Since I'm feeling bored and sleepy, I'm gonna write some testimonial of my own on Huawei.

I join Huawei 2 months ago, Datacom MRO department. Money-wise, the company pays really well. Basic 2200 (contract staff - fresh grad). On top with 500 allowance (after your 3 month probation period). Plus, petrol/toll/parking all can claim IF you go to site (99% you're on site). EPF 12% (or 11%...maybe its 13%...too sleepy cant remember). Got insurance, mightnight snack, night shift work, etc etc...

PLUSSS, depending on your project, you can get simcard with rm80 reloaded monthly or a USB broadband or BOTH..I got both..wahaha...anyways, shouldn't write too much info here if not they know who post this during working hours doh.gif

About working life/experience here, be prepared to work long hours..I've been working since 10am...till now...1.04am...no OT!!...You won't have a life outside Huawei, everyday work work work...for fresh grad, superb place to start...but can you stand the stress and the long working hours? It's up to you. They give you alot of responsibilities and work even though you just started (be prepared to learn on the spot!!).

Working environment...hmm...great seniors (can only testify for my department). Without them, I don't know how to survive la..oh btw, if you're the quiet and shy person, afraid to ask type...on your 1st month you sure die.. sweat.gif
If you know how to read/speak mandarin, of course it'll be an advantage because once you interact with them (China R&D people), you can learn all sorts of things (can learn by yourself also but slower pace la). They understand English, but they don't understand our Malaysian-English slang, haha..too powderful..

Time to get coffee and work!!...yeahhh!!

Unfortunately yes, you will probably have to work on average 10 hours a day with no extra OT pay. Sometimes it can go up to 18 hours, sometimes if you're lucky, you can go back at 5.30pm (work starts at 9am, but this is very flexible depending on your boss and how much work you have). And be prepared to be on "stand-by" mode 24/7 where your boss or any PM may call you anytime if there's any problem (but this only applies to technical position)

However, ZTE also have this work culture. Basically, any China companies will work you to hell, if you cant take it then join those Western companies (Ericsson, NSN, HP, etc etc...).

Sunday morning...nothing to do...fitting time to write my 2nd Huawei testimonial..

So, I've join Huawei for almost 2 years already. I'm previously a Datacom Engineer (MRO) and currently working as Enterprise Network Engineer (MRO).

I'll talk about job as Datacom engineer first. Working hours has been stable recently (can go back at 6-7pm), compared to previously 9-11pm. But the job is riskier than ever due to the network is already up and closely monitored by customer (do any stupid mistakes, customer will file a complain letter to your boss!!). Anyways, if any of you join MRO, doesn't mean you won't have a chance to travel abroad. I've been to Brunei for about 2 months to implement their Metro-E network, and my colleagues have been to Australia & Laos.

My ex-boss and colleagues are all very helpful. When I first join, I don't know anything about networking because I am from Electronic course in university days. They patiently teach me and I have gotten my CCNA and CCNP certificate working towards my CCIE. I believe that you can't get any better hands-on experience outside compared to Huawei. I have learn many things and given many opportunities compared to my coursemates who joined other network vendor companies (shall not be named!!). But I guess you all know by now, Huawei is a China-based company....so it's quite "kedekut" la, don't expect a lot of bonus and increment. It's a great place to learn and don't worry if you don't have any networking skills, you will learn while you're there.

My ex-boss once said, he only look for staff who he thinks is hardworking and willing to learn, if he want to find those people who is hardworking, willing to learn and have networking skill, it will probably take him months to find. (haha, tip for those going to interview smile.gif ). All in all, while the company itself is @#%@#%, the people in it are great, and if I am given a chance to do it all over again, I'll still choose Huawei.

So, I have transferred to Enterprise department (3 months already). Things here are more relaxing than Telco department. I get to travel to Singapore and Australia brows.gif Nothing much to say here yet, there is currently only 2 IP engineers here. Current boss is looking for more engineers actually, but he always reject the ones that I recommended cry.gif . Maybe this boss has higher expectation than my previous boss...

Anyways, enough for my personal blog!! sweat.gif Good luck for those going for interviews thumbup.gif

P/S: If you heard the Etiqa office is moving next month, don't believe them sweat.gif the IT department not yet finish set up the office network, CCTV also belum pasang, how to move in wor..most likely its 2-3 months time, not next month

Sounds like you love Huawei so far~~
How's the pay and workload? How would you rate them with a score from 1 to 10? 10 being best.
*
I don't know about the people above, but my experience with Huawei colleagues/boss (not the company) is pretty good. Mind you, I am a Chinese, but I am what they call a "banana" sweat.gif

If you want to compare pay-to-workload ratio...I'll probably give it 3/10. The pay is not as good as other MNC companies out there, but the experience value here is a lot better (I have a few friends and ex-colleagues in HP/Ericsson/Juniper/Dimension Data/Measat and all of them gave the same comment).

Do you mean that contract staff is better than permanent staff under the huawei group?
*
What prosibu is saying is:

Huawei have 3 types of staff.
1. Outsource
2. Huawei Contract
3. Huawei Permenant

It is very rare to get Huawei permenant staff. The benefits are definately better as Huawei contract increment and bonus is capped at certain level. Sometimes, if you are Huawei contract, when they renew your contract, you will be offered 0% increment. But from what I know, usually will have SOME increment la...and as for outsource, no need say already la..it's the worst.

From my previous department, out of 20+ staffs, only 3 are Huawei permanent. So, I assume, in Huawei, only about 15% of the staffs are Huawei permanent staffs (those outside of China). In HQ China, most of them are permanent staffs.

Hi

Huawei got their own HCIE and HCDP certifications which are equivalent to Cisco's CCIE and CCNP certifications.

Why would they help you get CCIE and CCNP instead of HCIE and HCDP?
*
I never said in the post that Huawei is helping to get my CCIE. Huawei never help in anything. It's my previous Huawei COLLEAGUES that is patient enough to help me from scratch. All the funds are from my own pocket.

But most of them are in different companies right now. I am not sure about the current generation of workers in Huawei smile.gif

When working in Huawei, if we want to take their Huawei certifications, do they give us free training and exams?

Do we have flexibility or freedom to take whatever Huawei certifications that we like?
*
During my time, which was about 2 years ago, Huawei was pushing everybody to take their exams. Of course you need to start from bottom, so I did my HCDA and HCDP sponsored by Huawei. However, mine is without class. They just gave me some powerpoint to read and ask me take exam.

I guess, during that time, maybe the official course also haven't come out yet. And they didn't really give me any choice to take which exam sweat.gif Not sure about now though...
