Guys with Unifi 5mbps.

you got problems playing dota 2 ?

i mean everything is smooth but when my gf started loading videos in fb or youtube via iphone i get like 400-500 ms ping.

is it just me or everyone else ?

using wired connection btw

Your unifi port is 5mbps, when no people is consuming bandwidth, meaning you are the only one who using internet, it won't cause problem, but if a person joins the connection and starts loading videos/downloading stuffs, your 5mbps bandwidth is being distributed to your gf's iphone and causing internet congestion, thus increasing latency of your connection, in order to avoid this from happening, set QoS in your router so your dota can preserve certain amount of bandwidth which prevents latency from increasing when someone is using your connection.

Played dota 2 on my laptop no lag / spike.

I think the problem starts when streaming. ( Youtube, Stream movie, Tv series )

I am just using 1mb streamyx, can play lag free.

Roughly 50kb/s used during game.

how do you set QoS ?

I got no problem with sharing my network connection but sometimes it just lags me like crazy.

Most of the time is because of loading videos or loading bunch of photos in fb.

QoS is quality of service and it is readily available in your router, go to your router setup page, mostly 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 depending on your router setup, then find QoS setting and apply the ip and port, for more info you can try to find in lowyat network section. I believe someone had asked before in network section.

nvr faced that kind of prob before. almost everyday my sis youtubing while i was playing d2, still smooth like my ex's skin.

Even with VIP20 I experience this... Lagness and spike..

Back in Msia with Unifi (the 90bucks one), I get 10-20ms. Missed those times

even my hometown 512kbps smoother than unifi vip5. not sure why, the ping is more stable and wont fluctuate much.

Anyone facing severe spike while playing D2 with VIP5 recently? Only connected to my laptop via UTP but when I load youtube in the background I can't move at all. = =

what type of model? im afraid it will not compatible with unifi

I got that router also. How do you set the best bandwidth control settings to get the lowest ping as possible in DOTA 2 ?

You just cap all the other line to 50% of your speed. Like if 5 Mbps cap others at 2.5 Mbps. This way they will be happy and you will be too

Just saw this thread. All these while i thought it only happens to me lol, everytime somebody at my house streaming video or even uploading picture my ping will fluctuate very much, from 30 ping to 400-500 which is unplayable at all.

no problem with me. dad streams youtube 24/7 + my sis maple and i'm able to play smoothly with good ping. (8~15ms)

check on your router/modem.. i'm using Asus RT-N12 though

im using 10mb, still lag on unifi. because everyone is streaming.

last time when im using 5mb, i dont have this problem.

i got the same problem as well. I just sign up VIP 5 package. I the ping checked in cmd.exe to dota2 network server in SG.

1. sgp-1.valve.net - SE Asia 1 (Singapore)
2. sgp-1.valve.net - SE Asia 2 (Singapore)

also check the ping in game, and the ping is OKAY.
Just dont understand why I still having constant SPIKE in game. Keep having those connection network (red words) on top of my right screen.

Is this something to do with the router/moderm or just unifi??

Previously using unifi stock dlink modem, i experience lagging and spiking even with single pc user for 10mbps, call unifi cs no help, and no matter how i switch to other wifi channel or set to 20mhz still the same, lastly i change the wifi router (asus brand) and problem solved.

seems like after the huge update , i always received packet loss

my connection is ok, but after 8pm, having 70ms with 20% packet loss. GG unifi

i notice my game server always with 250ms..its rarely to get 30~60ms which i think hosted in singapore, 250ms++ sure australia

And the packet loss remains :/

I think it's a server side issue perhaps? Previously I've been playing smooth like butter, but now I've been getting 10% packet losses on average, quite playable but sometimes the projectiles are delayed and that really ruins last hitting and playing heroes with high skill caps

Well it was server issue. Whenever TI competition u will see the packet loss is damm high. If u play like 8am till 2pm there is no packet loss. It seem their server cant handle so large people.

Im facing issue with packet loss for quite some time..around 5%-10%..already configure the QoS with the default L7-R-N2000 router, changed Wifi adapter, switched from Wifi to LAN connection. But the problem still remain the same.
The packet loss is usually occur during night time.

Is changing router to other brand would help? Any of here facing the same issue?

iirc , the dota 2 sea server always have problem with unifi.. ( i read it somewhere) not sure why and what the fix though

i also lag, unifi 10mbps last hit no get gold sometime.

Yah, those auto attacks and spells animations are not visible (example: mirana arrow, puck illusion orb, etc), and this causing me very hard to play!
The ping is not a problem (around 10-30, game still smooth like butter), but just the packet loss issue

I have the same issue too, but only when using streamyx.
No packet loss when using celcom/maxis 3G broadband though.

Here is the pingplotter to the Dota 2 SEA server..Packet Loss at the last 2 hops!

This is more of a game server issue than an ISP one, no? SEA servers have been known to be unstable since late last year.

Personally, I'm on VIP 10 myself and I have no such issues when I play during the day. Packet loss etc. only occurs at night, when the servers are all jammed up.

My ping is always OK, like 15-30 ms. But my loss is random. Some games cannot see autoattack animation, or spell like mirana arrow. It sucks.

PingPlotter shows that the packet loss when connect using Unifi point to SEA server (sgp-1.valve.net & sgp-2.valve.net)..
I am not sure the problem is it come with Unifi, I have tested with Maxis 3G there is no any packet loss issue..just ping get a bit high ..

Not sure for the Live TV, but they are checking the issue right now..not sure when they will solve this.
The packet loss issue is much more worst than high ping..

Who is checking the issue ?

Okay, it is official, I can't play Dota 2 anymore. 55% packet loss STABLE.

hmm look like it wasnt only me huh..

me and fren havin same prob..im on 10mbps he on 20mbps...

experiencing missing gold/attack animation/spell animation..

cost me a few rank match...odd enough my ping was jumping from 25 - 50+ suddenly...packet loss from 2% to 10%...so it was sea server prob huh

I am very aware of the issue with Unifi users facing mass packet loss in Dota 2 on SEA. The issue was told by a developer that TMNET is blocking networks connecting to Singapore servers, therefore we're facing the issue.

Anyway, I used a program for my MMOs called Battleping, it used to reduce my ping greatly, however I never needed it during my play on SEA dota since ping is 30+ only.

I tried it on SEA servers and loss became 0, I have premium and free disconnects every 20 mins. Try a pub game using it and post your feed.

I won't post links and advertise as I have nothing to do with the software website and don't want to violate any rules. I am just an avid dota player that want to share some fix with fellow players as I TOTALLY understand the problem of packet loss can be tremendously annoying.
