Hey guys, i just got iphone 5 from Celcom.

Weird things happen,

I live in SS2, my house is at level 10, usually no problem getting 3g, my maxis and digi all got 3g, but my celcom iphone 5 stuck on edge network, reset network settings and everything reboot also useless,

when i go down stair, Ground floor, got 3g signal, i go back up 10 floor 3g network stays on!

But once u turn off 3g and on again it will be gone, stuck on edge!

Do you guys think is iphone issue or network issue?

Test your celcom card with you another phone to eliminate possibility of phone problem
You will need a nano sim adapter for other phones

yes indeed, it is from Celcom. This is really madness, worst then my old IP3GS mad.gif
Going to Celcom to verify is my card insert it properly or not, or the setting is not correct, i guess it is my setting cause the seller maybe wrong setting.

share with you here about Things to Do to Boost Cell Phone Reception or signal.

I am having the exact same problem! I have called Celcom countless times to ascertain the issue but so far no resolution yet. Sometimes when I drive, I get 3G, but I do not use the phone when I drive mad.gif . I never had this problem with Celcom when using my previous iPhone 4.

Does anyone have an update on this issue? Is it the phone? The line? Nobody in Celcom seems to have an answer. vmad.gif

@jason_mufc,
If the problem is only happening when you're at home and not when you're at other places then it must be the network. If it's appearing all the time and at different places then it's the phone!

this also happen to me..
it seem that if the 3G line is too low signal, it will always use EDGE, even where ur place have 3G coverage
it only happen when 3G signal is too low..like mine 2/5 signal bar
there seem like no option to use 3G line only for Iphone5
and i am celcom user..

@tinkerbel: Appreciate the answer. That would be one way to look at it. However, this issue afflicts so many Celcom iPhone 5 users (based on the complaints on this thread). Could it be that all Celcom iPhone 5s have problems?

if you google you will find that it is not exclusively to carrier. it is more likely problem with the device itself. i think need to wait for the latest fix to correct this issue.

@jason_mufc
It is possible that it is a Celcom Network issue; perhaps Celcom is doing something on their end? If they are, there will soon be a new "Network Settings"

@leechers: Wow I didn't know that. My google search only resulted in Celcom complaints haha. There are a handful of DiGi complaints here but no Maxis also innit?

@tinkerbel: Let's hope, because my iPhone 5 has been changed before. The backside metal surface had obvious scratches. Otherwise, the phone works perfect.

it only happen when i at the places with low coverage of 3G
it never happen when i at the high coverage area like at the centre of city

it is the problem of the phone..
it always pick the signal with highest coverage..
in this case is EDGE..
just make report to Apple to add a fix next update..

P/S : if only IPhone 5 have a function like my sony phone that can only choose 3G line T_T

My iphone 5 is good now. What i did was called the celcom customer service and lodge the report and reset network. Im not sure whether it was coincidence or not but anyway it is good now

another thing i might add, the 3g strengths of iphone 5 is not as good as what i experience from my galaxy tab 10.1.

@tinkerbel: Nope, EDGE all the way. Exactly like how Fumakila describes it. When in areas like my house in Sg Buloh, I used to get 3 to 4 bars of 3G. Now only EDGE. When I go to Damansara Jaya yesterday, full 3G. Even can turn off & on.

@fumakila: Does it mean update software? No need to swap phones right?

@leechers: Haha I called 3 or 4 times man. They said they will monitor. Up till now my place still no 3G. When I go out it's ok the 3G quite strong. I even called and asked the guy who sold me the phone. HIs answer was NANO sim is quite unstable at this stage. Try and use a few days and see if it improves. If not come in for SIM swap. If still not fixed, then phone swap. But my hunch is that this is a network + software issue. I think fumakila's explanation might be it. The software now searches for the strongest signal and in my area, that is EDGE, but at my friend's place in DJ, it was 3G. Well, hope it gets resolved soon.

well if it can capture 3g signal then i think you dont have to worry much. plus i suspect iphone 5 does not capture the signal as strong as other device, i comparing with my galaxy tab 10.1 same place, same telco, but galaxy tab 10.1 shows healthy and strong signal compare to iphone 5

@leechers: Exactly! At first I was a bit worried cos no 3G at all. Then when you move to city areas like Damansara and Bandar Utama, the bloody thing picks up 3G, so yes it an capture 3G signal. Previously I used Samsung GS3 and I get H+ all the time so yes I agree IP5's signal capturing not as strong. For our sake I hope an update will resolve this.

