Hey guy, need so advise here:

1. Preferred Brand: similiar to Sony T14
2. Budget :< RM3,000
3. Usage: movie streaming, doc and excel work, light gaming
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14"

Wanted to know is any other Ultrabook brand and model which better than T14 with the limited budget RM3k?
*
I don't think T14 is in Malaysia yet smile.gif
But I remember T14 spec is just i3/5/7-3xxxU with Intel HD4000, HDD, ODD.

Look at these to see if they strike your fancy:

Acer

Asus

Those 2 models are your best bet within your budget thumbup.gif
Get RAM, get SSD, (for Dell) extend warranty for the remaining of your budget.
Unless you up your budget to go laugh.gif

Y580 is 15" (not 14"). Heavy. Total overkill for light gaming laugh.gif
Worth to buy? If you are looking for the best gaming laptop money can buy in Malaysia under RM3k, YES YES YES smile.gif

Y580 don't have the wifi issue as in U series (which allegedly has been solved btw, but I can't verify tongue.gif ).
Nevertheless, the Y580 in Malaysia is getting the Broadcom wireless chipset, and the wireless performance is not the most ideal sweat.gif

The Inspiron 14R SE comes with a 500GB(7200rpm) HDD: http://configure.ap.dell.com/dellstore/con...s=dhs&cs=mydhs1

Like what nexus and I have said, HDD speed is more important than capacity. If you need more space, just get an external HDD.
As to where to buy, just get from Dell online (remember to bargain) nod.gif

hello all sifu

i'm looking for the best laptop i can get for under 2k

main use for work but also good if the unit can take a bit of gaming on the side, e.g. running top games on minimum specs

preferably 15 inch and above, don't mind heavy weight, not so concerned about super long batt life either

to round up:

budget: 2k
brand: any
usage: word, powerpoint, heavy multitasking, gaming (e.g. new fps's on min spec)
screen size: 15in 1920x1080

any recommendations?

p.s. i have received an offer for an asus k52j for 1.5k but it cant be bumped up to 1920 res and that irritates me a bit :S

At your budget, there is no 15" with FHD.

Closest:
Lenovo
Ideapad Y580, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GTX660M + 1920x1080 @RM2999[JBL], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W7HB/W8, backlit keyboard, 2 yrs warranty (Stock limited)

15" laptop with the most raw power around your budget:
Lenovo
Ideapad Z580, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 750GB(5400rpm), W7HB, white
Ideapad Z580, i7-3612QM + Nvidia GT640M@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), freeDOS, white
Dell
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + AMD HD7730M@RM2199, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm); backlit keyboard optional, W7HP/W8

Read review here. (spec may differ slightly)

Personally, I just find the i7 spec run quite warm. Otherwise, quite nice in term of build quality.

Intel mobile CPU in the market right now is either Sandy Bridge (2nd gen) or Ivy Bridge (3rd gen) i core.
B8xx is the "Celeron" brand under Sandy Bridge architecture.
B9xx is the "Pentium" brand under Sandy Bridge architecture.
They are supposed to receive a revision to Ivy Bridge by Intel around March13.

http://forum.lowyat.net/Notebooks&Tablets
Go here to look for 2nd hand laptop.
Please exercise usual caution dealing with someone you meet online smile.gif
You can probably find someone letting go of their laptop with sandy bridge i3 or i5 (i3/5-2xxxM) CPU within the budget smile.gif
Important thing to keep in mind is that if you go 2nd hand, most likely the laptop will not be under manufacturer warranty anymore tongue.gif
