Hi All,

I am currently in the midst of looking for a car. It's either Kia Forte 1.6SX or Kia Rio.

Would appreciate if anyone can provide some answers to the below questions on Kia Forte 1.6SX:
1. Is it powerful enough to go up Genting with 4 adult passengers? Anyone tried it, please help to comment.
2. Does it feel underpowered for 1.6 6-speed engine?
3. Can anyone share how much discount and free gifts did you receive when purchasing the 1.6SX version?
4. How effective is the GPS?
5. For Forte 1.6sx 6-speed owner, have anyone tried the Kia Rio? Would like to know your thoughts on the power comparison between those 2. I know they are different engines, however, would like to know whether there is any drastic differences in terms of power.

my opinion,

1. not yet
2. good enough for city driving and doesn't feel underpowered when driving on highway for long distance
3. look for Motorman / Buydirect in gs, sure best deal and services
4. locked satellite within 3 seconds (i'm using papago x8.5)

Is the default GPS that bad?

outdated map and less POI, navigation system is kinda confusing for me, dunno about other drivers

Ok. Outdated map always warrants for a change.
What about the speakers and radio reception? Are they good enough? And also the reverse camera - clear during night time?

speakers overall nice, maybe i'm not pro in this, but the radio isn't that good, dunno it's reception problem or the HU software, the reverse camera is great on day, good at night

p/s, if power is one of your concern, take forte coz rio is only 1.4L and when u have 4 ppl in the car, imagine that....

Everyone's definition of underpower is different. Some may say Range Rover Evoque is underpower. CR-Z underpower. Camry 2.0 underpower.

To me anything sedan size of C-Segment with 1,600cc N/A to carry 4 passengers driving up to Genting is considerably underpower. You need to rev the engine beyond 4k rpm to get some pick up after speed bumps towards uphill because of its limited peak torque.

If you concern about the power of your car to drive up Genting with alot passengers very often, I suggest you look for turbocharged comfort based car like Ford S-Max, VW Golf TSI, Proton Preve CFE.

1. KIa forte with 4 passenger- OK
2. Is depend that what car you wanna compare ,slightly underpower compare to vios&city

4. GPS signal very fast, only the speednavi is .... , can change to papago for more better navigation

Yupp..have to agree on this, the Preve CFE is powerful enough for uphill climbing & brief overtaking. Been driving the Preve up to Cameron Highlands before with 4 adults + 3 small daughters + full luggage, i have to say that the Preve's 1.6L CFE engine is strong enough for the uphill job + good pick up too..thanks to the turbo & perhaps the CVT transmission

I've test drove the Preve CFE and found it to be ok. I guess the test drive car hasn't went thru the re-tuning so it does feel a little sluggish initially. Overall, I think Preve is a fine car, except that the car seems to come with lots of issue that can be fixed during car service. I just don't like the idea to spend too much time in the service centre to get all the issues fixed. Thus, looking at either Kia Rio or Forte which I believe has less problems.

I've yet to test drive both cars, something that I would definitely do in order for me to decide which one to buy. Just thought that I get some opinions from car owners since you guys have been driving it for some time. Appreciate all the feedback so far. Thanks.

For those who've owned the Forte for more than a yr or more, any big issue with the car so far?

[/quote]Mine got no major problems on my 1 year and a month old 2.0SX. Except that I had the "check engine" indicator light on December last year. Car hibernated in SC for more than a week for endless series of drama from SC. Now so far so good.

With regards to Kia Rio, my ex-gf has it (eh hem).. Drove up to Genting at 120km mileage. I found that acceleration can cope well with other 1.6 and 1.8 cars with 2 person on board. It drives as well as Forte in terms of above avg handling & good NVH from ride and engine. Of course if you have more budget to spend, 2.0SX is more fun to drive because the torque is stronger and it makes a big difference in driving feel.

Generally people will choose to get Kia Rio because of its short dimension for easy parking, sun roof, projector headlamps, "rare" and one of its kind bread and butter sporty looks small hatch. Ford Fiesta and Mazda 2 still can't beat Rio's eye catching design with ample seating space for 4 or 5 with a little squeeze.

I will suggest you to test drive second round with Rio and observe much more in detail at different road and driving conditions. Rio is still new in Malaysian market and Forte soon will be replaced with new Forte K3 by early 2014. If you still find the car perform abit sluggish to your liking, maybe VW Jetta TSI or cheaper Proton Preve CFE is a better choice.

I've heard similar feedback regarding Rio on going up Genting and handling. Rio is a very good looking car and it has alot of safety features including 6 airbags vs Forte 1.6SX with only 2-airbags.

I think the sun roof is a little useless especially in Malaysia weather. I doubt I will utilize it if I get the Rio. With the price below RM80K, it's value for money since it has all the safety features, start-stop, smart entry, etc. I guess I can only determine which to buy after test driving both cars. Will continue to follow this thread for more information

If its not too much to ask, would you be kind enough to list down in point form the problems which you've heard affecting the Preve?