No sir, am with Celcom. From past experience Celcom has been quite good with my iPhone 4. This is the first time I am experiencing Network issues with them. Got sick of Maxis' way of overcharging and billing practices.

@jason_mufc,
So when you're home you don't get 3G connectivity but EDGE? Or could it be that it doesn't show that you're on 3G but perhaps your connection is 3G connection? Is that possible?

I live in Sg Buloh too and don't have the same issues as you; then again, I'm on Maxis

another thing i notice is that ios dont have the capability to fix it to only accept 3g/umts signal rather than choosing between edge or 3g/umts.

the same with my galaxy tab 10.1 before, where sometimes it will pick up edge signal, and when i set it to accept only 3g signal, it is good until now.

I using I4s ios5.1.1, having stuck at EDGE problem as well.

Many place i been is running on 3G. But then some time is just stuck at EDGE & will not change to 3G mode.

The only solution is to off & on the 3G mode the solve the problem.

I running on Maxis. Hope to get the problem solve as quite troublesm to on & off.

@tinkerbel: Yes in the past week I have only been getting EDGE but on Celcom. Tried Speet Testing the connection, definitely EDGE speeds. BUT since yesterday midnight I have been getting proper 3G. I think Celcom fixed it. Up till this morning I have 3G connection. Speed Tested it about 2-3MBps lar. Quite decent. My issue is considered solved haha.

PS. U live in Sg. Buloh? Which part? I'm in Rahman Putra smile.gif

Guys,

Mine is iphone5 and since i got it on Sunday the 3G signal will be lost completely and i cant get any data.

Even if i move around to outside or another location few km away still the same problem.

ONLY way to get back 3G is to turn off the phone and turn on again.

THIS SUCKS !!!

I am on Maxis.

Any other bro have similar problem?

hi guys,

i'm on maxis as well.. and sometimes i can't get data to work! have to restart the phone to get the problem solved... others not much problem... still stay with 3G even with no line.. WTF == BUT the data issue is (almost) killing me because no point leaving it on all the time... it'll just drain the battery.

All these 3g connect issues , can it be phone problem itself ?
My iphone 5 sometimes also behave like that. Did a simcard change already
My first iphone. Never faced such issues in my ex HD2 running android
WiFi also poorer than HD2
Why people still so crazy over iphone
Quite dissapointed buying it for now
Hope with greater familiarity I will appreciate it further
And battery life is terrible n need more charges to assess better

After i updated to newest iOS version.

Although the OS update says its for Wifi issue only but it seems to cure the problem.

From my point of view its due to the nano simcard, because when i went to change my hotlink normal simcard to nano simcard the officer at maxis centre told me that they dont let me change to nano because the network instabilty in detecting the nano simcard for hotlink user, i was told to change it next day, and i was able to change it the day after smile.gif

Its about the same as the 4/4s. Yes very fast, even on 3G. My friends in Singapore say with LTE, even more worse. But this is a common problem..quite impossible to pack in a powerful battery in such a slim device.

Try battery doctor app. It somehow optimizes the charging. Gives me about 10-15% more batt life. Its not much but worth 0.99c you pay. biggrin.gif

Probably is sim card issue. Try ask for a new one
If still persists, just hope is not phone problem

Are you using Maxis? You can try to call the telco and let them know your problem, then they will try to troubleshoot it. 2 of my iPhone5 in iOS6.0.2 also face the 3G issue. Maxis able to manually reset the line and this solved my 3G problem. Hope this can help you. Good luck! smile.gif

