Guys.. i just got my nexus 7 yesterday. My friend bought it for me from US.

I was shocked when testing my nexus 7. The screen is very washed out. It looks rather dull compared to my galaxy nexus. Everything on the screen just looks too 'white'. Do you guys think mine could be a faulty unit? I thought nexus 7 was supposed to have superb screen? I have tried turning it on and off.. and have run couple of apps on it. The screen just stays washed out and dull.

Do you think I can request for an exchange at malaysia asus center?
*
First time i received mine,my thought same as u,maybe the unit is faulty, look so dull color compare to galaxy nexus n 7.7.
but then i got try several test unit at lowyat hotspot,it just the same.so,final word it is the same display in dull n not vibrant.accepted it,use for a week ok adi with the color.
Unless ur unit had a "washed out" issue, google it u will know.but try few unit 1st to make it is same or urs really got prob.

No,Asus centre wont exchange for u.u need to bring back to the place/retailer where ur unit bought.unless it is cant repairable like uncle benny case only they replace new unit.

you can get the Google Nexus 7 toolkit (google it)...use option 2,1 to backup all your apps..it doesnt need you to root or unlock your bootloader...then manually backup your internal storage files to your PC..done. everything is backed up smile.gif

Experience at SC? Pretty good. They fixed my Screen Lift & busted speaker issue for FOC...the screen lift issue they replace the whole LCD and speaker replace new one - till now no issues (already about 1 month since fixed). Took about 4-5 days to get it done..pretty efficient!
*
Ok I will tty backup using toolkit..

What do I need to bring to SC? Which SC do you go? Did they check the unit is rooted or not?

How to spot screen lift?

last time benny brought it with rooted and unlocked bootloader they still honor warranty..but not sure if they will everytime..best u relock bootloader and unroot first before sending in...i sent to Lowyat one..its at 4th floor if i recall correctly...just bring ur unit and ur warranty card, there should have the serial number. Screen lift should be on left side, there's a small 1 - 2 mm "lift" between the screen and the bezel..very minor but u can press the screen onto the unit and it might produce a "creaking" sound...minor problem but can be annoying if u have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) tongue.gif

i find the nexus 7 screen totally ok, the colours might not be as vibrant as some of the other device (like samsung) but i find the colours more natural and pleasing. to me i prefer more natural colours.

Yea .. I'm used to my galaxy nexus screen which is more vibrant compared to nexus 7. Hopefully I will get used to it after some time but I'm always juggling between my phone and my tablet.

Weird, suddenly the cracking sound disappeared. Do I still need to send to SC to get speaker replacement?

Samsung displays are known to be vibrant, regardless of make and model. Even their computer LCDs/LCD TVs have vibrant colors. Some like it, however some prefer natural and realistic colours like me, since I take photos a lot and am 'obsessed' with colour accuracy.

I like the nexus display color... natural... like movie... we are spoiled by shop display high contrast & high saturation... even in my S3 I change the screen mode to natural.

+1. I change my Note II display to natural too. biggrin.gif Another top notch advantage is the crisp text even in very small font. I can read a pdf e-mag in full 1 page view much easier than on the Tab 7.7 although the Tab 7.7 has a slightly larger screen. Will discard some big gameloft/ea games that i dun play often to make way for books and mags. thumbup.gif

Right ; the N7 is very good and I would say is the best tablet to date I have used for reading e Books. It beats the ipad mini in this. If ebooks is important, i dont see any better 7 incher tablet than this
The display quality one gets used to it gradually over the days. Some likes it immediately while some don't. I am the latter but have got used to and accepted it by now

It's actually not Samsung's fault to make over saturated screen. It's the Super AMOLED Technology itself.
All OLED/AMOLED screen has color gamut over 100% in which most IPS only around 80 or less than 80%, only professional ones has near to 100% color gamut but it won't go over that.

And your statement says samsung is known for overly-saturated screens because Samsung is the one manufacturing Super AMOLED for mobile devices and sell to other brands like Motorola and Nokia etc. laugh.gif if youg et what I mean.
