To achieve the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating, a vehicle must achieve a minimum score across all physical tests as well as meet minimum requirements for the inclusion of mandatory and additional safety equipment and safety assist technologies (SAT).



In 2013, the physical tests ANCAP conducts are:

1.             Frontal offset test - simulates hitting another car of the same mass travelling at the same speed – maximum 16 points.  Minimum of 12.5 points required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

2.             Side impact test - simulates two cars colliding at 90 degrees – maximum 16 points.  Minimum of 12.5 points required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

3.             Pole test - simulates a car colliding sideways with a fixed object such as a tree or a pole – maximum 2 points (only available where vehicles are fitted with head protecting side airbags).  Minimum of 1 point required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

4.             Pedestrian test - simulates a collision between a car and a pedestrian. Minimum score of 'Marginal' required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

5.             Whiplash test - assesses the performance of the seat and head restraint in protecting the occupant from neck and spinal injury through dynamic performance and geometric measurements. Minimum score of 'Acceptable' required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.



To achieve a 5 star ANCAP safety rating in 2013, a vehicle must also have:

·         electronic stability control (ESC)

·         3-point seat belts for all forward facing seats

·         head-protecting technology (side airbags) for front seats

·         seat belt reminders for front seats

·         emergency brake assist (EBA)

·         3 x additional SAT (such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), blind spot monitoring (BSM) etc.).



ANCAP recommends vehicles which have been awarded the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

did u even bother to check my previous post? org ancap sendiri jawab side curtain airbag is compulsory. Their website reveal so little on their rating scheme alas the reaaon i emailed them. please go through all my posting before calling someone fail.

required is head protecting side airbag which is curtain airbag. side impact airbag is not curtain headbag. dont be lazy and read back all my previous post. i already explained everything.

Holy...... couldn't u read it is airbags that protect front seat not rear seat? Curtain airbags is from the pillar right? It protect front and rear right? Haiz, nvm no point keep arguing in this topic. Just let it be. As i said earlier, i still believe what is in ANCAP website rather than any source out of website. No right or wrong here cause we are not the expert. 

read properly.. head protecting airbags for front seat. its curtain for front seat. side impact airbags does not protect the head. nowadays xurtain airbags ada 3 deployement points for each side.. straight to the back.  the required for 5 star is just for front seat but the added curtain till back is a bonus. u kan pandai research .

I rmb few months back proton salesman told my dad personally that proton preve turbo version lots of problem dont buy. I rather drive Myvi. Never trust proton ever since wira. Invest million million billion billion on research what they did in the end? Songlap la.

Lazy talk to a bull see yourself if u say they need curtain airbag to score 5 stars. Or like what i said that side airbags that can protect head. Watch 0.36 where is the airbag coming out. This is tally what is written in the website even in your email. This car have no curtain airbags and how it can score 5 stars? So shut your busuk mouth or mine? I will stop here for now. not really depend on the airbag design, some torso airbag a.k.a side airbag extend towards the head to protect the head itself



better ask proton for the side airbag design
