End-of-Life. Discontinued. No more in production.
If the set is unique enough, the price will start to rise...

IMHO the cheapest way to add Power Functions to a train is to buy 7938 Passenger Train and transfer the power functions parts over. The 7938 by itself is too "short" IMHO so I combined two sets together, then use the Power Functions parts for my yet to be built Maersk Train. Hope this helps to inject more poison for 7938! brows.gif
Yeah, I don't remember exactly how many speed but it can really go from a very slow crawl to progressively higher speeds! It's quite fast at the highest speed setting. Tracks those bends quite well too on the standard curve tracks, with the flexible tracks you will have to brace them otherwise you are going to get a train crash! rclxub.gif

Power consumption wise it is pretty good. I use Sanyo Eneloop rechargables on my set and they last very long. I don't use regular single use batteries anymore for the sake of our environment so I wouldn't know how those performs...
7936 stopped production in end 2011 or early 2012, I also wanted to buy more but can't get anymore at a reasonable price. It used to be the cheapest way to get straight tracks. Lucky I bought some before the prices soared...

I think 7937 will go EOL this year so better grab soon.  wink.gif

Wow, now I'm starting to get hooked on trains esp. those with power functions. Would be nice to build and run a train with PF around any other modular/city/town/winter sets and wow family and friends when they visit esp. during festive seasons. thumbup.gif

... but need a large display table or if setup on the floor then wifey will nag! vmad.gif

Using rechargeable batteries is a good idea. I dislike those RC cars and hotwheel sets that consume batteries like mad. Makes the running costs higher than the set itself. mad.gif

icon_question.gif Folks, can you please hide all your train photos and videos in spoiler. That way I can continue to enjoy the non-trains part of this forum. Unless Lego releases a Friends train set someday, I may have to avoid the train-virus for now. sweat.gif

Ok, updated my blog. No MOC / modifications lately. Still waiting for parts.
Other stuff not reach KL yet
Lego 9398 - Motorized Rescue Helicopter

Nothing new in this, as per building instruction. The length and width is bigger than Unimog & Crawler, mainly due to the main-rotor. Height wise, lower. I did not put on any stickers ... yet.

I don't know about others, but my winch is very tight. Due to the grey-pin bush with friction below. The motor can't turn this, so I replaced with a 5.5 axle with stop. BTW, I use my own longer string. However, when I disengage the gear for winch, it is free fall when something is on the hook.

I may need to sacrifice some spare bush-pin and sand-down some of the friction on the pin. Or research more for other solutions.

I do not have the power-function motor set (8293), so I take the parts from other vehicles to try here:
- M-motor
- Battery box
- IR receiver
- Remote control
- 8-tooth gear
- 24 tooth gear with clutch (white)

All works fine, after the above fix for the winch. Here is the video with the winch, rear-cargo door, landing-wheels and rotor.

Something I note (before I do further research on internet), when the rotor rotates, it has momentum and when I stop the motor, the rotor will continue for a while. This can mean disaster for the gears, as the rotor forces the gear to rotate the motor. Hence, a smart design here for the safety mechanism, there is a gear on L-beam which can roll up to prevent gears grinding.

Also, this means the motor can only rotate the rotors in one single-direction. If switch the other direction, the gears will rotate freely. Which is what a helicopter rotor should be, rotate in one direction for lift. Below is the video of how it works.

All in all, the helicopter is quite complete. There is a stick to adjust the rotor pitch.
One thing missing though, is the tilt (front and back) for the chopper to move forward/backward, in real life.

nice! Will watch the video when I get home
wow 1 meter long! Still thinking whether to get this set, seems like 1 of the good Technic sets released last year

I did some quick math.... you need to spend rm6500 at Parkson to get enough points to redeem for this RM100+ set. Even if during BL members day you still need to spend ard RM1400. Not worth it unless you have a lot of points like Tuan Alby. notworthy.gif
