er... dont you thinks u too fast thinks for upgrade? since it's your precious bicycle...

u should ride for another 12 months.... while in next 12 months, u can save ur bullet, top up ur current budget and can get a better roadbike.

like what butthead asked, what's ur intention for roadbike in next 2 year, 5 years, long term plan?

wow... butthead, you're like CEO...

A good point there.

My far reach planning is to maintain the bike for everyday use, perhaps for another 3 years.
Upgrading parts, or cosmetics.

Not into very high end or competition parts. Main aim is to cycle better and more efficient with reasonable budget.
*
are you using the bike to commute? to work or something?

boss, what do u think of non-replaceable rd hanger? for example, lynskey helix. should avoid or doesn't matter?
me thinks it's flat out stupid... a tree branch flying into your spokes and then snagging your derailleur will cause you to throw your frame into the dumpster...

for the minor benefits a non-replaceable offers... not worth the risk..

over the years of riding.. it happened to me only once... and on a road bike somemore... had to swap hanger, RD and deal with a broken wheel because it snapped a pair of spokes on the way up...

don't underestimate tree branches...

A worn out tyres will give you less rolling resistance..so I guess using my gp4000s on a trainer will make it much faster on the road? tongue.gif
what logic is that? it's like saying buy a new car tyre and doing burnouts until the tyre is flat so it saves fuel???

QUOTE(mrjgx @ Dec 7 2012, 04:11 AM)
List of bike service in my lbs package, total cost is RM290...worth it or not? It's more costly than my car service back in Malaysia..but with 7 mechanics in the workshop, we still need to make an appointment to book a slot for the bike service.  blink.gif
usually... people don't touch your balls (bearing) lar... so, it's an additional thing that they mostly don't do here... it looks like they are close to transferring frame with a service like that... with bike wash and polish as well.. haha

wonder what they meant with the cable and housing, expect you to buy new ones? it's hard to take out cables without fraying them...

that said, still a bit expensive for me...

QUOTE(miaopurr @ Dec 7 2012, 09:01 AM)
they no remove, regrease pedal n its bearings?

there's one shop here in KL that claims to provide full strip down, service and reassemble for rm200. not sure what they actually do.

how to regrease pedal bearings??? regrease the threads ada lar.. never seen people try to take out the spindle before... mostly take out that time already koyak...

i don't trust anyone to mess with my pedal spindles... it's the only one thing that is keeping me on my crank arm and preventing me from jamming my balls on the top tube...

itu maciam... fly to US holiday a bit bit while getting a new bike is a viable solution?

they have lots of titanium frame builders there...very custom and all the tubes are hand cut and hand mittered... and also hand jigged, hand assembled, hand welded, hand polished... and other than giving the bike a hand job... i don't know what hand they can give it anymore...

wei... you manyak requirement ler... dun sacrifice a bit where can get??? like wan marry super model also must propose with 10 carat diamond ring right?? (i dunno how much is 10 carat, cincai cakap lar)

you can try ksh ttdi and see if they can produce the bike measurements for you.. but i doubt they have that level of expertise although they have the rig...

last time it used to be bike boutique where KH is now.. but they adi bankrupt... your best chance is to go singapore bike boutique and see if they still have frame fitting services...

very detailed one... takes 3 hours and they put you through a series of workouts and adjust the contact points up,down, left, right and center until you feel right...

then the measurements they usually don't have a frame for... hahahaha

P/s: it was my first puncture after 1000km and the gp4000s mileage was only around 400km I think..shit happens, and I'm lucky to have a support car for the ride..it'll be worst if the tyre blew off in a fast mountain descend!

I'll post the picture tonite, it's no tubular but why the heck did it exploded?
*
pure co-incidence lar...

it could be a damaged sidewall in the first place and the casing could not hold it together... once the pressure forced the tube through the damage casing...that's it...

it could be a small slit from a stone, glass or whatever that could have caused the damage in the first place...

lucky you did not have to walk 45kms... or not only will you have to buy a new tire... you have to buy new cleats too...i walked 5kilos before and i obliterated my already used cleat in that single walk... should have just walked barefooted...

Added on December 7, 2012, 6:28 pmmy theory is that... as TPI goes up... the reliability of the tire goes down...yes high thread count gives you more suppleness and less rolling resistance... but due to the finer threads use to achieve higher thread count in a given area, the toughness of the thread is reduced...

you imagine, would it be harder to cut or puncture a cloth that is weaved out of fine yarn or thick yarn?
user posted image

the fine yarn might make the weaved cloth more soft and flexible but due to lacking in diameter or thickness it is also easier to damage the yarn.. furthermore, with finer mesh, the protruding object has it's job cut massively in trying to find a easily penetrable route in the form of holes in between the weaves as the holes will no doubt increase with thread count...

on the other hand, the protruding object has to deal with less occurrences of the holes and more yarn which is also coincidentally thicker and harder to snag and break...i believe the fineness of the weave is the same between thread counts, but it is rather the factor of the thread that affects the puncture reliability...

just my personal rationalization lar, not proven at any point yet or supported by any facts...

it's a compromise between performance and reliability... you just have to weigh your options...

wow... normally people no carry spare tyres.

Er... are ur sidewall tyres breaks up?? my GP4000s got blow before, its was park at side during breakfast before ride start, and suddenly BOMB... blow out !

i quickly ran to check... tube is gone... big hole... but my GP4000s intact... just sidewall being blow out by tube...

i changed new tube, and put in back slowly with helps my another cyclist... and i start my ride for the day!
*
is it a case of sidewall blow out without any damages to sidewall?

or the sidewall got damaged and the tube tried to force pass the puncture sidewall?
user posted image

both very different cases... the former one could be due to improper installation or a dented rim causing the tire bead to unhook from the rim and then the tube blows the tire outwards and then explodes...

I have the same question too, any particular reason to use wider tyres...anything to do with weight of the rider.. ??Alberto and Sagan on either ends of the scale as an eg. comes to mind.
*
it is tested to have lower rolling resistance due to lesser tire drop... and you can run lower pressure so iy rolls over road irregularites better improving comfort
