There is no CGPA for Australian education, CGPA is only for American education.

I believe that scholarships for taught masters are difficult to come by. You'll most probably pay for your own education.

Loans....not the best thing if you end up with high debts. Imagine taking a loan in your late twenties, when will you pay it off, How about marriage? house? car?

Don't forget that some postgrad programs require you to have work experience. WHat makes you think that you can work in australia just like that? Even if you can, 2 years worth of salary is nothing when you consider the high cost of living in Australia.

I don't think you realise the gravity of the situation here.........

feynman is right. its easier said than done. how much could a fresh graduate like you earn in australia? after deducting the living cost, transportation costs, etc... there's not much left. and i dont think that 2 years can pay u off your loans..

1) Where do you get your Bachelor degree?? Locally? Private U or Public U??

2) Is your degree recognised by Australia to begin with??

3) Is it must be Australia or it can be any oversea countries like Singapore, UK, USA, New Zealand??

4) What kind of Master degree?? Business aka MBA or Engineering??

5) How smart are you?? There are some universities in USA that if you are smart enough to get in, the universities are rich enough to give you scholarship plus a teaching assistant job to go with. But, you will be competing with smart students around the world for those kind of admission.

6) Do you have relative oversea that are willing to sponsor you to a certain degree like a place to stay??

7) Why do you want to get a Master degree??

If you plan to study a taught masters course.. you should try working for a few years first.

The trend nowadays is for people to give out taught masters scholarships for people who have proven themselves in the workforce. Coz taught masters is usually meant for career advancement, and they dun wanna waste money on fresh grads who have not shown themselves to be capable in the workplace.

Wrong answer!!! If you want to have better income, you could have done something now before you are graduated.

1) Go into networking

MCSE, CCNA, CCNP

2) Get into system adminstration

Learn Unix/Linux

3) Learn Database

Oracle, SQL Server and so on..

4) Learn SAP

What is stopping you now???

To speak frankly, obtaining a masters will only increase your wage by a few hundred ringgits since almost everybody has masters. Unless of course you have postgrad degree(research) from popular and hard to get in schools, you might have the option to be slightly demanding and in harsher tone, arrogant.

No offense, you must have at least RM110k(fees alone) to go to a popular Australian university. And do you think you can pay off RM110k before thinking of marriage and all?I seriously doubt it, just look at the average income of people working in KL.

You still need to worry abour the fees....which may come up to at least RM 100k for two years.

Even if you live with your relatives, I don't think it will be free.

Sometimes you have to face it that you might not get everything you want in life. You have to make choices that may bring good or bad to yourself, so think carefully.

Since you are from MMU, let me tell you a little story. There are 2 guys, A and B which came from MMU and took a degree in IT. After graduate both went seperate ways.

Guy A did what a lot of people did, got a job after graduation and earn a normal living. Now, guy A have almost finish paying his car and is buying a house now. Earning around 5-6k.

Guy B went on to Melbourne University in Aussie on parent's account after MMU (CGPA>3.8). Fees costs around ~10-15k AUD for the 1 year Masters course. Guy B graduated a year later and had to wait a few months to get a PR. After bumming around some part time jobs, Guy B did get a good IT job earning 2-3k AUD. However, cost of living was high, and Guy B didn't get a chance to save a lot. Guy B plans to come back after making more money but as time goes on, Guy B decided to settle down in Aussie instead.

Guy C went to Aussie on parent's account. After graduation, could not secure any job. After 6 months, all Guy C's money and his parents money dried out. In the end, Guy C came back broke and made his whole family suffer a lot of monetary loss.

You could be either guys. However, if you do not have financial backing from family or yourself, it is very risky to do so. It's not easy to get a scholarship, especially if you are not the cream of the crop. If you get a bank loan, interest is high and you need gurantors or collateral. What if you can't get a job in Aussie? How long can you live on your scholarship money (if you do manage to get one) in Aussie?

I'm not trying to pour cold water, but please think carefully before you make any decision. If you do manage to secure a way to go, do share it with everyone.

It is at least AUD 20k on tuition fees alone at the University of Melbourne.

To get a PR, you need to have points and $. As you already know, the australian government is reviewing the whole system which means tougher conditions and all.

I say it's too soon to plan to do a masters when u still have 2 years to go. I say give yourself another 1.5 years to see if u still wanna continue studying or not. Concentrate on getting your degree first wink.gif

Masters need not be done overseas. MMU do offer masters as well and it might be easier to get financial help from them rather than an overseas uni.

But please be aware that a Postgrad qualification do not bring a lot of weight here in M'sia. If u're planning to work here, do not expect a big or any difference in salary. So don't expect too much. But do it if u have the interest in research and would like to learn more just for the sake of learning smile.gif

I do agree with some lyner here, work 1st at least a year or two before considering master, it will be better for urself.

Here is some info from my personal experience.

Basically there are 2 types of Master. Coursework vs Research.

For coursework,
U can enter if u have the $ to enter, or you could apply for scholarship, be it Uni based scholarship or Nationwide scholarship. Its just like applying a degree, as long as you passed your degree, u'll get into coursework master (generally, but not alwaz the case depending on course as well). Just fill in the form from the Uni u wish to apply for during any education fair etc.

For research,
Either u have a 1st class honours or 2nd upper with working experience. Even before u apply, u need to contact ur pontential respective school, for your case IT, talk to any professor, and suggest an idea, prepare your proposal. If any professor wish to take you as thier student, then u write in to apply using certain form, with the recommendation from the professor. For aussie (Applies for 1st class only), there is one scholarship, called Internationa Postgrad Research Scholarship (IPRS), u can apply for that, but it will be hard as u will be competing with students around the world, those top class student. Approx 300 scholarship will be offered to all Unis in aussie, ending up one unis can give only approx 3 to 7 scholarship A YEAR.

FYI, IT related Research by Master is about AUD20k++ a year for tuition fees only.