I'm facing quite a similar issue as well, but it will only happen when i turn off 3G to save battery and let it run on edge. When i switch it back to 3G, it takes sometimes to switch itself to 3G from edge. And the time taken to switch is vary, sometimes fast, sometimes takes a few minutes, and ive tested on iphone 4 which it switched instantly. But when it captured 3G signal, it stays there forever until i turn the 3G off again. I'm with Celcom and the 3G speed is very good at my place, it can go up to +/- 7mbps upstream and +/- 2mbps downstream. But tested with iphone 4, it can only max up to +/- 2mbps downstream. I think Celcom HSDPA max speed is only 7.2mbps (theory) and HSPA+ is 21mbps. Not sure if they already have DC-HSPA...my 2 cents

I have the same issue with DIGI. Whenever i switch from WiFi to 3G/Edge, the phone just would not detect back to 3G/Edge network. Airplane mode didnt help much and the only way is to restart the phone and it is able to pick up 3G again.

Not able to isolate if it is the sim or the phone or DIGI issue:(. Will try "reset network settings" later as the phone is not with me now.

Anyone has any solid solution to solve the issue?

I had the very similar issue and kind of tired of resetting the network or restarting the phone.

Now, the issue solved as I freshly restore the phone as a new phone (previously was restoring from back-up).

I am not sure should this is the absolute solution but at least it is perfectly working for my iPhone 5.

I believe this is not iPhone issue but not sure what the concrete reason behind this matter.

@slid3

I had similar 3G not activating (in fact totally left with no data, not even E icon until reboot phone) until I perform Reset All Settings and problem miraculously gone (not even reset network setting fixes this)

I really had a feeling that this is DiGi related because I'm having the same problem as you.

i went to Maxis Center The Gardens this afternoon, asking them about this 3G lost problem and try to ask for a new SIM card.
They said it is not cause by the SIM card, but blame it on their network upgrading activity which caused the 3G lost.

Hi all, my 3G signal problem on iPhone5 coming back again after few days. Now even weird, while I'm making call, the either the Edge or 3G will disappeared. After I hang up the call, then it will turn to Edge but not 3G. Anyone here face to this issue? Recently Maxis service really so bad!

Frankly, I'm having a problem of iPhone 5 can hardly connect to Celcom 3G.

I had ever requested a new nano SIM from Celcom. Same problem.
My friend's is using DiGi namo Sim on his iPhone 5. No problem
I borrowed my friend's DiGi nano SIM and test on my iPhone 5. No problem
I inserted my Celcom nano SIM into my friend's iPhone 5. Same problem.

Thus, I'm sure there is nothing wrong with iPhone 5. It's Celcom 3G issue with iPhone 5.

I had finally found the solution to Celcom 3G problem on iPhone 5.
The problem is actually the Celcom nano SIM.

I had ever inserted Celcom nano SIM into my iPhone 4S, then my iPhone 4S turned into difficult to switch to 3G.

To end all these problem, just get your nano SIM replaced with either mini SIM or Micro SIM from Celcom. Then trim the replacement SIM into nano SIM size. Insert it into you iPhone 5. Restart your iPhone 5. Here's all the 3G signal problem gone.

Proven on my iPhone 5 with Celcom 3G.

Yes, don't think it is a SIM issue as mine was working prior to upgrading to 6.1
Check out the apple discussion forum, it's a firmware issue.

I am a Maxis user @ 6.1 @ iPhone 5. I'm having same annoying issue. Tried swapping nano sim as suggested by @MaxisListens, but issue remains.

So far, best possible solution is to Reset Network settings. I was so pissed that i was contemplating to port to Celcom. But after seeing this thread, i'm having doubts. Sigh..

At the apple forummer ,some of them already being suggested by thier telco provider not to upgrade to 6.1 first.. There is a bug in 6.1 which affect the connection of 3G.. They already highlight this to Apple.. Lets see what Apple goin to do about it..

Guys, having same problem here. Sibeh dulan. My nano sim card is cut from Micro-sim (iPhone 4/4S). Usually on my old iPhone 4, i on the 3G, immediately effective, the 3G icon will appear immediately.

Now on this iPhone 5, I cut from micro-sim, detect 3G damn slow. i dont know whether its the phone or not. ugh. its always GPRS !

Is it cz of the sim ? I'm on Maxis.

