Sunday morning...nothing to do...fitting time to write my 2nd Huawei testimonial..

So, I've join Huawei for almost 2 years already. I'm previously a Datacom Engineer (MRO) and currently working as Enterprise Network Engineer (MRO).

I'll talk about job as Datacom engineer first. Working hours has been stable recently (can go back at 6-7pm), compared to previously 9-11pm. But the job is riskier than ever due to the network is already up and closely monitored by customer (do any stupid mistakes, customer will file a complain letter to your boss!!). Anyways, if any of you join MRO, doesn't mean you won't have a chance to travel abroad. I've been to Brunei for about 2 months to implement their Metro-E network, and my colleagues have been to Australia & Laos.

My ex-boss and colleagues are all very helpful. When I first join, I don't know anything about networking because I am from Electronic course in university days. They patiently teach me and I have gotten my CCNA and CCNP certificate working towards my CCIE. I believe that you can't get any better hands-on experience outside compared to Huawei. I have learn many things and given many opportunities compared to my coursemates who joined other network vendor companies (shall not be named!!). But I guess you all know by now, Huawei is a China-based company....so it's quite "kedekut" la, don't expect a lot of bonus and increment. It's a great place to learn and don't worry if you don't have any networking skills, you will learn while you're there.

My ex-boss once said, he only look for staff who he thinks is hardworking and willing to learn, if he want to find those people who is hardworking, willing to learn and have networking skill, it will probably take him months to find. (haha, tip for those going to interview smile.gif ). All in all, while the company itself is @#%@#%, the people in it are great, and if I am given a chance to do it all over again, I'll still choose Huawei.

So, I have transferred to Enterprise department (3 months already). Things here are more relaxing than Telco department. I get to travel to Singapore and Australia brows.gif Nothing much to say here yet, there is currently only 2 IP engineers here. Current boss is looking for more engineers actually, but he always reject the ones that I recommended cry.gif . Maybe this boss has higher expectation than my previous boss...

Anyways, enough for my personal blog!! sweat.gif Good luck for those going for interviews thumbup.gif

P/S: If you heard the Etiqa office is moving next month, don't believe them sweat.gif the IT department not yet finish set up the office network, CCTV also belum pasang, how to move in wor..most likely its 2-3 months time, not next month

Before reading understand that this is my experience.I have no ill feelings towards them. After all, this is a China based company.

just thought I ll add in my experience with Huawei.A little background info on global network engineer >5 years experience+ cisco certs /juniper/brocade/sourcefire/HP.About 2 months back I applied for the Datacom position, they called,i went. The interview was scheduled at 9.30am,I was there at 9.They only appeared at 11am for the interview,a bit odd behaviour for such a large company but nevermind.1st interview was piece of cake, standard issue OSPF BGP,MPLS+VPN config and troubleshooting Qs.Then I was told that a 2nd interview will be conducted,a further 1 1/2 hour wait time.I was beginning to think that this must be a Chinese tactic to discourage a non chinese from getting a job while trying to show that race doesnt matter.Interesting.

I figured I will go though with it just to see what is it like. The HR interview was pretty offensive. She said things like why was I there and I quote"Are you really sure you can adapt to Chinese culture? This is a Chinese COMMUNIST company, are you really sure that you want this job?" and told me that I should shut my mouth in front my boss and not say anything.I wasnt suprised, local chinaman companies are real pain to deal with and this was one from the motherland(China).

Still ,i said its fine.We all learn to adapt anyway.Come the 3rd interview, the director.a local chinese. He seemed more interested in what I did during my free time,I answered accordingly. An hour later ,we were done,HR came and said They will contact me if successful. Now came the waiting time, only 5 weeks later did they call and said rather rudely when I was going to come to sign the offer letter.Wow,these fellas really do have little respect for job candidiates.I told them that I will give Huawei a miss based on how they conducted things. The boss( the guy who I was going to be working under) then calls back and questions me why.He then said that I have 24 hours to sign or get lost.

i thought to myself,I havent even started working there and they are so nasty.I wonder what will happen if I did join.

I just came back from interview, I applied for Access Network Engineer, but they told me I have to travel South Pacific and blah blah blah...

Overall the whole interview was quick, I met 3 people including HR, the other 2 I'm not sure what position are they, they didn't even introduce themselves.

The interviewer asked me whether I regret of enrolled into my university because of my bad result and keep laughing at my transcript, well I have to admit that my result is bad, but he doesn't have to be like this mah... it hurts cry.gif

archerlailiao: I'm a chinese, so the HR didn't ask me like they did to you, but as far as I know the HR is malaysian right?

hmm...wat i heard from some of the staff from huawei, they say the HR like to use this way to tease ppl....

i think the reason is they want to see whether u can handle the stress environment...

but my 3 interview so far quite ok, no 1 tease on me...

So let me get this straight, the HR justifies its degrading acts by saying its a 'test' for stress management ??????????

China logic = Degrading people is a test for stress management.

Fascinating!
