been browsing the catalogue for a while, looking for a bang for bucks laptop, strictly under rm2200 for both 14" and 15", shoot me some suggestions, don't mind the brand or usage,

it seems like inspiron 15r se is the best is it

What do mean by don't mind the usage? laugh.gif
If you travel, you need something light (sacrifice power); if you game, you neeed good GPU.
So nobody can tell you what is "bang for bucks" unless you tell us what you want to use it for smile.gif

Hi to all Sifus. Need some help in finding the right Ultrabook to fit my budget and use. Thanks!

1. Asus, Toshiba, Samsung, wouldn't mind Acer if the deal is good
2. RM 3,500+-
3. Surfing, Skype, Some movies, Microsoft Office, Web Apps. No Gaming
4. Best if below 1.3KGs. Screen size at least 13" above

I am going to use it for extensive travelling so I thought SSD hard disk would be safer to transport around.

Only 13" or smaller can satisfy your weight requirement smile.gif

Acer
Aspire S5-391-53314G12, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3499[1.2kg], W7HP
Aspire S7-391-53314G12, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920x1080; touch)@RM3799, 4GB, W8

Asus
UX31A-R4005H, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD + (1920 x 1080)@RM3499[1.3kg], 4GB, W8

Toshiba
Portégé Z930-2021, i5-3317U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3799[1.12kg], W8, 6GB, 3 years warranty (1st year on-site); W8P@RM3599, RM200 voucher

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
For all these models, the RAM is fixed (you can't upgrade), and if you want to change SSD to larger capacity in the future, you need to find SSD that fit the slim form factor.

lol~I thought Dell Service is the best sad.gif
Anyway thanks for the reply and the guidance along these posts. I'm now feel like buy the Acer V3 full hd ips and use the remaining money to top up SSD will be better than Dell 15R SE and Y500 right? smile.gif

I think my message must have get directed to "don't know where" laugh.gif (if we go to Dell Malaysia business laptop page, when we select a model, there is a "yes, I am interested" button. I clicked that and left a message laugh.gif)
Anyway, my IT bought me the E6430, fully customised to my requirement. That's what you can do if you want to buy Dell business laptop. Go to spec section, look up all the possible spec that Dell allow, copy it down and shot to the online agent.

If you like the V3 FHD, go for it smile.gif It come with 1 year international warranty, but if you want you could also buy warranty extension pack with Highpoint (Acer SC) (2 years for ~ RM200--, iinm).

Yes, SSD is very nice, will greatly enhance user experience smile.gif

Thank you for the recommendation. However, is it okay to have small screen for old people? I thought bigger is better?

Thank you again

Ehh ... I thought you said your mom's eyesight is better than yours laugh.gif icon_rolleyes.gif
Yes, definitely, older people generally prefer bigger screen and bigger font size smile.gif

Unfortunately, in Malaysia, for 17" model, they are generally more like gaming rig rather than multimedia rig (which I think your parent will appreciate more).
You may want to consider this 17":
www.illegear.com
Illegear RE-17, i5-3210M + Nvidia GTX660M + (1920x1080)@RM3499, 4GB, 500(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i5-3210M - i7-3840XM
They are Malaysian selling customisable laptop based on Clevo barebone, and offer good warranty support. One of them, Prince J, has a thread right here in LYN, you can check with him.
The i5 & the GPU is more than enough for your parents usage. Spend the money on getting the best screen (95% NTSC gamut), 8G RAM, 256G Crucial M4 SSD, 3 year warranty, and your parents should have very nice user experience. If they don't like the logo, you can opt out as well. Illegear run some nice promotion from time to time, giving free screen colour calibration (do this for best result for the nice screen), better thermal paste, free RAM upgrade etc (normally during festive season).
If you like something smaller, can go for the RE-15 15".
Illegear RE-15, i5-3210M + Nvidia GTX660M + (1920x1080)@RM3299, 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), FreeDOS [CPU Options: i5-3210M - i7-3840XM][/color]

Something more conventional:
Acer
V3-571G-736b8G1T, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT730M(DDR3) + (1920x1080 IPS) @RM2899[2.6kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8
Asus
N56VZ-S4284H, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M + (1920x1080) + Bluray@RM3699[2.7kg][B&O], 4GB, 1TB, W8; color: black
Dell
Inspiron 15R (Special Edition), i7-3612QM + AMD HD7730M + (1920x1080; anti-glare) + 32GB SSD + 1TB HDD(5400rpm)@RM3199, 8GB, backlit keyboard optional, W8
HP
Envy 15-3204TX, i7-3610QM + AMD HD7750 + (1920x1080 Radiance)@RM4999[2.63kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm)

Prices are RSP, negotiable.