Using iOS 6.1 ? If so, blame the latest firmware. I'm using CELCOM Postpaid plan and I'm experiencing sudden loss of 3G signal while on my Bold (Celcom) , it's getting full 3G speed.

From that article, it is mentioned that the 3G bug is affecting the 4S.
"European Carriers Warn iPhone 4S Users Against iOS 6.1, Requests Not To Upgrade"

Ironically, it is not the 4S which is the main concern here but rather the IP5. My wife's 4S is working fine since the day I got it upgraded to 6.1
The 3G signal couldn't be more stronger.
On the other hand, The 3G on my IP5 keeps playing peekaboo with me since I upgrade it to 6.1

Apple needs to address this bug for the Iphone 5 asap. Period.

iPhone 5 will have to wait.

Sad that Apple only addressed the 3G issue on 4S and nothing for 5 yet.. How often does Apple release software updates for a specific iPhone model? Usually they encompass the whole family of iPhones.

The issue also exists on 5, so I'm surprised Apple only released this for the 4S.

Noticed this too. No wonder my iPhone 4 and other is OK. Looks like it's the antenna problem in iPhone 5 .
Not on celcom network I guess. I think apple should implement the 3g only option.

No wonder people jump ship !!!

3g is always full using the same Sim on the other phone. But always or most of the time on edge when put in iPhone 5.

i had this problem most of the time. after turn on data & 3G i must quickly launch Safari to load some pages so it'll quickly switch to 3G from edge. sometimes it'll suddenly switch back to edge for no reason and when i toggle the 3G it went to "No Service". wait loh... i'm still at 6.1. don't dare to update yet

If this fail then restarting your phone would be the best choice...

Got my phone on Dec last year, it was IOS 6.01 then, the next day already got this problem already, so I just reset the phone to get back the cellular data connectivity.
this Feb updated to IOS 6.1, the problem persisted....
last week updated to 6.1.2, so far already encountered twice the no cellular data issue....

im using a maxis iphone 5 set with celcom sim card....

when i first get it, it was totally rosak...whenever i on my 3g, instantly my CELCOM becomes "No service"...and no internet service...

but once i set the 3G OFF, i am forced to use Edge, and everything was ok...
i hv tried EVERYTHING...n even made a post here asking for help...all useless for me...proven dy faulty phone. (and it was sealed when i got it)

now after 1 to 1 exchange phone with maxis...my new phone works perfectly, everywhere i go sure gt 3G, except some parts near shah alam area n some parts in mont kiara...but i think thats becoz of celcom coverage only...

no, what i means is that if you switch to manual instead of auto, it will be easier for you to use aeroplane mode to get back connectivity rather then restarting your phone always. Before this, when i was using auto mode i cant get back connectivity by switching on/off aeroplane mode instead need to restart the phone. After switch to manual, aeroplane mode on/off makes it easier to get back connectivity but it does not resolve the connection issue...is still occur but is easier to get it back with manual mode only

Seriously guys have you tried to remove the casing and leave the phone naked and see how the connection goes?

last week i have disconnection problem when tethering. i had to connect and reconnect the cable everytime.

In the house with wifi also most of the time the phone cannot switch to wifi quickly like before when i reached home from work. Sometime it doesnt automatically connect to my home wifi at all.

Then one day i removed that stupid bumper casing and left phone naked. Now i dont have DC or wifi problem anymore.

i have the same issue, i tried to go Setting, Carrier setting, turn off automatic and choose the telco i using, it going normal.. if it can't fix permanently, then i think that is the way to reset the reception instead of turning phone on off or airplane mode.

Just got my set changed, from a new phone, changed to a SEED model. When i asked whats a SEED model, Maxis stuff said its 98% new, 2% recon. wtf.

Anyways, using the phone out of the box as of 7PM till now, (11.35PM) everything is well, 3G fukin fast, gets connected very fukin well. Doing an update to 6.1.2 before restoring my data and contacts.

Wanted to just use the phone as new, but contacts damn problem. Gotta update if not wont know who's calling.

After update, if 3G problem persists, then can confirm that its really software.

