Airbags will affect rating, but will not achieve full star rating alone with all the airbags.  ESC is compulsory for full star rating.

are you willing to pay 80k to get australian spec proton?

get the CFE MALAYSIA VERSION and u still have 4 airbags with ESC which is the 5 star NCAP version

It is not the airbags get full star rating.  It is the ESC.  ESC is missing in malaysian non-cfe variant.

If proton smart, they will equipped esc for all variant for local market before the Asean NCAP start testing C segment car. And there is rumors spec preve is on the roll out.

DRB said that future cars will have standard spec for import and domestic. 
So what missing is ESC. Other than that it is the same. No ESC car will max only get 4 star rating. As good as preve non CFE will get 4 star.

Are you saying car without ESC can get full star rating?

Asean NCAP use the same metholody with ANCAP.

Honda City E achieve full rating score with only dual frontal airbags.  The different is it have  VSA/ESC.

Okay.  I have nothing to argue if you thought that way.

If you search in ANCAP site, there is car with only dual airbags get full star rating. But that was quite old. You might be right ANCAP increase the requirement to have side/curtain airbags on top of dual frontal to achieve fullstar. In this case, local Preve CFE is still a 5 star car.
And Honda City E might not be a 5 star car if ANCAP standard.

To achieve the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating, a vehicle must achieve a minimum score across all physical tests as well as meet minimum requirements for the inclusion of mandatory and additional safety equipment and safety assist technologies (SAT).



In 2013, the physical tests ANCAP conducts are:

1.             Frontal offset test - simulates hitting another car of the same mass travelling at the same speed – maximum 16 points.  Minimum of 12.5 points required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

2.             Side impact test - simulates two cars colliding at 90 degrees – maximum 16 points.  Minimum of 12.5 points required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

3.             Pole test - simulates a car colliding sideways with a fixed object such as a tree or a pole – maximum 2 points (only available where vehicles are fitted with head protecting side airbags).  Minimum of 1 point required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

4.             Pedestrian test - simulates a collision between a car and a pedestrian. Minimum score of 'Marginal' required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

5.             Whiplash test - assesses the performance of the seat and head restraint in protecting the occupant from neck and spinal injury through dynamic performance and geometric measurements. Minimum score of 'Acceptable' required in this test to be eligible for a 5 star ANCAP safety rating.



To achieve a 5 star ANCAP safety rating in 2013, a vehicle must also have:

·         electronic stability control (ESC)

·         3-point seat belts for all forward facing seats

·         head-protecting technology (side airbags) for front seats

·         seat belt reminders for front seats

·         emergency brake assist (EBA)

·         3 x additional SAT (such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB), adaptive cruise control (ACC), blind spot monitoring (BSM) etc.).



ANCAP recommends vehicles which have been awarded the maximum 5 star ANCAP safety rating.

The ausie version only have to extra side curtain airbag thats all.

I see lots of k/ pipu here are too ego to give credit when its due.

We are talking about the car safety feature and improvement made by proton then all sudenly talk about price naik la, tongkat la, malaysia got different car la. What the farking fak?

Love all the compact 3rd rate import cars all u want. Guess what? The tax is here to stay, time to live with it and accept the fact that you are living in Maalaysia, not in korea, japan or the USA u always been DREAMING about. So accept the fact that proton sell a higher spec car at a lower price compared to other makers in Malaysia.

That is a fact.

As i told you, there is 5 star car with dual airbags. And no. It is not 4 star if it is not tested.

Some people just cant accept something buatan malaysia acheived 5 stars in a foreign country test.
When Asean NCAP, say wait for ANCAP. Now ANCAP 5 star, said conquer UK baru talk.
OK la no curtain airbag, 4.8star la can onot? How about ask bulletproof Vios go ANCAP test see how many stars?

Are the Aussie specs the same as what we have locally? This is a good news for Proton

It mentioned in the email that side airbags one of the requirement on top of dual frontal airbags.  So, by that standard our preve cfe have that.


But the trend in AU whereby 4 airbags is no longer an attractive spec since AU are very particular on safety.  Most equipped 6 airbags as standard.

Asean NCAP only tested front colliding. So the 5 star rating is for that impact only.
Asean NCAP is still new.  They don't have much resource. But it is a good start to make people more concerned about care safety and equipment.
When people start concern about safety, there is no chance of model such as Camry can have 2 airbags and no VSC, and Almera with single airbag.  Still dare to say that the chassis is strong, no need extra airbags.
