I went to lowyat to buy y500 (non sli gt750 around 2.8k)

after being brainwash by msi salesman, i'm lookin at

1. GE40 (i don't like 14" screen but i travel a lot)
2. GE60 with 128 ssd (most probably going to buy ssd if choose other model)
3. GE70 (feel worth to spend that much for 17". i'm 40, already rabun dekat)

or just buy y500? i always play game at min setting. i care my fps than aesthetic. 1k different. i dun want regret after buy and thinking what if i spend bit more or why not i buy cheaper and spend more on peripherals.

pls help me.. can't sleep.

p/s another thing turns me off with y500 is swap thingy. i swear i'll break stuff.
p/s/s i've post on this thread a year ago. should i wait another year?
p/s/s/s maybe i should not buy all the above. buy iphone & ipad. just play candy rush

i am planning to buy a laptop with price range around 2k.
currently choosing between lenovo g400s and z400
both look quite the same spec
can i know which is better?
i am confused with the true spec though, lenovo g400s comes with gt720m or 740m?
gt 740m is a lot better than gt720 rite?
*
Lenovo
G400s, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1799, 4GB, 500GB, W8
G400s, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1899, 4GB, 1TB, W8

Dell
Inspiron 14-3421, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT625M@RM1699[1.99kg], W8, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell

prices are RSP and negotiable. use the remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years. icon_rolleyes.gif

tky0414
G400S actually comes with GT720M. GT740M within that price is too fishy, and its actually a typo. and yes, GT740M is better than GT720M.

best notebook/laptop
Budget: within rm2600
Area: Komtar, penang
brand: any
usage: rendering 3D, programming, calculation (matlab&shits), gaming @ least metro: last light is playable.
time : next week
I'll treat it like a PC. So, good airflow is mandatory.

p/s: is it possible to get y400 with i5 + gt 650m/750m SLI under rm3k around komtar, penang?
*
possible but you have to choose freeDOS version of Y400. for seller in penang, you can contact hikari85 about it.
according to your requirements, Y400 is the best deal.

do you mean the ultrabay on Y500? if you are not gaming enthusiast and dont want to swap in external graphics for better gaming, you can just let it be. Lenovo Y500 is the most worth to spend on than other laptops that suggested. if lets say you wanted to keep waiting, next year perhaps it will be new architecture will be released, that is broadwell (which i am currently waiting for it to buy a laptop). but point here is, buying gadgets doesnt follow trends.

so to conclude, i could say Y500 is the best deal among all. play candy rush, wont be bored if played for so long? icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi , I'm kinda new to computer stuff, so i really need suggestions from you guys...

My budget is = 2000 - 2500
Brand = I'm not good at it, but I know most people prefer ASUS i guess? Toshiba?
Purpose = Nothing in specific, I need it for gaming, work, movies ... it has to be working flawlessly in multitasking...the graphic has to be high as I wanna play NBA, shooting, racing games that need high graphic.
Screen size = Multitouch touchpad with gesture control. Screen 16" to 19"

I prefer aluminium body, good protability...touchscreen (optional).

A friend of mine suggested me to get a ASUS S500, i was told that the price is around rm2500.

Hey guise, any idea/recommendation for this ? Im buyin a notebook as a Bday prsent, req as below:

Priority is going to be its Design (I know its prty subjective but just not too bulky, plain and simple design will do), and hv to hv White unit available.
Screen size 14", need to hv internal dvd-rom so most ultrabook is out. Spec wise dnt matter much cus it's just for browsing/movie/light gaming. Budget around 1500+-.

Put it simple:
-White color unit
-Budget 1500+-
-Spec good enough for browsing/movie will do
-Internal DVD-rom
-14" screen
-Brand dsnt matter

So far only got a target, 4gt which model but its a Samsung. Just looking for more recommendation before making a decision.

Thanks a lot ! notworthy.gif

Need some advise. Get the Y410 for rm2899 or Y500 for rm2999? I want to get a laptop with Haswell processor but the salesman told me the battery life is not that much of a difference and I should just add rm100 and get the Y500 and I get a better FHD screen as well.

Unless you are buying in a hurry, you might want to wait and see what the Y510 has to offer? hmm.gif
Otherwise its just a matter of portability and screen size. If you travel alot, then go for the 14 incher~

I'm really close to buying the Y500 until I read the comments in the Lenovo official page at the review and comments. More than 10 people is complaining about the trackpad and the trackpad is not functioning well. Any comments from Y500 current owners to clarify on this?

Hi all,

I'm looking for a decent laptop for my girlfriend. She prefers the laptop to be light, sturdy and thin. Budget below RM2000.
I was thinking about the dell lineups, it has quite decent built quality and most important thing is a technician would be there to help her during warranty (long distance relationship, being a geek is useless also).

I haven't survey the laptop segment for some time, how is dell doing? They still send their technician to house for free during warranty?
The criterion are:
1. Must be reliable and sturdy.
2. Light weight
3. Thin
4. Pretty is a plus (pink? wub.gif ) / 6 cell if can.

Any recommendations?

Thanks guys.

Yup, Dell is a great choice, and yes, they are still offering on-site warranty services (provided you are still covered, of course laugh.gif)
There are only a few notebooks to look for brows.gif
If omitting the 6-cell requirement
14"
Dell
Vostro 5460, i3-3120M + HD 4000@RM1,549[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04, 3 cell; W8SL@RM1,749
Vostro 5460, i3-3120M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1949[1.54kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8SL, 3 cell

6-cell options:
14"
Dell Inspiron 14-3421, i5-3337U + Nvidia GT625M@RM1649[1.99kg], Ubuntu, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), 6-cell; W8SL@RM1899

*Price in RRP, can still negotiate with Dell online sales agents icon_rolleyes.gif
* I would recommend going for the RM1749 variant of the Vostro 5460 (its much lighter and better looking although battery life will be short; I think it does come in red as well, but better to confirm with Dell about this). Use remaining budget (~RM250) to extend warranty up to 3 years on-site.

If you look hard enough, you will notice every single notebook will have minor problems like this. imho its not really too much of an issue if you are using mouse all the time, its a 15 incher anyway haha laugh.gif
But if you are really keen on the Y500 and uses the trackpad alot then perhaps you might want to wait and see how the upcoming Y510 will fare