My problem was going on for 3 years with Celcom. First the blame the phone then the sim and now they say they are investigating. It is area specific. I believe at certain spot the 3G and Edge network is unstable or just a blind spot.

I am talking about a place that in the golden triangle. I have no issues near my home area. If they cant even get 3G right then what's the point having LTE. Is MCMC ever conduct a quality check or wait for complaints to drop in their inbox.

One another note, read this response from Celcom:-

QUOTE
Celcom CS (Employee) 1 month ago

Terima kasih.

I told him my 3G problem, can't receive calls and I just added some stuff that I don't have a clear connection and stuff. The Maxis Staff actually understands and he never really complained cz he also understands that its a persisting iPhone 5 problem.

I updated to 6.1.2 from the 6.0.2 SEED set that i just got.
It's the software i can confirm because prior to updating as i mentioned above, I can get good signals, and able to detect 3G immediately. After updating, shit comes back. fuk.

The best way now is to switch from auto mode to manual mode when finding ur telco. Do note that this doesnt enhance 3G connection it only increases the possibility to detect 3G after turning on and off the airplane mode.

Lastly, I reconfirmed with the maxis guy again and he said to me that the problems current network problems iPhone 5 users are facing now is also partly maxis's fault as they are consistently having problems with iPhone 5's network. Other telcos work as well. he summed up to me:

50% maxis problem, 50% iOS update.

Hi any Maxis user gets an SMS from 22105 today?

The msg content is as below :

RM0. Anda telah terima konfigurasi telefon yang terbaru. Sila padam dan hidupkan semula telefon anda

It sounds like a fraud to me. or is it really a fix for the 3G issue?

You should stick with the older firmware.

I'm kinda surprised that the refurbished set is having the ios 6.0.x still

I've more than that speed if under best 3G coverage area.

Here are the emails Celcom responded to me.

QUOTE
In response to your concern on the network quality, we have taken immediate action to communicate with our network technical team for them to conduct necessary test. Our investigation unveils there are low 3G coverage at your area.

Subsequently, appropriate recommendation for a new site has been put forward to the respective department for their deliberations and next course of action.

We were made to understand that one of our officials has contacted you and briefed further on the matter.

It is hoped that the above could clarify the situation and we appreciate your kind understanding in this circumstance.

Here is another email after I replied.

On that note, we regret to inform that there is no plan for expansion at this juncture, however, appropriate recommendation has been put forward for consideration, perhaps/be included in the future plan.

We hope that the above will clarify the situation.

It is a pleasure serving you and we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and contribution to Celcom.

I think MCMC aka SKMM should release the license for 3G on GSM 900MHz too, so that we can have better 3G.

And also LTE on 1800MHz and 2100MHz.

Otherwise we must be always got poor coverage, or more tower to be built (people will protest more).

Is the reason you update to 6.1.2 so you could restore the phone with your previous backup?
Because as far as I know, you can't restore a backup with a newer firmware to a phone with an older one

Else if I were you I would have stayed at 6.0.x smile.gif

When I got the phone its new set. So gotta wanna restore backup using iTunes.
iTunes only allow backup to be restored from my previous phone to current phone only if I update the firmware of current phone.
So update lor.

But I know my risk before updating. But upon weighing, my contacts are more important. Cz i need to use the phone everyday.
ANyways, anyone updated to 6.1.3 ?

Encountering the same issue. It runs well within the 3G coverage in Msia but after it disappears, it will not come back on, meaning stuck without 3G. The phone needs to be manually reboot in order to get the 3G back, same place with my ip4 has full bar !!

I am wondering if IOS or iphone5 is screwed up or our local telco supplier/ MAXIS screwed up?

When call them, they say Apple fault as it is software/ IOS related .. Rather sickening to turn on/off just to get a stupid 3G signal, which i am paying for .. sometimes, wondering would the Kimchi competitor better...

This is very much a maxis issue now.

Last time when I first got my IP5(End of last year) I do not have this prob. That was with iOS 6.0 firmware.
Then after I upgraded to 6.1, the prob started. So obviously I would think this is due to the firmware.

