yes the Y400 has overheating problems as it is a 14" model because the spaces in laptops are narrow so they dont have much cooling area for the hot air to flow. the Y500 however is way more cooler a bit as it has some spaces in the internal. do you prefer Core i7 processor over Core i5 processor? if you dont, the ASUS N56VZ is also a better choice as within 3k budget, you get Core i5 and Nvidia GT650M, or the new Acer Aspire V3 with IPS display, Core i7 and Nvidia GT730M.

Lenovo Y400, i7-3630QM + Nvidia GT650M@RM2799, 4GB, 500GB, W8, 120wPSU, swappable ODD

Use remaining budget to upgrade HDD to SSD, RAM to 8GB, extend warranty to 3 years; and also get an external FullHD monitor for your editing use laugh.gif

What is the resolution and performance of the screen?
I will connect it to 24" Dell monitor, but would love a good screen when I'm not using it at home.

Unfortunately most performance notebooks do not have a good screen (apart from the Alieneware m14x which is out of your budget and ALOT heavier)
Resolution will follow your Dell monitor, but do expect gaming performance to drop if you game at the presumably FullHD resolution nod.gif
Normal performance would be fine~
The screen on the Y400 is average, nothing much to shout about nod.gif

Preferred Brand: Asus/Acer/Dell
Budget: ~RM2000 +-
Usages: Medium Gaming (FIFA13 high details), Work, Photoshop
Preferred laptop/screen size: 14" or 15.6"
Preferred Colors: Red+Black

Great thread for laptop buyers, kudos to you guys here! smile.gif

Need some advices from you sifoos.. had been doing some research lately and am considering Acer V3-471G and Asus A45VS.. but then saw most people recommended Dell Inspiron 14R SE.. in dilemma now! tongue.gif

Questions, hoping to use the laptop for the next 2-3 years (hope can still support FIFA14/15 haha).. should i consider getting the latest model of its brand series or it doesn't matter?

Thanks in advance guys! smile.gif

1. Any, prefer not to have Acer though
2. 1900 - 2500
3. Looking for all-rounder. Portability and decent gaming performance(FIFA, COD, L4D), not concerned with RPGs. A "cool" laptop, temperature wise, will also be plus.
4. 14/15"

Pretty much those 3 for your requirements nod.gif

If ignoring the color and brand requirements, you can consider this one as well:
15.6"
Lenovo Z500, i5-3230M + Nvidia GT645M @RM2299, 4GB, 1TB, W8; backlit, 2 years warranty (4-cell)

Fifa series have never been really graphic demanding, so all those would be alright laugh.gif

ASUS VivoBook S400CA-UH51
Toshiba Satellite U845T-S4165

latter one is slightly faster, lighter, and pricier.

latter one have to wait, how about the customer service/warranty/quality?
might keep the laptop on for long hours.
