The redemption rate is not worth it..
frequent flyers should have a few air miles memberships. .not only enrich...
now I'm starting to collect more kris flyer points for my next year family trip..

Is it better to redeem business class straight from Enrich online+pay taxes or buy economy class then call to upgrade to business class with Enrich miles? Which method is more worthy?

You referring to this? Looks like not that attractive hmm.gif
Especially on non MAS redemption sweat.gif

Yes the Enrich redemption is definitely not very worthwhile for partner redemption. It's a bit retarded to charge 100k Enrich miles one way to book an economy class ticket to Europe.

I book my MH flights to AAdvantage nowadays, far more options for me for the future. At least I can redeem on Cathay or JAL first class without going crazy (67.5k miles one way to US/Europe)

Not all economy class tickets on MH are treated equally, you need to buy a more expensive economy class which allows upgrades using Enrich miles.

Neither are worth it though, I only wait for promo/bonus redemptions now to get anything.

Bro, it is very easy to work it out.

1. Go check how much you must pay for taxes and surcharges if you redeem in full.
2. Then go compare to total cost for Economy ticket and add maybe USD100 max.

Now, as for upgrading, click here to my article A Little Bit Of This and A Little Bit Of That Vol.1, Chapter V, where I mentioned I paid between USD30 to 45 to upgrade my son's and sister's ticket from Paris. And I also mentioned that upgrading is not guaranteed and subjected to availability; so make sure you check before getting the Economy Class ticket.

And like tishaban mentioned below, make sure you check which type of Economy class ticket can upgrade. Few months back, I bought MAS return tickets KL/MEL for next year because it was freaking cheap at RM1.3K+, but since it was a promo ticket, I cannot upgrade using Enrich Miles.

Bro, one of these day I must invite you for lunch and hopefully you can teach me about other airlines' airmiles.

In the meantime, I am more than happy with Enrich because to me it's like FREE, compliments of Maybank.

You might not be aware but the most value for money is to upgrade business class tickets to first class. Of course, you can travel to London or Paris only .

I join AAdvantage because I have US based cards that give me miles on AAdvantage. If you fly a lot on Oneworld though it's definitely worth crediting your miles there though.
AAdvantage redemptions from KL to US is 35k for economy, 55k biz and 67.5k first each way. You can only fly via the Pacific though so that limits your choices to JL and CX.

I'm open to lunch. If you can get tinkerbel to join all the better biggrin.gif

I'm a bit different in the sense that I have access to US based credit cards that give me miles on US based airlines. There's a lot more competition and lots of opportunities. Enrich used to be a lot better back in the day but I've definitely enjoyed the J/F flights I had on MH.

If the forever busy tinkerbel can join for us lunch is like kena lottery, hahaha

Noted, I no longer have any US credit card. And the only Frequent Flyer Card I have is with UA. However, I must add, this year when my son wanted to fly back to KL from New York, AA one way ticket to Paris was USD2K whereas with MAS JFK to KL less than USD1K! Wrote above this in the article I gave link in earlier post.

How Much Are Enrich Miles Really Worth?

user posted image

Travelling by air is rarely considered cheap. Apart from purchasing cheaper tickets during the promotional period, there are other ways to cut back on your travelling cost. You can do so by redeeming your air miles to get free or cheaper tickets, upgrade travel classes and a list of other services.

This is a great way to save money on your travels. Earning miles was previously made available only to frequent travellers to earn frequent air miles to redeem free or cheaper flights on their consecutive flights.

These days, all you need to do is spend on your credit card in cinemas, petrol stations, or grocery stores and earn reward points that can easily be converted into air miles. There are an array of credit cards that are available in today’s market that offer this privilege but these conversion points vary among different credit cards and airlines.

How much is one Enrich Mile really worth?
It is common knowledge that you can stretch the value of your Miles by using them to redeem a long haul flight, and for the more expensive cabin class. Here’s an example to help you calculate the value of each Mile to determine if the redemption is worth your points.

If you are flying to Jakarta from Kuala Lumpur, here is the difference in the Miles values across different cabin classes.

For longer haul flight, like Kuala Lumpur to London, the breakdown is as follows

Great illustration kinabalu, but I thought that the taxes supposed to be paid by Passenger in Cash and not through EM redemption?

Yes, you have to pay surcharge by cash and not EM redemption.

Those info i dig it out from google. not my work though. smile.gif

Get the most out of your Miles

1. Choose the suitable credit card that gives the most value for money

Different credit cards offer different rates to earn a point, which can then be converted into Enrich Miles (depending on the credit card).

Each Ringgit spent could add up to a certain amount of points. It is good to get multiple reward points for every Ringgit you spend but what is more important is how many reward points you need to acquire in order to convert it to air miles! Always look for credit cards that can offer you better air miles with their reward point conversion.

2. Redeem your air miles during non-promotional periods, for less popular travel destinations, more expensive cabin class and long haul flights

Air mile redemption is worth more when ticket prices are expensive during non-promotional periods than when the ticket prices are on offer (for the same destination). During promotional times, you most probably purchase tickets cheaper on your own rather than if you were using your air miles to redeem them.

Also, you would want to use your points wisely by redeeming air miles on less frequented or rarely discounted routes as these routes are usually more expensive and rarely have any promotions. Besides, long haul flights are typically more expensive and it would be more worthwhile to use the air miles rewards for that.

3. Remember to consider tax and surcharges before deciding to redeem your air miles

Air mile redemption is based on just the cost of the ticket, excluding tax and other surcharges. You will have to pay these regardless any promotions or redemptions. So it is always wise to calculate the difference you would pay if you did redeem or did not redeem your air miles reward. This is will tell you if it is worthwhile or not to do so.

Using the formula above, you can easily calculate whether it’s worth it to use your Enrich Miles to redeem the flight you want.

The enrich miles reward system provided by the airlines plays a significant role in your travelling expenses especially when you are an avid traveller, regardless for business or vacation. Enrich Miles also allows you to redeem on a list of best offered services for your travelling convenience. By taking advantage of this system, you could be a step closer to your dream vacation in comfort.
