Those 2 models are your best bet within your budget  thumbup.gif
Get RAM, get SSD, (for Dell) extend warranty for the remaining of your budget.
Unless you up your budget to go laugh.gif
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD

Thanks dude. Comparing i7 3630 with i5 3210, does these two makes huge differences?

Any review on Y400? Looks like it comes with strong robustness

hmm, ok, then is it worth to get a new laptop for 2k over an asus a52j for 1.5k?
*
May I know why are you so keen on the A52J? biggrin.gif
I remember the specs is something like: 1st gen i5, Nvidia 310M, no USB 3.0, ...
By now, manufacture warranty expired, battery is about to die, ....

The models that was suggested to you has much better spec, spanking new with warranty, outperform A52J at least 30% in most games, ...

You make the call icon_rolleyes.gif

What can fight with lenovo y500 sli class?
*
If you talk about games that support SLI, you need GTX670MX to own the Y500 GT650M SLI.
So something like these 15":

MSI
GT60-ONC, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX670MX + (1920x1080;anti-glare)@RM5799[Dyaudio], 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7HP, 2 years warranty, MSI backpack, HDMI cable
GT60-ONC, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX675M + (1920x1080;anti-glare)@RM6699[Dyaudio], 8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W7HP, 2 years warranty, MSI backpack, HDMI cable, Steelseries headset

Illegear
Illegear RS-15, i5-3210M + AMD HD7970M + (1920x1080)@RM5299, 8GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i5-3210M - i7-3940XM][GPU options: GTX680M]

For games that don't support SLI, anything with GTX660M and above win.

1. Preferred Brand: Dont mind

2. Budget :< RM3,000 ( around 2500 would be better)

3. Usage: gaming (dota 2 / fifa13 / football manager 13 ) , college work

4. Preferred laptop screen size: 14"/15"

5. Extra : backlight keyboard

6. preferred laptop : lenovo y400 but im worried about the screen resolution (is it okay?)

Thanks in advance  biggrin.gif
*
The games that you listed are not GPU demanding smile.gif
What do you mean by "is it ok" for Y400 screen resolution (1366x768)? All the consumer class 14" laptop in Malaysia is having HD (1366x768) resolution sweat.gif

Around RM2k, these can handle your games:
Asus
A45VS-VX026H, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT645M@RM2199[2.4kg], 2GB, 500GB, W8
Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8

Otherwise:
Lenovo 14"
Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD
15"
Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty (Stock limited)
These are the best bang for buck gaming laptop now smile.gif
Try to get local set (it come with 2 year warranty), grey import is cheaper but has the usual caveat (1 year warranty, some owners complained of difficulty in getting warranty service from Lenovo Malaysia).

Price is RSP, negotiable.

i7-3630M is quad core, i5-3210M is duo core. i7 is of course much more powerful than i5 biggrin.gif
Nevertheless, for most games out there, you are more than likely bottlenecked by the GPU first. When you have GPU like GTX675MX or better... then CPU may start coming into play. (of course there are always a few games out there that is CPU hog like GTA IV ... )

i7 is best appreciated if you use application that can utilise all 4 cores, like those Adobe products, scientific / engineering softwares that churn lots of data, ....

Y400
http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2619081
check with owners here.
Not many worthwhile review for Y400. And that's because the ultrabay GPU is not available (anywhere in the world) yet sweat.gif

HD movies - Intel HD graphic (in Atom CPU that commonly found inside Netbook) can handle this smile.gif
Photoshop - now this depend on how extensive a job you do tongue.gif
Since you did not specify screen size, here are some 14".

Dell
Inspiron 14, i3-3110M + Intel HD4000@RM1399[2.1kg], 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8
HP
Pavilion G4-2110TU, i3-3110M + Intel HD4000@RM1599, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HP
Lenovo
G480, i3-3110M + Nvidia GT635M@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS
G480, i5-3210M + Intel HD4000@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB (5400rpm), FreeDOS

Ideapad G580, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1699, 2GB, 500GB, freeDOS, 1 yr warranty

Hi, there... ^w^
Could i get some recommendation on laptop.
a bit about me:
-Software programming student(still studying)
-hard grind gamer(could reach 12 hours in total per day)
-anime lover ^ adds more time to the above mentioned

1. Preferably Asus
2. Budget: 3000-4000 but would very much like something below 3000
3. For multiple programming, Gaming. At most as for now is Skyrim or Dragon Nest.
4. Bigger is better, since having multiple windows running over one time during coding is a bother to find another monitor biggrin.gif

My current laptop is the Acer Aspire 4736 though i wonder if i sell it with a broken graphics card to a trade in / buy old shop...would they take it for a high price?
Anyway, Thanks in advance...looking forward for your reply ^w^
