i would still think a D400 is coming...seeing as how the D5200 has basically inherited the D7000 AF 4800 module.
dunno what the D7100 can inherit then to make it better than a D5200...
unless it inherits a 3500 AF module, then that is more for a D400.

Actually if you think... Nikon didn't have any body up against 7D... D300s is just a D300 with video, nothing new compared to 40D -> 50D -> 7D kinda upgrade.

Yeah that's why need D400

isnt a 50D about equal to a D90?
so 50D -> 7D == D90 -> D300?
and now 7d mk2 = D400?

according to NR, nikons next announcement is dx stuff guys..

imo D7000 is nikon's guinea pig, and has already been shown to have features that both newer FX and DX bodies inherited.
so the D7100 if announced, will need to have something special

For those above 18 years old...

IMO back then, D90 was a class by itself with D60/D3000 type body (entry model with single dials) competing against the 500D class from Canon. Then it goes to the 50D up against the D300/D300s which has weather sealed, magnesium body etc, dual dials, top LCD. The D90 is in between a entry and semi pro DX body actually. Canon didn't have anything to compete against the D90 class, except the 60D which was to go head on against the D7000. D7000 then is like between D90 and D300s. Ahh crap I'm confused with what I'm typing already

In summary what I could recall back then was...

D3000 -> D5100 -> D90 -> D7000 -> D300/D300s
500D -> ??? -> ??? -> 60D -> 50D -> 7D

Wait and see I guess...

Faster FPS, better ISO, etc is considered upgrade too for me at least.

The wireless feature is still damn pricey for most of us especially the ones for D800! And the crap part is, D800 isn't working completely with those Eye-Fi cards T_T

My take on this is Nikon is pretty smart this round as previously D700 took a portion of D3's sales! I mean come on, a cheaper body with same sensor, AF, metering and just 1 fps slower but comes with pop up flash. Its a steal!

D800 too big? Nah, D800 size is the same as D700! And D800 is much nicer to hold too, improved grip is win. But then again, for me D800 is the best combination so far, 6fps in crop mode as I use the burst majority during motorsport only. D800's pretty good for motorsport, I used it for MotoGP and loving it! Oh right its a poor man's sports gears as I do not have big telephoto like the press D700 8fps in crop mode --> almost no MP left

ya faster fps in new dx body is entering d400 territory.
previous rumors say d400 will have 24mp and 10fps.
I would think d7100 will come out later after d400 and that it'll again be the highest mp dx body like when d7000 came out...so maybe 30mp?
