I'm getting 2nd box also wink.gif going to rip parts from this box for MOC.
But I don't really care much on the box condition, as long as no missing parts.

Reserve price is USD1,400 shakehead.gif

I rather send a bunch of minifigs to "chrome" it properly. There are proper ways to chrome it.
Otherwise, cincai chrome it locally also can, for display but not to play. Else will flake off.

Yeah, there are a handful of places in the web that offers to customize your minifigs. Honestly Mr. Gold doesn't rub on me at all, it looks horrible. I think any of those customized minfigs look way better than that! If I do get lucky (which I won't) on Mr. Gold I'll just sell it and donate part of the proceeds to a charity...
*
From the pics, I think it is silver-Gold-Chrome. Not Yellow-Gold-chrome (which I thought 915 Gold colour. If pure 999 gold, then pale-yellow gold).

Ok, updated my blog. No MOC / modifications lately. Still waiting for parts. yawn.gif
Other stuff not reach KL yet yawn.gif

Lego 9398 - Motorized Rescue Helicopter

Nothing new in this, as per building instruction. The length and width is bigger than Unimog & Crawler, mainly due to the main-rotor. Height wise, lower. I did not put on any stickers ... yet.

user posted image

I don't know about others, but my winch is very tight. Due to the grey-pin bush with friction below. The motor can't turn this, so I replaced with a 5.5 axle with stop. BTW, I use my own longer string. However, when I disengage the gear for winch, it is free fall when something is on the hook.

I may need to sacrifice some spare bush-pin and sand-down some of the friction on the pin. Or research more for other solutions.

I do not have the power-function motor set (8293), so I take the parts from other vehicles to try here:
- M-motor
- Battery box
- IR receiver
- Remote control
- 8-tooth gear
- 24 tooth gear with clutch (white)

All works fine, after the above fix for the winch. Here is the video with the winch, rear-cargo door, landing-wheels and rotor.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

Something I note (before I do further research on internet), when the rotor rotates, it has momentum and when I stop the motor, the rotor will continue for a while. This can mean disaster for the gears, as the rotor forces the gear to rotate the motor. Hence, a smart design here for the safety mechanism, there is a gear on L-beam which can roll up to prevent gears grinding.

Also, this means the motor can only rotate the rotors in one single-direction. If switch the other direction, the gears will rotate freely. Which is what a helicopter rotor should be, rotate in one direction for lift. Below is the video of how it works.

» Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... «

All in all, the helicopter is quite complete. There is a stick to adjust the rotor pitch.
One thing missing though, is the tilt (front and back) for the chopper to move forward/backward, in real life.

Wow I see you managed to get this set. Congratz!  thumbup.gif

Makes me feel like opening up my set... my wifey thinks Technic sets look 'naked' and cannot be displayed in our house. laugh.gif  I find building Technic sets hurt my fingers a lot. Some more very hard to clean and disassemble to store away.  Any tips to share?

Good to have a Technic expert among us. Keep up the good work, sharing and "poisoning" us....  rclxms.gif
*
Thanks bro icon_rolleyes.gif

Yes, it's quite painful to my finger tips. I'm quite particular about aligning the pins horizontal/vertical in the hole, so have to twist.

To pull out, sometimes I use a plier. To push in >2L axles to proper depth for both sides, I use test-pen philip-screwdriver.

Yeah, Technic looks naked / holes / opened up. And the beams also full of holes.

I wrap it up with big plastic bags for now, if I don't play with it. It's quite big to display in case, e.g. 9398 4x4 Crawler is the smallest and need at least 50 x 30 x 30 cm. Unimog is longer. Helicopter is even longer and wider, main-rotor diameter is at least 70cm rclxub.gif including tail + tail-rotor, about 1m in length.

Therefore, for the chopper, I may disassemble it. Still thinking to strip down for parts ...

I'm not Technic expert lah ... still learning ... blush.gif

If helicopter/plane/flight fan, this is good. I'm not so much into it though.

1m is tip-to-tip tongue.gif main-rotor until rear-rotor tip. If body + tail, it's about 50-60cm only smile.gif

Yes, the battery hangs at the back of F1 #42000. Due to the lack of space inside the vehicle itself.

I think current big set are:
8110
9398

8043 Motorized Excavator icon_rolleyes.gif

Some old sets like:
8421 Motorized Crane
8275 Motorized Bulldozer
tongue.gif

I think Technic can categorized into few types:
- Big / motorized 8421/8275/8110/9398 ?
- Medium 42000/9396 ?
- Smaller sets 42002, 42003, 42004, 42006, 42007, ... ?

However, there are only a small group of Technic fans, if compare to City, Star Wars, Ninjago, Super Heroes, etc. sad.gif
