renting car, 70 for kancil, 100 for iswara, 120 for wira, 180 for Citation.
but that price is 2 years back la.. dont get the car renting agent before u arrive the Langkawi Jetty.

If you are driving, maybe you can consider taking the ferry from Kuala Kedah. I normally drive overnight from KL to Kuala Kedah and take the early ferry to Langkawi. For parking, I normally park at the school opposite the jetty. Cost about RM7 per day if i'm not mistaken. Do not park in the jetty parking lot coz there were cases of flooding during high tide.

Kuala Perlis is further away and I'm not sure about the details though.

Don't know much about car rental coz I use my aunt's car in Langkawi.

is it safe to park my car there?

The school car park is operated by the PIBG of that school. I parked there most of the time and I still find my car in one piece (touch wood) sweat.gif

From PLUS highway, there's sign that shows Kuala Kedah / Ferry Langkawi. Take that exit. Then pay your toll and go straight at the traffic light. Can't remember exactly what's next but I'm quite sure you'll have to make a left turn further down. Anyway, you just need to follow the road sign to Kuala Kedah / Langkawi jetty and you can get there quite easily.

Travelling time on the ferry, depends, I would say around 1.5 - 2 hours

Tumpang this thread ya...

I may be planning a trip to Langkawi sometime after july (cannot miss the world cup ma!)... Which hotels are the most affordable (pref. below rm250 per night) and located on the beach? And izzit true that we have to stay for more than 72 hrs before stuff like ciggies and liquor can be brought back w/o the tax?

I have actually gone to langkawi before but only as a stopover... If things go well, this will be the first time i'm staying overnight on the island...

If not holiday-season, a 4-star hotel will cost around RM100 or less. There also many 2-star hotel in Langkawi,it should be quite cheap.

2. cheap places for food.
everything is cheap there icon_idea.gif

3. transportation. how to go around langkawi
better rent a car around RM100.

4. any suggested places to visit other than ones in brochures

Yes,,,you have to prove that you are in lgkw more than 72 hours(or was it 48) before you can bring out some tax free item.... If you go back by flight,,,hide it lar.... But if by ferry,,,then try to be innocent.... blink.gif

cheapest i heard is rm 30 per night but thats for long stay backpackers and very basic facilitiy room.... For a normal rate wif normal aircon room,,,i think the most rm80 will give you a very good choice alde.... Depends on whether u stay by beach or town also..... Contact a..... Erm,,,i think if u stay kuah,,,u can ask taxi driver but if cenang beach,,,,just walk thru the stretch and compare urself lar....

2. cheap places for food.
Basicly no good food here in lgkw so dun look like tourist and they wunt charge u expensive.... Cheapest here is nasi lemak......

3. transportation. how to go around langkawi
No public transport... Just rent a car,,,,frm jetty,,airport,,or some local groceries store wich is cheaper.... kancil,,,iswara will cost rm 40/50..... saga standard 50,,,sentra 80,,,wut else a.... scooter 25.... all is perday basis....

4. any suggested places to visit other than ones in brochures
I really dun suggest langkawi if you want a nice island holiday with nice beach and clear sea.... Maybe you can try to stay at the north part instead of normal south west which people stay lar.... Langkawi is a nice place to spend your money on tax free stuff or drinking only.... But if really going,,,datai beach,,,tanjung rhu or cenang beach is ok lar..... Gunung raya is a place to relax while gunung mat chincang is a must go place if u come langkawi.... You can also pay rm20+ for island hoping trips... Waterfalls is nice here tooo... Others is not worth visitinglar.....

Thanks for the tips, airseal... It is very likely that i will be taking a flight there, most probably via AirAsia (sometime in July, after the worldcup and my gf's final exams!)... Btw, how do you prove that you have been on the island for 72 hours? The hotel check-out bill? Or even the plane ticket?

And just like i mentioned, what are the affordable (below RM250 per night) and pref. located on the beach? Kuah can also be considered though...

Well, i should be going there with my gf and another couple (my colleague and his gf, if things turn out right)...

Phonar: yeah, i think that will be a good choice... I checked langkawi-hotels.com and they displayed rates of around RM195nett (should be rack rates?)... The hotel itself looks comfy, classy, and with beach as well as nice pool...
