Thank you for inquiry. For basic online streaming, H8 will be sufficient. If you would like to have better device which could playback bluray files and better video quality then we will recommend Q16 Quad core instead.

Please capture the screen via your Hand Phone and sent to my email nicety@penangapps.com, let me have a look.

To better navigate the files, please try to use ES explorer which I have preinstalled for you.

Being called upon by Nicety, I would like to share the steps to root your himedia box Q16 Quad Core, and it is applied to Q5 Quad Core too.
Whoever using Quad Core box and firmware version 1.0.7, please stop trying the
root method on post #1017 in this thread, you would be in deep shit like what I did. Ok, here are the steps to root:

Below rooting steps are collection information I gathered from various sources on net and my 2 weeks time spent
on trial and error deep shit process. If you happen that your box is bricked, don't FUCK me.!! Go buy another new set from Nicety.

1.) If your Q16/Q5 Quad Core box is purchased from Nicety, not from taobao or directly brought from Mainland
China, then read on, you would have a big leap in rooting process, you can root your device in a simpler way if
not....

2.) Get a USB drive, file system must be FAT32, download root package file from here, unpack it, save it to a
directory you name it,my case is "C:\root_unroot" and then copy those unpacked files to your USB drive root
directory.

3.) Power up your box, plug your USB drive into USB 3.0 port, DO NOT plug into USB 2.0 port. Dont' ask me why, I don't understand what's the logic behind, I've never tested it by plugging into USB 2.0 port to root, and since I'm too eagerly to get my box rooted, I don't want to try as I have had enough deep shit so far. You can try it out on your own and feedback here smile.gif

4.) In your media box, click on dev tools app, look for the settings "USB debugging", select that option

5.) Now leave your box alone, switch to work on PC. Make sure your box and PC must be connected within the same LAN same subnet, a lot sources on internet giving out the warning that using adb shell, the PC must be use LAN wired, wireless would fail. I can assure you, wireless connection in PC give no whatsoever error or interruption in connecting adb shell between PC and media box.

Ok, In PC, open up the command prompt, navigate to root package file directory, my case C:\root_unroot, type "adb connect <himedia_box_IP>:5555, hit enter key.
i.) c:\root_unroot> adb connect 192.168.1.10:5555 <enter>
ii) command prompt will show connecting/starting daemon blah..blah..blah, wait you see the message "connected to <your_himedia_box_IP>
iii) C:\root_unroot> adb shell <enter> and you'll see the adb prompt like "root_Hi3798CV100:/#"

6.) Now we need to check our USB drive mounted path name. key in command "mount" and hit enter key
You'll see one whole chunk of text, look for text line something like this "/mnt/sda/sda1 vfat", your device may be different from mine, jot it down, that's the path we need later.

7.) We navigate to the USB drive. In adb shell, key in "cd /mnt/sda/sda1" and hit enter

8.) To view the files that you copied to USB drive root directory in step(2), key in "ls" and hit enter, you'll see a list of files:
adb.exe
su
SuperSU.apk
root.sh
and etc.....

9.) Now, this is the important step, time to get your divcie ROOTED. key in "./root.sh" and hit enter, you'll see the message "root finish...System will be restarted in 3 second...", your himedia box should be rebooted.

10.) Afer finished booting, open the app "SuperSU", the app should prompt you to update binary file, select ok, and then it prompts you install in "normal" or "WTCM"..can't really remember, just select "normal". SuperSU will download and install the rest.

11.) To verify if your device is successfully rooted, go to play store and download the app called "Root Checker". You will happy to see the green text telling you that your device has root privilege.

In step(1), I said the rooting steps above are only applied to device from Nicety, if you purchase from Taobao and its manufacture date earlier than Oct 2014, then you need to spend another 20 over bucks to purchase TTL cable, you can get it in lelong site. Why you need TTL cable for china version device, well, himedia staff is too strict to china local users, himedia has disabled the adb function and root privilege, as well as USB debugging. That TTL cable is to unlock it. However, to use TTL cable on himedia box, you need open up the box, your box warranty surely voided, think before you do or you may consider do it after warranty period over.

QUOTE(asciii @ Dec 10 2014, 01:03 PM)
nicety, thanks for remoting in to check on the 7.1 truehd issue the other day.

you mentioned that only the normal truehd 7.1 is supported by Q16.

TrueHD 7.1 Atmos is not supported by Q16.

Question:
1. How does one know whether it is running normal 7.1 true hd or Atmost truehd?

2. Can a feature request be raised to himedia to include truehd atmos in new firmware?

Thanks
*
Dear Customer,

After long waiting, Dolby TrueHD Atmos Passthru finally fixed in the firmware 1.0.8.

Both Q5 and Q16 quad core are available in the Skydrive already, if you need Atmos, please download and upgrade the firmware as per step by step guide in the Skydrive.

Below are the change log for firmware 1.0.8
1). Fix Dolby Atmos True-HD unable to passthru
2). Fix 3rd part Live TV screen ratio in HDP, TVAPK
3). Fix compatibility issue of some source content such as OBS Oh! My God, Ment.ts (Korean Movie)
4). Fix MangoTV h.265 movies black screen problem
5). Fix the problem when switch 4K to 180P resolution
6). Fix the problem of Thor: The Dark World BDMV at 6minutes 41second
7). Enhanced Blu-ray 3D compatibility
8). Fix some MG launcher user interface bugs

P/S : As usual, if you satisfy with current firmware, please do not upgrade. Unless you have the above mention issues in the change log.

what is the different between Q5 ii firmware 1.07 and 1.09?i tried 1.09 but no root and latest MangoTV..i used 1.07 and it automatically rooted my Q5 ii..i used the box for XBMC and other apps..chinese apps no use to me...

Can use PC that connected to the same wireless network with your android box.Copy su and Superuser.apk and put the same folder with adb or navigate to the folder. I use Macbook and download SDK for Mac and do some modification to the terminal(google it).

adb connect your_himedia_ip_address:5555
adb root
adb remount

adb push su /system/bin
adb push su /system/xbin
adb push Superuser.apk /system/app
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/bin/su
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su

And finally, reboot your HiMedia Android TV box with this command:
adb shell reboot (or reboot your device)

Bro, the link you given is confusing. To install the Google play no need to root the device. I have ready Google play patch in the sky drive, just follow the step by step instruction in the skydrive.

In my firmware Upgrade guide, I have explained there is two type of firmware for Q5II. The first is simple UI which eliminate Mango Launcher. The second firmware is Mango Launcher firmware.

Simple UI firmware stop at version 1.0.7, if you need only Xbmc, 107 should be sufficient. By the way, kodi 14.1 is more stable then Xbmc 13.

Mango Launcher firmware upto 1.0.9, the Google play store could be obtain from the googleplay patch. NO need to root.

Anyhow, if you would like to root Q5II due to other purpose, pls reference to thread #1017 as below link :

Dear Customers,

It is confirmed Unify, maxis and time has throttled MangoTV, the maximum speed could get is less than 1Mbps. To watch MangoTV, pls start the China VPN app to bypass the trotlling as mentioned in the getting started email.

Alternatively, you could use other preinstall apps to watch Chinese TV series and movies
