.99 set now cheapest is RM220. I think 7937 will go EOL this year so better grab soon. |
