Ok Ill add your first request for the v18 thread.

1. No preferred brand, though I would like something with good post-sale service.
2. Budget: 2500 is my highest ceiling, but would very much like something 2200 and below.
3. For uni, a little bit of gaming. Nothing heavy like FPS or anything. I usually just play indies a lot anyways (humble    bundle ftw). I have a PS3 for the heavy gaming stuff.
4. 13"-14". Would consider a 15", only if its light though.

I also have this current one (Compaq CQ42, i5) that I'm not too sure what to do with. Would it be better to sell it off myself or find a trade in? I know you usually get less in trade ins but i might consider just for the less hassle and if its not that much difference than selling it off by itself.

So, yeah. LOWYAT.net masters, shower me with your wisdom biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif
*
The Compaq CQ42 is a pretty old notebook notorious for overheating iinm hmm.gif not sure whether you could still sell it or not, if cannot, then might as well just trade it in hmm.gif

For your requirements, get a Dell~
Two options for you depending on how much you wanna spend~
14"
Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP/W8

OR

Dell Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8

Graphic performance-wise, GT640M > GT630M... not that it matters since you don't really game on your notebook icon_rolleyes.gif
HDD speed-wise, the 14R SE is better~
*Regardless of which one you pick, extend warranty to 3 years on-site@~RM249

I think you just found out the reason for me searching for a replacement laptop. sweat.gif This thing heats up quicker than my oven.  sad.gif I can't even run a simple 2D game without this piece of junk rebooting.

Anyway I have been doing a little bit of research myself and it always comes back to the 14Rs. I just need a few more opinions, I guess. Might go for the SE though as they have backlit keyboards on those, which is very nice.

Do you know anything about the 14R that is not on brochures? I mean something like, previous owner's experiences, or like recurring complaints maybe. Something like the overheating issues of the CQ42, but for the Dell's. The stuff you can't find out by asking the sellers la basically. Any info is appreciated  smile.gif
*
Well, we almost always recommend the 14R SE because it is basically an all rounder for a price range of RM2.1k... decent CPU and GPU, fast HDD, good warranty support thumbup.gif
If you don't mind about the after sales service, then we would recommend the Asus A45 brows.gif

As for the 14R SE, there were complaints of BSOD after awhile of usage by some of the users, not really sure what's the cause of the issue hmm.gif

T.J thanks for the reply on the previous tread. Does it means that the XPS13 is more recommended instead of the UX31A? Because i've been reading reviews and some say that the XPS 13 has a relatively low battery life? Mind clarify for me? Grats for the new tread.

From there, XPS 13 get 5 hours surfing with WiFi.

And that XPS13 reviewed comes with an i7 ULV processor yo laugh.gif
Should be able to squeeze out a little more battery life with an i5? tongue.gif

medium gaming in term of medium setting forneed for speed all series, modern warfare 4 and etc the big big titles.......budget around 2.6k (max)
*
Y u no follow format even in 1st page? sad.gif

Not sure what you meant by around RM2.6k (max), but if you can afford it, the Lenovo Y400 would be one of the best choices for you (assuming you want a 14" notebook):

14"
Lenovo Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD

Otherwise, going down one level, would be these:

Asus A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8
Dell Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8
Lenovo Z480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W7HB, colors: grey/red/blue

Where you still have enough budget to extend warranty to 3 years icon_rolleyes.gif

will the ultrabook, (im eying on Dell xps 12 duo / Lenovo Yoga btw) will be able to handle atleast, a little session of CAD/CAM software, lets just say i just want to view a CAD drawing. thats all. will they handle it?

because i like the tablet/ultrabook combo thingie, save money dont have to buy 2 separate things.

Looking forward for the answer. tq.

Been having a dilemma on this two laptops:
Asus
N56VZ-S3151H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799[2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 750GB, W8; color: black @RM2799
Lenovo
Y400(59-356819), i7-3630QM/GT650M(GDDR5)@2799/4GB/500GB/W8/red backlit keyboard/120w psu/ODD (swappable)/2 yrs warranty/backpack

Both offer decent gaming GPUs.
So which is worth getting for gaming + studies.
*
Assuming your "Studies" only involve normal assignments using Microsoft Office. If that is the case, the Y400 would be the better pick since it is smaller and lighter, easier for you to carry around brows.gif

Having the i7 CPU will also mean that the notebook is capable of rendering and simulation if your course requires it i.e. Engineering, Bioinformatics, designing etc. icon_rolleyes.gif

So now brand wise.

Which is better?

I really can't decide, there isn't anything convincing enough to get me to decide firmly on one laptop .
*
Asus Malaysia has poorer after sales service compared to Lenovo. But Asus products are still okay in general... just pray that you don't get a bad Apple tongue.gif

So please give me suggestions smile.gif

The Inspiron 14R SE would be your best bet nod.gif

*Price is in RRP, can bargain~

If you prefer something cheaper (and of course, weaker), then these:

Dell Inspiron 14R, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1899[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP/W8

Lenovo G480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1899, 4GB, 1TB (5400rpm), W8, 2 yrs warranty

Dell Inspiron 15R, i5-3210M + AMD HD7670M@RM1899[2.65kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP/W8

For these notebooks, try to use your remaining budget to extend warranty to 3 years icon_rolleyes.gif

z580:graphic nicer but i not sure about the resolution.
s56cm: design nice hv ssd, but processor low and graphic lower thn z580
pls help

The S56 is an ultrabook aimed for lightness and slimness

The Z580 is a mainstream notebook and has better performance but heavier weight nod.gif

So its entirely up to you, if you want performance, then its the Z580 for you. Otherwise, its the S56 laugh.gif