Earlier today, I just got my replacement set with iOS 6.0.2 and guess what, this 3G bug is there.
So the conclusion is - its not the firmware but Maxis.
I asked the staff and they themselves admitted its not due to the firmware and they said Maxis is looking into it.
We'll see

After i spend a lot of hours figuring why our 3G connection on iphone 5 sux badly, i read from the net, it happen to all iphone 5 all around the world. So i can conclude that either iphone 5 athena is damn weak n sux, or it could be software bug. I hope it is the later. Any phone i got hav no problem staying in 3g xcept ip5. Also wat sux is we cant choose a 3G only option like bb phone or android phone. Demm im pissed.

Strongly believed it wasnt maxis as im on celcom, also faced this issue. Many of my colleague that r using celcom with their iphone 5 are hving similar problem. So it is either hardware problem like athena dem sux or software on ip5.

Im trying to find a way on how to lock/force 3g only, do u guys have any ideas on how to do it? I already jb btw.

I love the phone but this issue is stupid. I cant enjoy a good internet speed like this. My bb curve n xperia z got no issue at all with 3G, always can get 5-6mbps. But iphone5 keep using E, always need to toggle airplane mode. It getting annoying.

It could be either both. Try using the SIM card on another phone to test it. If the other phone works then surely it's the iPhone problem.

I just bought my iPhone 5 last friday from celcom. My iPhone uses a proper nano sim from celcom, while my one x uses a micro sim cut from a Celcom normal sim. Enabled 3G on settings in iPhone but this happened. Rebooted/airplane mode multiple times but to no avail. Any tips?

P/S: signal not strong enuf is BS coz my one x is riding on HSDPA all the time. Don't even have to force it in the settings. This is the only thing thats stopping me from enjoying my iPhone as a daily driver so if you have any tips, do share.

I googled about Auto3G and from what i can understand, it turns off 3G when you lock your phone to conserve battery life. Can we actually use it to force iPhone to connect to 3G all the time? Like how android can force the modem to connect to 3G/HSDPA?

BTW do you happen to know any good theme sites? So far only Jaku catches my eye. The last apple product i JB'd was an ipod 2G so its been a very long time. No idea what happened to the theming scene (long live Dulce theme)

For those who are not jailbreaker's. maybe you want to try these method.

Go to Settings
1. Carrier - used manual selection (select your service provider)
2. General>Cellular - Always switch on 3g. ONLY switch off cellular. DO NOT need to switch off 3g selection if you doesn't need 3g or you want to safe battery power.

Mine works well now. smile.gif

I mean for those doesn't need edge or 3g service. they don't need to switch off the 3g selection. switching off the cellular service will do.

Auto3g will not run smooth after a few reboot. Mine have problem. Maybe is just me?

these are what I faced after installing Auto3g.

After reboot. the 3g selection is not working because of that even the IP5 unit able to obtain an IP I'm not able to surf the internet or whatever because the 3g cannot turn on.

anyway! my method will do you no harm because you don't need to JB your unit because of the auto3g.

Just sharing. smile.gif

A few thought regarding this 3G issue on iphone 5. At first i believed that iphone 5 has a very poor athena that give a weak 3G signal thus lead to the signal frequently switch to edge. But after i used auto 3g app, which enable me to force the 3G signal, i can conclude that the athena was fine actually. The problem i guess must be something to do with iphone 5 software that prefer 2G/edge over 3G when 3G signal is slightly lower than 2G/edge signal. To those who faces this problem, for me i personally recommended this auto 3g app. It worth it.

Running Auto3G (Cydia Tweak) on iPhone 5, iOS 6.1. I can confirm that the force 3G option works, FULL BAR. Why the hell this was a problem in the first place, i dont even know. WTH Apple?

Actually I have all my idevice's jail-broken because I used Sbsetting, Zephyr, Weekillbackground. I found these tweak are a must for idevice. But it happened Auto3g just couldn't work after a few reboot?

As for me I don't always switch on 3g or even used Edge because I have ipad mini to received my email/whatsapp/Tango etc.... I only turn on 3g when I wanted to used, by doing so my IP5 battery lifespan are much longer. by turning on/off all the time the 3g sometime won't work. it will stock at edge. After testing not switching off the 3g selection and only used the cellular on/off method. It works well now.

