Thank you AVFAN for the sharing.

Dear Customers,

It's time for the upgrade to KODI Helix 14. If you are not technical savvy, does not matter. This is the value added service we gave you. I have uploaded the KODI APK file and "5 steps quick upgrade XBMC to KODI" guide in my skydrive. You can get your KODI ready as easy as copy files only, the configuration included BBTS and XBMCTORRENT as shared by AFVAN. Enjoy!
*
there is now kodi 14.0 helix beta3!
i updated today, didn't see any significant change; probably just some bug fixes.

bbts live tv is surely good, enjoying it.

xbmctorrent is tricky. i barely got it to work on q16 but quite happy about it in the end.
but i can't get it to work on q5ii; hope q5iii can work like q16.
the problem is complex. if interested, read my long post#953.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3139601/+940

will post this in Q16 thread as well.

i hv q16 quad on 1.0.6 and q5ii dual on 1.0.8.

spmc is a fork of xbmc. i tried it on q5ii, it works but i found it unstable, crashing. so i reverted to xbmc 13.2 and now kodi 14.0 beta2.
xbmc 13.1, 13.2, kodi 14.0 beta2 are all stable on q5ii.

q16, xbmc 13.1 and 13.2 are not very stable, crashing. kodi 14.0 beta2 is stable for q16. kodi (but not xbmc) can take new addon bbts 1000 live tv channels. tested it quite a bit, it is a great addon to have, the best live tv addon there is - usa, uk, italian, french stations... plus concerts, news, documentaries, history channel, travel channel, food network, etc., etc.

i do not know if the differences in performance of xbmc, spmc and kodi are due to brand, model, dual/quad or firmware or something else but i would think q5iii quad should be the same as q16 quad for kodi as the specs r the same except for emmc size.

i do not know if spmc addons/settings will migrate to kodi like it does with xbmc when u install kodi (a folder named org.xbmc.xbmc will migrate and get renamed org.xbmc.kodi). kodi now seems to be giving cold shoulders and understandably so, to ex-xbmc spinoffs like xunity.
that is actually good so that u dun need to set up all over again; just remove xbmc (or spmc?) app when satisfied with kodi.

yr concern is about playback via xbmc lagging... this i can't comment as i dun do local hdd playback on xbmc (understand u do that for extras like logos, get subs) i always use native player which works very well incl iso/bdmv/dtshdma. for q16 native local playback, pressing menu button on remote gives a photoshop quality setup option where u can define yr own picture quality parameters.

Bro, if you refer to playback movies from local HDD in XBMC, then you use the wrong player already. Himedia strength is supporting wide range of audio and video codec, local playback should use Himedia native player as mentioned by AFVAN. XBMC is not the right player to play local movies because it does not have Hisilicon codec acceleration. Please use XBMC for online streaming and Live TV.

I have Q5II with firmware 1.0.8. Need help with a few problems.

1. I enabled VPN with L2TP (Settings > Wireless & Networks > VPN) and when I tried to connect, it shows Connecting for 2s and disconnect. No issue with my Android phone. Any ideas?

2. The original Google Play Store provided works fine but somehow, it will update itself. Then all future installations will cause the Play Store to terminate. Had to uninstall the Play Store's updates to make it work. Any clue how to solve this?

r u nicety's customer?
if u bought from other seller, best to get the seller's help.
xbmc or kodi can be a real b**** if u dun know how.

anyway, for bbts livetv, i suggest u read and watch the suggested videos mentioned in posts #910-939 xbmc-kodi thread at least.
u can tell from the posts some users struggled with it but got it in the end.
https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/3139601/+900

i assure u q5ii or q16 (and by inference, q5iii) can take kodi 14.0 helix beta2 or beta3, have bbts live tv working.
looking forward to epl live matches this sat on skysports 1 and 5. wink.gif

iStream is not compatible with kodi at the moment. Pls wait for a while until istream release the compatible version.

This is the second time since September. Out of quota of China traffic. Really terrible service.

this, i believe is the root problem.

unifi's explanation "we r seeing increase in china traffic" = the bandwidth they paid for is too small but seems reluctant to get more, pay more. if that is true, then users paying for 20mbps or higher for china sites will just be wasting money...

there r many types of vpn...
some free ones work a bit better but can't get stream smoothing from china also.
paid ones probably work better.
i m also searching for a viable one since this unifi problem is not going away.
as it has happened twice already, they dun seem to be bothered.
it looks like like those wanting china sites can forget unifi or pay extra for vpn.

since streamyx is fine, any maxis fiber or time fiber user here who can comment?
may be forced to change isp if one simply wont work and the others can.

q5ii does support vpn if native vpn is used.
i tried one, it connects but not good for china sites.

but think u r right that some vpns using apks may not work on this model.
i tried one, can't get thru, something not right abut the kernel... or rooting required...?
