ty the z400 and g400s any heat issue or anything ?
*
heat issue in Z400 is a small problem. if compared, the Z400 will be hotter, due to thinner chassis and lighter design. but no worries, it never spike up to 85C. smile.gif

*
small issue for the Z400. G400S is still unknown at the moment.

Z500 does have touch screen.
Z500T, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M + (1366x768, touch)@RM2499[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 years warranty

my advice is dont get touch screen, its just a gimmick when buying a laptop with windows 8. icon_rolleyes.gif

1. Preferred Brand : None
2. Budget : Prefer below 2k, but can go up to 2.5k
3. Usage: Moderate gaming and document display. Need to game moderately (Dota 2, some 2010-2012 3d games) at acceptable resolution (eye-candy optional) and display approximately A4 size documents on screen comfortably (chord charts/sheet music for band playing).
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14-15"

Additional info: contemplating getting a MS Surface tablet too, if it works...
*
your budget only allow you to get the Surface RT only. Surface Pro is RM2749 and RM3049 for 64GB and 128GB respectively.
anyway, your lappy options :

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT730M@RM2099[2.33kg], 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), Linux; W8SL@RM2299

Lenovo
Z400, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB, W8; 2 years warranty; colors: chocolate
G400s, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM1899, 4GB, 1TB, W8
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT750M@RM2499, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS, 120wPSU, swappable ODD, 2 years warranty

prices are RSP and negotiable. icon_rolleyes.gif

Need help sifu,

1. Preferred Brand : None
2. Budget : RM2500 +-RM100
3. Usage: Gaming, touch screen
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15"

i need help on buying a new laptop. I'm currently leaning towards ASUS S550CB/S550CM or DELL INSPIRON 15R.

Are they overpriced/overated? And do you guys have any other suggestion?
*
i personally dont suggest you to get touch screen if you are just into gaming as its too gimmicky for gamers. for the laptop you listed, the best definitely will be Dell Inspiron 15R. however, there is another suggested model than this :

Lenovo Z500, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2299[2.2kg], 4GB, 1TB, backlit, W8; 2 years warranty

price is RSP and negotiable.

Thanks! Just out of curiosity, the surface Pro can play dota 2?
*
as long it is not high settings. surface pro can handle far cry 2 under 1024x768 resolution with low settings.

please dont hesitate to ask if there is still any questions.

That's interesting. I might save up a little more to get a real convertible computer instead. I really prefer the tablet form factor because I can use it in portrait orientation.
*
Acer R7 is another larger and cheaper tablet form factor laptop. comes with core i5 ULV, 8GB, 1TB, 15.6" full HD IPS panel and the Ezel hinge, which allows you to convert your laptop into many modes.

Nice,my staff is telling me the same, but the internal hdd is a ssd? and also am i required to purchase an external dvd rw or does it comes together?

As for the os its using ubuntu but i have win8 business eddition so i can upgrade it my self, then theres this thing, does the laptop has touch screen as my staff is telling its more suitable for win8. smile.gif
*
no it isnt a SSD. its a normal HDD with another mSATA SSD for caching purposes. your staff gave you the wrong info. and yes, you do need to purchase an external dvd-rw if you want as it doesnt comes with the box. nowadays, we less talking about cd players as we are moving into net generation.

the laptop doesnt have touch screen. but the only useful touch feature is on the new start interface only. you can still bump back to the old desktop mode if you dont like to use the new start.

I see that Lenovo gets recommended a lot for budget laptops. Is there a particular reason that they are so cheap?

competitive and reasonable price. you pay for cheaper but with better specs and better build quality.

i see, then i need to find win7 then,im still using a dvd-rw because theres still some old data locked in dvds, need some time to unlock those discs and transfer the data to a portable hdd..

as for the laptop any suggestions on where to order it? i prefer a good after sales service outlet
*
i saw that thundermatch only has the vostro 5460. overall, thundermatch after sales service is good, but you also can claim directly from dell, as dell is offering on-site warranty, which saves up your time from sending it back to shops or retail outlets.

as sifu nexus said, order online is better. their online chat service is online now, so get a chat with representative. smile.gif