Anyway! I'm just sharing here. It doesn't method for me anyone would like to try it or not.

Great to hear that auto3G helps but too bad 6.1.3 cannot be jb to download this app.
But please take note of following when you are using this apps
- would it damage system as it is forcing the nominal bandwidth to the maximun to get 3G, not sustaining its actuall optimization to get that bandwidth
- would it be increase of higher RF signal thus more gamma/radiation as it is again forcing its operating parameters to search & auto 3G settings?
Dont worry, i am not an apple employee .. smile.gif .

My 3G in iPhone5 works charming now. No longer losing 3G or Edge and easily get back 3G when came out from basement. No using any Cydia Tweaks or anything, just original. Maybe the Maxis really done the upgrading work. smile.gif

Mine also seems to be rather stable today. Was using the Auto3g tweak all this while to lock the 3G from going to Edge. Now turn it Off d, and everything is stil running fine.

Were you experiencing this 3G bug before?

What I did just now:
Click setting
Click Carrier
Off Automatic
Wait a moment until you see a list of telcos
Choose the telco of your simcard (in my case i choose My Celcom)
Click On Airplane mode
Click off airplane mode
Immediately the Edge change to 3G

Maxis is currently undergoing tests by Apple for their LTE network support and if they passed everything, Apple will release software update to enable i5's LTE setting. I also feel that my 3G improved. Places where most phone only getting EDGE networks, this guy still can get 1 bar of 3G. And usually after entering places with no service, have to reboot phone to get Internet but now I got 3G straight away. But when turn on data still stuck at EDGE for a while......

So... Is the Celcom problem or the iphone5?

My 3G can stuck for awhile only.. Always back to edge. But using the same phone in Taiwan and Singapore there is no such problem.

Should report to Celcom? Cos no point report to apple... They are useless junk working there.

Anyone does have issue with Maxis data signal recently that if you are out of 3G or Edge connection (no network on mobile or data) and then reenter into location has coverage (mobile or data), you can't get back data connection (either edge or 3G)?

What you have to do is, off the phone and switch on again to get back data signal?

Thats it ! it settles the issue...

I was having so much trouble with it...imagine that i need to restart the phone everytime i come out from the lift....gila !

Thanks for sharing.

I filed complaint to Maxis and they checked and mentioned no network issue.

Second time, walked to Maxis center and showed them the issue. Few days later they feedback is iPhone 5 issue and they will feedback to iPhone for bug fix rclxub.gif rclxub.gif rclxub.gif

I don't think this issue is due iOS issue. I was with uMobile 2 weeks ago and I didn't have this issue. 100% is maxis issue but they blamed iOS.

I am on Maxis and recently picked up a iP5 -- I've been having trouble with dropped data network. Noticed that in some areas (with weaker data connectivity), my phone would swap between LTE and 3G. After awhile, I would lose data completely -- data will not return after turning off/on Airplane Mode; MUST turn off/on my device.

Network: MY MAXIS
Version: 7.0.3

I've googled extensively and have yet to find an acceptable solution. This thread was one of the hits that came up in my search. As some folks have suggested, I'm trying the method of leaving my carrier settings to Manual (as opposed to Automatic), and will revert back later next week to determine if this problem has been resolved.

Here's an interim update.

Over the weekend, I updated to 7.0.4 and maintained my network setting to Manual. So far, I experienced data drop once and Airplane mode OFF/ON managed to fix this (as how I'd reset network in my previous iP4S).

However, this data is less accurate as I was not in my work area over the weekend -- I tend to need to restart my phone at least 1-2 times daily in my work area as the data tends to switch between LTE and 3G (which I suspect causes the dropped network, and failure to reconnect).

So far so good this morning. Will update again in 1-2 days time.

So far, I have noted no dropped data since 7.0.4 update. Also, I have not needed to reset phone since switching from Auto to Manual network selection.

For those who are facing similar issues as I was previously, I would strongly suggest that you try out this method.

Day 4 with no recurrence of problem. I consider this solved. Hopefully, my responses were able to help others who might have drifted to this thread.
