All my data will be erased when sending to sc?
*
backup just to be safe but you MUST tell them not to format or erase anything when you send to SC. I did that and my data was intact when I got my n7 back from ASUS SC

Ok.. How to do full backup? I mean backup everything inside my nexus including apps.

Do I need to un-root my nexus 1st?

Do I need to bring whole package to school?

Mind sharing your experience at Asus sc?
*
you can get the Google Nexus 7 toolkit (google it)...use option 2,1 to backup all your apps..it doesnt need you to root or unlock your bootloader...then manually backup your internal storage files to your PC..done. everything is backed up smile.gif

Experience at SC? Pretty good. They fixed my Screen Lift & busted speaker issue for FOC...the screen lift issue they replace the whole LCD and speaker replace new one - till now no issues (already about 1 month since fixed). Took about 4-5 days to get it done..pretty efficient!

Guys.. i just got my nexus 7 yesterday. My friend bought it for me from US.

I was shocked when testing my nexus 7. The screen is very washed out. It looks rather dull compared to my galaxy nexus. Everything on the screen just looks too 'white'. Do you guys think mine could be a faulty unit? I thought nexus 7 was supposed to have superb screen? I have tried turning it on and off.. and have run couple of apps on it. The screen just stays washed out and dull.

Do you think I can request for an exchange at malaysia asus center?

benny says that it has the worst screen ever on a tablet..at least one of the worst i guess..to me i dont really notice it..maybe cos i'm color blind tongue.gif

Ok I will tty backup using toolkit..

What do I need to bring to SC? Which SC do you go? Did they check the unit is rooted or not?

How to spot screen lift?
*
last time benny brought it with rooted and unlocked bootloader they still honor warranty..but not sure if they will everytime..best u relock bootloader and unroot first before sending in...i sent to Lowyat one..its at 4th floor if i recall correctly...just bring ur unit and ur warranty card, there should have the serial number. Screen lift should be on left side, there's a small 1 - 2 mm "lift" between the screen and the bezel..very minor but u can press the screen onto the unit and it might produce a "creaking" sound...minor problem but can be annoying if u have OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) tongue.gif

for those with some minor annoying lags (caused by the mmc/ssd), try lagfix (requires root):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?...edmonkey.lagfix

This improves my n7 and also gnex speed back to stock when i first got it.

So if I flash kernel,I must clear my cache and data right?and also, can I flash kernel while on custom rom?if I want back stock kernel, just install stock zip right?
*
i usually clear cache and dalvik just to be safe although it may not be necessary. if you use custom rom, they usually have their own kernel so everytime u flash the custom rom or a new nightly for that rom, it will revert back to that custom rom's kernel - you then have to reflash your kernel if you're using a custom kernel outside of that custom rom of course smile.gif

I know where's the cache, but where's the dalvik?so that means aokp has their own kernel?
*
go to your custom recovery (either CWM or TWRP) and click clear dalvik cache...it should be pretty easy to find that option to clear it...i'm using TWRP btw, CWM can't recall where it was..look around in the menus, you'll find it smile.gif

For those who have problem with their battery just shutting off unexpectedly at a much higher percentage (say 20% or even higher - 60% like me), shutdown your tablet. Leave it alone for few hours. Then start it back up, the battery should be at a much lower level..you can then repeat (but charge it a little first), then you should be at the right level. i'm still testing this for the second round but the first round (from 60% went to 20% works fine..no longer will u stay at 100% for many many hours).

So backup is permanent if we don't delete it?then that's OK to me
*
dude..u dont seem to understand the concept here..its very simple:

CWM - Allows you to backup ONLY to internal nexus 7 storage. It eats up a fair bit (2gb or so at least) of your storage
TWRP - ALlows you to backup to EITHER internal nexus 7 storage OR an external storage such as a pendrive if you use the USB-OTG cable.

As benny mentioned, purpose of backup is for you to keep just in case anything go wrong you can restore to the same state as it was before. For CWM, since it takes up your precious Nexus 7's internal storage, it is not so desirable to use CWM..so the best is to use TWRP, get a usb-otg cable and a pendrive, backup to external storage - you won't "lose" any storage on your nexus 7..you will only "lose" storage in your pendrive..comprende? Simple right?

I know what he mean, losing space is OK to me,I still got 9gb free space,no worries for me
*
this may sound very finicky but best not to use the term "losing space" because you don't lose it..you can delete it if you need..the more accurate term is "use space" or "eat up space". Its up to you if you're OK with using internal storage, its a matter of personal preference also. For me, i prefer using a pendrive cos I can have a lot of nandroid backups and just in case for some reason one of them fails or is a broken one, I can restore to another one..with the limited amount of internal storage, you can only backup so much before you have to clear some of your backups. Food for thought smile.gif

shocking.gif cant believe i see this kind of comment. looks so retarded.

didnt you read the features of the rom? its always written in the first post of the xda thread
if it doesnt have the feature you want then why waste time download flash it?
*
haha..not only that...you could always just flash another rom...unless for some reason he din backup his last rom or apps, that's why he regretted?
