Deep sea fishing ?
are you in for the fighting game ,.. are you a risk taker? Losing a fish means a story to tell and share with experience gained
or are you someone must tarpow home or must land the fish?
Also something to think about,.. jigging, bait fishing, popping all require different set of tools and gears.
Sea depth also play a role on what reel size to get.

Reels:
Safest to go with a spinning reel as it is more versatile towards any sort of fishing.
General 30-60m depth i think Size 4000 - 6000 reel is more than enough
if you going really deep and far out,.. you may nee 8000 size and above.

Rods :
Light/Micro jigging requires some sort of very soft tip and strong backbone. Some thing like PE0.5-1.5
Normal jigging for those normal ang cho and teingiri off klang... PE2 - 4 (longer handles to kepit under arm)
Bottom fishing (1 sword kill all) PE3-6
Popping and trolling has similarities ... not sure of that, havent tried.

Ah.... I see Thanks for the reply, now I have a rough idea on how to go about. Rather than listening to the tackle shopkeeper. I currently have a 5000 size reel but I don't think my rod will be able to stand up to offshore fishing. Is it a good idea that I just change my rod and continue using my current reel? Or should I just change the whole set? Thanks. smile.gif

I would like to share with you and others whom are reading this.
I use to buy cheap average reels and I'll throw out their ball bearings and replace them with good ones and I will use them in the sea. Those are spinning reels for jigging. I have ever bought Daiwa Capricon and never used it yet, it's so call branded but not so expensive but still cost around Rm500.00 because those cheap reels didn't break down or fail me till now so I didn't open my Daiwa yet.

If you have a good budget you can land up paying as much as RM3k or more for a spinning reel, these are top notch.

I begin to fall back on cheap average reels, usually made in China or Korea (I can't afford also la) I will reel in big catch out in the wild when some of my friends who can afford it using Penn, Shimano and etc.... bla bla bla. Important thing is the end results.
Also you may not have heard of this, some of my friends were fishing in some remote areas and were robbed of all their equipments and valuables. Even they were 4 of them fishing, the robbers are 8 of them on 4 motorcyles. How sad...

you are right. what's most important is not the gear but rather the enjoyment we get from fishing.

Need to be clear on which part broke or where it broke.
based from what you described, sounds like the joint or the ferrule is damaged
You can find some Rod builders to replace the Ferrule for you, else if the black is damaged then you may need to shorted the rod a lil
Shortening the rod will definitely change the rod characteristic

Megabass reels are based on Daiwa reels. They supertune, lighten and do whatever they do to make them perform better.

Not to forget, you are paying for the name too.

Hence the price.
