phone restore complete. below is the field report:
1. attempt to soft-reset using hardware buttons - phone restarted but nothing changed
2. attempt to hard-reset using hardware buttons - phone restarted but nothing changed
3. went to Settings > About and reset the phone there - phone showing two gears image for more than 15 mins. PHONE BRICKED
4. attempted to soft-reset phone but stuck at Nokia logo
5. flashed phone using NaviFirm Plus and Nokia Care Suite - successfully flashed
6. restore phone settings using skydrive and recovered the following
- call history, sms history, installed applications, phone book (i'm using gmail)
problems faced after skydrive restore:
1. many apps showing "attention required" message. some doesn't work even after attempt to retry download.
- problem due to app downloaded via different region. fortunately i'm only use Malaysia and United States. so majority apps can be downloaded
2. apps still showing "attention required" after switching region
- problem is unknown. some article says app is no longer available to Store and is asked to wait.
- EDIT: finally found out that it is due to Nokia stock apps. just have to manually go to Store and update to latest version
3 realize LINE app is not reinstalled. manually install via Store and one pending download that shows "attention required" is gone.
- conclusion: some app needs to be reinstalled manually
WARNING: all app data is not restored because skydrive backup doesn't saves the information. beware if you attempt to reset your phone
problem solved:
1. duplicate entry of video in Music+Videos app resolved
2. problem where deleting image via USB permanently removes from device. meaning i no longer need to manually delete from stock photo app
Thanks for the field report.
As I expected, the windows phone backup process is not up to scratch if compared with the iOS backup and restore process. Microsoft needs to buck up and implement something similar like iOS.
I am planning to upgrade my iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, 2 x iPad 2 to 6.1 and I am secure in knowing that whenever I wipe the iOS devices clean during a full restore, I can easily restore the devices with their respective backups (store locally on my Mac) and my devices will be restored (app data, SMS you name it) to the previous state.
