Preferred Brand : Asus, Lenovo(Z series)
Budget: 2 - 2.3k
Usage : Surf web, Watch Movie, Gaming (Call Of duty)
Screen size: 14''
Note:
1.Preferably laptop that can last for 4years or longer.
2.Touchscreen is not necessary
3.No touchpad and keyboard problem
*
Whether a notebook lasts long or not depends very much on how you take care of your notebook, and a little bit of luck.
Looks like you already know what you can choose, either an Asus A45VS or a Lenovo Z400

To sifus here,

I need to buy a new laptop to be used in Ireland for the next three years. This laptop will be used by university student.

Laptop spec is listed below:
- i5 CPU
- 14” screen
- 500GB hard disk
- 4 GB RAM
- DVD writer
- 3 years international warranty (Ireland)
- Not a gamer
- Mainly for study, maybe some music and movies
- Microsoft Office
- Windows 7 or 8
- Budget around RM2500 (max)

Please recommend the Brand and Model.

Willing to pay extra for the warranty in Ireland.

Is it better to buy the laptop in Malaysia and bring over to Ireland or buy the laptop in Ireland?

1. Preferred Brand
2. Budget
3. Usage
4. Preferred laptop/screen size

The E1-1200 has been around for some time already, and there are newer and potentially better picks~

Both are 3rd generation Ivy Bridge processors. The i5-3210M is a normal mobile processor whereas the i5-3337U is a mobile Ultra low voltage (ULV) processor. The latter is designed to enable lower power consumption at the expense of performance nod.gif
Still, if you are only using your notebook for normal tasks i.e. web surfing, watching videos etc., the ULV processor would be good enough~

Err... you might need to up your budget to Rm1.5k for a notebook capable of gaming? hmm.gif
Or perhaps you could wait for more Haswell-powered notebooks which are just around the corner. The new and more powerful integrated graphic card packs a lot more punch than what we have now at the moment nod.gif

I think it will be better to buy it over there, less hassle, especially when warranty is involved laugh.gif

These perhaps? Not really a lot of options unfortunately for 13 inchers:
13"
Asus
S300CA-C1033H, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + (1366x768;touch)@RM2399, 4GB, 500GB, W8
U38DT-R3033H, A8-4555M + AMD HD7600G@RM2199, 2GB, 500GB, W8

Samsung
NP535U3C-A01, A6-4455M + AMD HD7500G@RM1899, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8
NP530U3C, i3-2377M + Intel HD3000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB HDD@RM2299, 4GB, W7HB

If you can up your budget a bit the Asus S300 would be the better pick nod.gif
Otherwise you might want to consider 14" ultrabooks instead, the size is more universal, thus cheaper icon_rolleyes.gif

Hello, i'd like some help from the experts about my future laptop nod.gif

Preferred Brand
Any

Budget
RM 2.5k (+100)

Usage
College use, assignments, web-surfing and the occasional gaming (ac3, tomb raider 2013)

Preferred screen size
14 inch

I've gotten my eyes on the Dell Inspiron 14R which has a gt730m card while the lenovo z400 has a gt740 card, my questions are,

1. Is there any significant difference between the two graphic cards?
2. Should I go with the Dell or the lenovo?
3. Or should I just get the lenovo y400? (though i am afraid of the heat issues) tongue.gif

Your help is greatly appreciated notworthy.gif

1. GT740M is significantly better than GT730M, especially if you are interested in gaming
2. Both should be good if you opt for the on-site warranty support (which costs more money, of course)
3. Since you are into gaming, Y400 would be the better pick even though its more expensive nod.gif

Any more choices for 14"? I remember Asus S300 costed RM1899, why it is so expensive d? Is the new Haswell processor coming in any brand laptop soon? Wonder if I should wait for Haswell.
