??? You can get Y400 local set at RM25xx. Spend the remaining of your budget to upgrade warranty to 3 years on site. You can upgrade those RAM and HDD easily later.

I don't know what you mean by better smile.gif But both models are lighter and have more powerful GPU than your current laptop.

Guys is there Lenovo Y500 that come with only one graphic card? As i no need the 2nd piece of graphic card because I'm not in gaming. I'm just need the full hd and use it as a programming learning laptop. I saw lenovo Y500 at the website stated $799.00,is it the price that come with one piece of graphic card only? If so,is it available in Malaysia?

QUOTE(Silver Isle @ Feb 24 2013, 04:43 PM)
1. Preferred Brand: ANY, as long as they're trustable
2. Budget: RM2000-RM3000
3. Usage: A little bit of Facebook games like Zuma Blitz, love watching HD movies/dramas, multitask a lot (many many tabs on browser, compare many different word/excel/powerpoint documents simultaneously, music and torrent on the background, etc.), and I often leave the laptop on for long hours for torrent
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: preferably 15.6'', minimum 14'' and above
5. Preferred operating system: Windows 8
6. Others: Aesthetically, I like it being thin and light but I need an optical drive, and I also luuuuurve the colour black and red but that's optional; I expect this laptop to last for the next 3 years at least, hence paying a little more for something I might not need now but in the future is fine with me; I didn't want a touchscreen as I didn't like the idea of a screen full of fingerprints but the salesperson of this shop I went to kept telling me without touchscreen Windows 8 will not be able to function to its fullest, is that true?

These are what I have in mind now: Lenovo Z500 vs Lenovo Y400 vs Asus S56CM vs Asus S550CM

Would greatly appreciate if you can suggest me other models out there that fit my needs or if you can list a few flaws of the above-mentioned so that I can take some off my list to lessen my headaches. Great thanks!
*
15" and "thin & light" don't go hand-in-hand laugh.gif
W8 work great without touchscreen.
Your usage requirement don't need anything powerful at all. An Ivy Bridge i5 (M or ULV) and Intel HD4000 IGPU could handle it.
14" ultrabook usually come with ODD.
Ohhh, don't "trust" any brands laugh.gif See that you list 2 Asus models there, and Asus Malaysia currently has the most iffy laptop warranty support service.
If you multi-task a lot, then increase RAM to 8G (2x4G stick), should be enough.
If you left your laptop running for long time, make sure you get good external cooling solution (table fan, cooling pad ~ RM80 ... )

Consider these 14" (15" is generally heavy)
Dell
Inspiron 14z, i5-3337U + AMD HD7570M + 32GB SSD + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM2549[1.87kg], 4GB, W8 *no VGA port, OD

HP
Envy4-1204TX, i5-3337U + AMD HD8750M + 32GB mSATA +500GB(5400rpm)@RM2399[Beats][1.75kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), W8

Lenovo
S400, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 24GB mSATA + 500GB(5400rpm)@RM1999[1.8kg], 4GB, W7HB; AMD HD7450M/W8@RM2199

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
Use your remaining budget to increase RAM (4G stick ~ RM80), extend warranty (Dell, 3 years on site), cooling pad ... Wait for 2 more years, SSD capacity/price get better, upgrade your HDD to SSD smile.gif

Hi all sifus, I'm planning to purchase a new notebook next month and hope you all can suggest me something.

1. Preferred Brand: Any will do
2. Budget: RM 3000 to RM 4000
3. Usage: Programming, office work, internet, reading
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Anti-glare screen and light weight. 13/14inch will do (15 too heavy, 12 too small for me. Haha)

I was eyeing at the Asus Zenbook (UX31A-R4005H), but kinda worry about their warranty service.

I'm quite happy with the Samsung NP530U4C too. But I'll wait and see what other alternatives you experts can suggest me. Maybe I'm miss out some good options.

Thank you!!

Use the remaining of your budget (if any) to increase RAM (Asus) (4G ~ RM80), extend warranty (Dell, 3 years on site), get a cooling pad if you don't have 1 already (~ RM80 should be good enough. Heat kill laptop fast.)

Your friend best bet:

Lenovo

G480, i5-3210M + Intel HD4000@RM1499, 2GB, 500GB (5400rpm), FreeDOS

G580, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT630M@RM1699, 2GB, 500GB, freeDOS, 1 yr warranty

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
Your friend will get an Ivy Bridge i3/i5. Intel HD4000 can handle those FB / flash game, and classic games. Newer game titles, go for models with Nvidia GPU. FreeDos mean need to get OS yourself.

1. Preferred Brand:  HP
2. Budget: RM3k
3. Usage: most of the time is connected to LCD TV for:
               - play HD movie, 4GB-10GB file size
               - online streaming TV
               - open few browsers at same time + multiple tabs
               - online music at background
               - torrenting for long hours
               - Facebook games
               - later PC game (dunno what game yet)
4. Preferred laptop/screen size:  doesn't matter coz use TV as primary monitor

reason: to replace current laptop:
HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook PC
Inter® Core™2 Duo CPU  P7350 @ 2.00GHz
RAM  4.00GB / Vista Home
*
If multitask a lot, increase RAM, 8G should be enough (4G stick ~ RM80)
If use laptop for long hour, make sure has good external cooling, cooling pad (~RM80) or table fan ... otherwise the laptop will die fast.
If you don't know what PC game titles you are going to play, it's hard to judge. But current HP line-up in Malaysia don't have top end GPU tongue.gif
CPU wise, any new models within your budget will outperform to Core2Duo laugh.gif Most laptop now come with W8.
Since you connect the LCD TV most of the time, weight and size is not important consideration. (BTW, why don't you consider a HTPC, a lot cheaper you know smile.gif Also torrenting on laptop HDD just make it die faster)

On site warranty? Best thing since slice bread laugh.gif
On site warranty - if your hardware has any problem, give Dell a call, technician will do dianogsis. If the laptop need to be repaired, Dell will send a technician to your house (or anywhere else you specify; be reasonable, not the jungle ok smile.gif ) and fix in on the spot, on next business day. You never need to personally send laptop to service centre.

My dell n5010r is dying (kinda refret to buy this overheat master though == ) so i need a replacement for it soon.

1. No preferred brand, as long as cheap, reliable and good review
2. 2.5k
3. Good in multimedia. Graphics card need no to be too great, as long as can play smoothly in high res game in medium settings. Light.
4. 14-15inch

Hope sifus here can give me good recommendations ya

15" won't be light, so 14" for you smile.gif
For your budget, you can't get top end GPU in laptop laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
Every brands has lemon smile.gif Want less headache, get laptop with good warranty service support (Dell, Lenovo, HP ... )

Dell
Inspiron 14R (Special Edition), i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M(28nm Kepler)@RM2049[2.38kg], 4GB, 500GB(7200rpm), W7HP/W8

Lenovo
Z480, i5-3210M + Nvidia GT640M@RM2099, 4GB, 1TB(5400rpm) W8, colors: grey/red/blue

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
Use your remaining budget to upgrade warranty (Dell, 3 years on site ~ RM250), buy a cooling pad (~ RM80 should be good enough).

If you are concerned about warranty support service, it is better for you to avoid Asus Malaysia for now smile.gif Otherwise you are buying a lottery that you don't want to strike laugh.gif
