i am planning to buy a laptop with price range around 2k.
currently choosing between lenovo g400s and z400
both look quite the same spec
can i know which is better?
i am confused with the true spec though, lenovo g400s comes with gt720m or 740m?
gt 740m is a lot better than gt720 rite?
*
Lenovo
G400s, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1799, 4GB, 500GB, W8
G400s, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1899, 4GB, 1TB, W8

Dell
Inspiron 14-3421, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT625M@RM1699[1.99kg], W8, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell

prices are RSP and negotiable. use the remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years. icon_rolleyes.gif

tky0414
G400S actually comes with GT720M. GT740M within that price is too fishy, and its actually a typo. and yes, GT740M is better than GT720M.

best notebook/laptop
Budget: within rm2600
Area: Komtar, penang
brand: any
usage: rendering 3D, programming, calculation (matlab&shits), gaming @ least metro: last light is playable.
time : next week
I'll treat it like a PC. So, good airflow is mandatory.

p/s: is it possible to get y400 with i5 + gt 650m/750m SLI under rm3k around komtar, penang?
*
possible but you have to choose freeDOS version of Y400. for seller in penang, you can contact hikari85 about it.
according to your requirements, Y400 is the best deal.

QUOTE(RoloTomasi @ Jun 15 2013, 12:49 AM)
I went to lowyat to buy y500 (non sli gt750 around 2.8k)

after being brainwash by msi salesman, i'm lookin at

1. GE40 (i don't like 14" screen but i travel a lot)
2. GE60 with 128 ssd (most probably going to buy ssd if choose other model)
3. GE70 (feel worth to spend that much for 17". i'm 40, already rabun dekat)

or just buy y500? i always play game at min setting. i care my fps than aesthetic. 1k different. i dun want regret after buy and thinking what if i spend bit more or why not i buy cheaper and spend more on peripherals.

pls help me.. can't sleep.

p/s another thing turns me off with y500 is swap thingy. i swear i'll break stuff.
p/s/s i've post on this thread a year ago. should i wait another year?
p/s/s/s maybe i should not buy all the above. buy iphone & ipad. just play candy rush
*
do you mean the ultrabay on Y500? if you are not gaming enthusiast and dont want to swap in external graphics for better gaming, you can just let it be. Lenovo Y500 is the most worth to spend on than other laptops that suggested. if lets say you wanted to keep waiting, next year perhaps it will be new architecture will be released, that is broadwell (which i am currently waiting for it to buy a laptop). but point here is, buying gadgets doesnt follow trends.

so to conclude, i could say Y500 is the best deal among all. play candy rush, wont be bored if played for so long? icon_rolleyes.gif

2.  Below  2000

nothing is wrong with acer. just some immature peoples think that branding is part of the quality build, which is irrelevant in quality control. they dont even think that buying electronic items are not 100% guaranteed working perfectly. for more details, you may read sifu [PF]T.J. blog about notebook brandings. for your options :

ASUS

Hi, All Sifus.
Would like to seek for your advice on below two model of laptop.

1. Acer S7-391-53314G1 13
2. Lenovo IdeaPad®Yoga 13

Would like to know which one is better for its performance, battery life and features.

Thank you. smile.gif
*
actually both shares roughly the same specs, except the screen resolution and hinge design. the acer uses normal hinge with full HD touch screen, and the Yoga 13 uses a 360 degree flippable screen and 1600x900 HD IPS touch screen.

for performance, both shares about the same. battery life under balanced mode with powermark test, Acer S7 achieves 2 hours and 30 minutes, Yoga 13 is 3 hours and 35 minutes. for features, Yoga 13 has more features compared to Acer S7, due to Yoga 13 ability to convert into tablet mode (thanks to the 360 degree flippable hinge).

i am attracted to RS-15 due to its cheaper budget and improved audio system. for the MSI, the GT60 is just only the excellent audio and steelseries keyboard. but main priority is the audio system only, so i'd select what is cheaper.

among all the picks, i will select lenovo Y500 as the best choice among. for the ASUS you found, it is true because the whole chassis is made of aluminium. Y500 just have less warmer temperature on the palm rest than N56VB.

Thanks for the quick respond  rclxms.gif

Few more questions:

1) How significant different the ASUS N56VB GT750M 4GB DDR3 vs. LENOVO Y500 GT750M 2GB DDR5 in term of performance and long lasting? hmm.gif

2) Any additional cons about Lenovo Y500 besides it's weight and battery life span before I get my hand on it? icon_question.gif

3) Lastly, wonder what's the acceptable price range for these two model in Sabah area if you do not mind post here? I heard the cost could be 5-10% of the retailed price depend on individual shops selling. (else could you pm me the price list?)

Once again thank you very much!

thumbup.gif
*
1. the ASUS N56VB is actually GT740M, not GT750M.

2. Y500 uses glossy screen, which is prone to smudges and fingerprints. even the keyboard case is covered with glossy panel. also, it heats up easily if poor ventilation is given.

3. i dont know about pricing at sabah. but the most acceptable pricing is RM2999, which is the retail sale price offered by Lenovo.

Looking for a laptop for office use.  Looking for the slimmest/most portable 15.6" model.

Yes, it's a weird requirement, but it will be used for Finance purposes, so the screen size needs to accommodate large spreadsheets, but just trying to find the least bulky/heavy 15.6" model available.

Thanks!
*
normally 15.6" dont have the slimmest profile but they some have ultrabook sized ones. but maybe you can consider these :

Acer
V5-571G-53314G50, i5-3317U + Nvidia GT620M@RM2199[2.3kg], 4GB, 500GB, W7HP

Hello, I'll be starting college soon and I need recommendations for a laptop.

1. Preferred Brand
Any brand that is suitable.

2. Budget
RM1200-RM1500

3. Usage
- Assignments; I will be using Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
- Surfing the Internet.
- I download songs, movies and TV shows occasionally. Not that often.
- No gaming.

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
14 inch.

I would be great if it's light so that it will be easy to carry around. But that is not high on the priority list.
I'd be great too if the battery lasts long and it doesn't heat up easily. But I'll make do with anything as long as it fits my budget and usage. smile.gif
*
best to fit in your budget range :

Dell Inspiron 14-3421, i3-3217U + Intel HD4000@RM1399[1.99kg], Win8SL, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 4-cell

Hi long time never buy laptop, need some recommendations

Brand: Any as long as warranty is not a pain
Price: 2.5k max (preferably around 2k)
Usage: Adobe CS6 photoshop, illustrator etc. + light gaming
Screen size: Not important but i guess since display card is necessary usually 14in+ right?

Thanks in advanced
*
if you dont warranty to cause you pain in the ass, you can look at these options :

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT730M@RM2099[2.33kg], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), Linux; W8SL@RM2299
Inspiron 15, i5-3337U + AMD HD7670M@RM1799[2.25kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell, Linux; W8SL@RM1949

Lenovo
Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty; colors: chocolate
Z500, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2299[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 years warranty

prices are RSP and negotiable. display card is necessary in 14" plus? not necessary, as the integrated graphics nowadays are pretty good to support normal usage like watching videos and normal web surfing but graphics card is necessary for gaming performance and graphical processing works.

the laptops above are enough for your 'data crunching' usage. spending too much on something that you dont use a lot is a waste. and use the remaining budget to upgrade RAM to 8GB and extend warranty to 3 years for piece of mind. prices are RSP and negotiable. icon_rolleyes.gif
