Like I said earlier, the online application form (Groupon promo)  doesnt have an option to tick GOLD or PLAT. There is only 1 option which is PLAT. I wonder if I can manually draw a box and write GOLD next to it.  tongue.gif  tongue.gif

for hlb wise, they won't allow anyone to apply for a gold card if one is qualified for a platinum. it's just like you can't buy low-cost housing if you are overqualified for it.

No. I didnt get any. Not sure if it is related to my credit rating but other banks approved my cards easily.
*
maybe you already have too many credit cards and loans attached to your name?

I just realised that if we spend RM50 above on other categories that are not chosen without our 2 categories, then we're actually getting nothing from those RM50s expenditures =[ So, we have to maximise the chosen categories' spend if we don't want to have to pay more on others in order to meet the 10 swipes.

One question, hope someone can confirm for me. If I were to pay for purchases made in places like optometrist shops for sunglasses...it is basically useless since that place doesn't fall under any category, correct? If yes, then I see why I need another card that will help to cover expenses that are not within mainstream areas.
*
if you spend rm50 on other categories (besides your chosen 2 categories), you will not earn the 10% cash back for it, but it will be counted and help you to achieve the min monthly rm50 x 10 transactions.

for all transactions outside the categories like optometrist/car service/insurance/education/etc, just use other cc like aeon watami 3% or ocbc titanium 1% or hlb essential 1% or etc. of course mbb2amex 5% on weekends too if amex is acceptable there.

The customer service sucks...one guy told me giant is under groceries, another guy told me its under departmental. So if i buy tv from tesco , is it considered groceries??
*
if not mistaken, giant and tesco are always under groceries.

Hi..thanks for your rreply. The thing is tesco has a separate counter to pay for electrical items, so i am worried the bank doesn't count it as grocery..sigh
*
we only worry about the separate counters of aeon because it may be departmental or groceries.
but tesco, giant, and aeon big are always groceries (if not mistaken).

Guys, I called HLB customer service and asked about buying a phone from Maxis center.

According to the CS guy, it will be categorized under "Mobile". However, the transaction will not entitle me for 10% cashback, because it is clearly stated that cashback for mobile is only for BILL PAYMENTS.

I asked him, how does he know whether I'm buying a phone or paying a bill under Maxis? Will it show up in the statement what I used the card for?

He said YES, they can see whether the transaction is for bills/buying phone.

Is this true or what??

QUOTE(aeiou228 @ Jan 14 2014, 07:40 PM)
The CS may be able to see with his human eyes, but can the system detect it ?
*
unless maxis centre has separate cc terminal for bills and buying phone.
otherwise i don't think it can be traced.

to hit the rm50k allocation means 1k people maximise rm50 rebate each with >rm500 spending on the first minute? if that happens later gomen will think recent price increase has no effect on malaysian. LOL!
