Yes, get a MDSC0039 to combine together with SP9201DAF... this combination able to protect 1set PC equipment, modem and analog telephone...

about the grounding of MDSC0039, u can connect the green wire of SP9201DAF to MDSC0039's earth connector, so SP9201DAF able to do surge isolate...
*
Can i COD a MDSC0039? How can i get it from u?

i had already got a recycled unit for RM25 just last month. Now its out again....realli thinking if its too sensitive just to make us pay more.

did u ground the green cable to earth pin? otherwise the isolated surge no where to go, retain in SP9201DAF and self-destruct to ensure equipment in safe condition...

FYI, SP9201DAF replacement cost should only RM15... may i know where u do the replacement?

if u follow my recommendation to use SF9812DSL to protect ur PC setup, the replacement cost just Rm10 to replace a small cube module which inside the SF9812DSL...

if u only used SP9201DAF to protect tel line but power line not protected, pls take the risk that the surge may come from power line anytime and destruct ur PC setup although SP9201DAF still working...

so far i only receive 2 complain from my customer...
a customer used IT pack, equipments burnt... problem due to wrong installation and caused back surge after investigate by cal-lab staffs...
a customer not following my recommendation to protect his modem and PC, bcos insist want to cut cost...

hence, most the customers who followed my recommendation not complain to me, at least i ensure their equipments in safe condition... maybe have small numbers of unhappy customer but i dont know who they r...

The SP9201DAF protected my equipment, notin damaged...but this is my third one in like 4 months since i last got it...

The total cost would be 43 + 25 + 25 = RM93....thinkin maybe i would be better off getting a belkin....at least that is lifetime warranty....

I got my replacement at Centrepoint DIY. The grounding was also done properly...the SP9201DAF just seems abit too fragile in my opinion....

CLLI or CAL-LAB Lightning Isolators are designed to self-sacrifice so that user and equipment can be safe from lightning! If there was no surge, CLLI would not be damaged! We have nearly 1,000,000 CLLI in use at the homes and offices. Sometimes, during dry season, we get less than 10 units a week for LLSWA service. BUT, during rainy seasons, we get 30 to 80 a week. All damaged decause of lightning or power surges and none at all due to manufacturing defect!

Is SP9201-DAF too sensitive? Not at all. Only powerful surges would cause it to be damaged. Other times, it simply resets at DSL side but Analog side may need manual reset sometimes. (Please note that the DSL side cannot protect analog devices such as dial-up modems or FAX or cordless-phone!)

Your customer has 2-issues. We have 3 explanations:
1. The first issue is beyond our control when lightning surges arrive or not arrive so often. It is definitely not because our CLLI is too sensitive. We actually wish we do not have to carry out any aftersales restoration, because it is often a SUBSIDIZED service. When middle-man over charge or make a few bucks, we normally do not make any money from LLSWA!
2. We advise customers to check from our website to know what to pay and how much to pay. We have no control over how much others charge.
3. CLLI creates SAFE-islands while others do not. How to create SAFE-island if CLLI do not self-sacrifice? Your customers have to choose whether to use ISOLATION-TECHNOLOGY OR ORDINARY TECHNOLOGY. They cannot have it both ways!

If your customer was only using it for DSL, only very powerful strikes will damage it.
Chances are his place is very prone to powerful strikes!

I think you should visit Cal-Lab KL-PJ Centrepoint Showroom at the address below: (to see what they could do to help)

CAL-LAB MARKETING SDN BHD
S2 (2nd Floor) CentrePoint, Bandar Utama
47800 Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia.
Monday-Friday: 10am to 6pm; Saturday: by appointment

I've been there before, it is located on the 2nd floor, take lift no #1 ( next to Black Canyon Coffee ), You can also call them at 03-772 68680.

I've been told by Cal-Lab that they are using a new technology called the "Isolators" technology where the unit is made to self sacrifice ( which is why your unit always damage whenever there is a lightning surge ), this technology could only be used by Cal-Lab legally because Cal-Lab had been formed by the inventor of this technology itself.

As for other company, they are using Lightning Arrestor technology ( which is about 50 yrs technology ). The Lightning Arrestor will try to arrest the lightning surge but as everyone would have known, there is no way you could arrest the full force of lightning surge.

You could read THIS ARTICLE for more info.

In regards to Belkin, I suggest you to take a look at the links provided by gkl85 for further consideration.

The replacement cost will be RM25, Rm15 & RM10 but depending on Recommended Retail Price

more than RRP RM50 : replacement cost RM25
between RRP RM30 - RM50 : replacement cost RM15
below RRP RM30 : replacement cost RM10

u can approach cal-lab showroom when next saturday (1st & 3rd week of saturday close)

before u going there pls call cal-lab office 77268680 to do appointment, they will serve u on the right time without waisting ur precious time, if u come on the right time may meet the cal-lab's founder & inventor face by face. smile.gif

and they knew the DIY hardware shop overcharged u, they managing this issues now since the shop damanging cal-lab reputation sweat.gif that one of the reasons why we hardly to get cal-lab lightning isolator from other shops / hypermarket because of no commitment, they can cheat cal-lab shakehead.gif

if u worry the sensitivity level of SP9201DAF, perhaps u can try to do replacement for SP9201D (digital version) which have less sensitivity than SP9201DAF/SP9201DSL, but it able to support up to 512 streamyx (hopefully u using this package). maybe u can request do testing for the speed difference between SP9201DAF and SP9201D by using this http://www.speedtest.net/ on the spot. hence if SP9201D dead, the replacement cost will be RM10 smile.gif

actually SF9812DSL is the best bang for u if ur house area a lot of strong surge, the replacement cost will be RM10 to replace SKPX DSL (RRP RM20) inside SF9812DSL and can purchase another SKPX DSL for spare module purpose smile.gif hence, if u want to use the SF9812DSL for analog telephone or fax machine, what u need to purchase is another version (digital version and auto reset version) of SKPX which cost u RM20 only, 1 unit can do different purpose and for particular by changing module. nod.gif

bear in mind, i think ur power line not protected, is it? the surge may come from power line anytime also to strike ur PC although rare to happen. if someone stealing the TNB copper power line, the voltage may increase from 230v up to 400v (u can read the news from newspaper or TV) and ur PC will burnt as well, in addition cal-lab still protect ur equipment for such condition.

actually based on my experience, my 1st unit of cal-lab SF9512DSL burnt after used 1 month+, because i using it during thunderstorm tongue.gif once lightning strike, power trip, but cal-lab immediately burnt on the spot, i deserve it but PC still working fine after restore the power. so i replaced another units, and try not to online when raining if can and unplug telephone line when not using internet (why need the protection while not using computer?) to avoid replacement cost (not extra money to burn sweat.gif ), the 2nd units serving me more than 1 years. tried to BT 24/7 for few days last week, cal-lab still working (maybe i lucky). now, my 3 years old poor rig still working condition under cal-lab protection, dont have any hardwares damaged after i bought it from lowyat plaza smile.gif in addition i adding more and more hardwares into it, stressing it and no issues found... nod.gif

gkl83,about the replacement for damaged unit la...
above RM49 = RM25
around RM29~RM49 = RM15
below RM29 = RM10

So the replacement for SP9201-DAF and SP9201-DSL/AR/D was RM15 smile.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

yes... it can be done... cal-lab can compatible with different brand of lightning protection, cal-lab will perform protection as well (if correct installation only)... in additional, more devices, more Ohm and caused slightly higher power consumption...
