When will the Nexus 7 32GB with 3G be available in the local stores, and roughly how much will it cost?

And one more thing, why the sale price is higher than US retail price?
*
US retail price is lower as Google gets additional income from sales of its playstore books, music and movies
Google claims it is not making any profit selling the tablet, which is probably true

Nobody knows.  But there is AP set selling in garage already.  Since Asus provides international warranty (not 100% sure on 3G model though), there is no difference buying local or AP.  Can get slightly cheaper from Spore around RM1,200 compared to garage average RM1,300 ready stock.

Need to check if Newegg is bringing in 3G model too and at what price.  If only RM200 extra from WiFi version, i might get the 3G version.

Thanks for the info.

Regarding original vs AP, what are your thoughts or opinions? I asked some retailers, not on the Nexus 7 but on the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. According to one seller, the only difference is the AP set is covered for software failure only but not hardware failure. So if the hardware fails, the unit is good as dead. Even if it can be repaired, the cost of repair will be close to a brand new unit and it's not worth it to fix the thing.

As for the Asus international warranty, perhaps it is wise to check whether it is covered for everything ie. both software and hardware failure. Even if it is, I suppose the unit will need to be shipped to the Asus HQ(in Taiwan?) for repair. Will need to pay for courier fees, and getting an original unit may be a better choice. If nothing happens within the warranty period, then I would say the AP set is worth the money, but nobody can predict if the set will develop faults or not within the 1-2 years warranty period.

What do you think?

No need to think - just need to read. You haven't read thru this thread thoroughly. Uncle Benny has shared his experience claiming warranty of his imported rooted N7 from Asus service centre in JB. They honour the warranty without question. Eventually Uncle Benny get a new replacement set. biggrin.gif

Edit: Yes, for Samsung, it is different since Samsung does not provide international warranty. Heard one Samsung user here said there was one Samsung AP device owner want to repair his AP set at Samsung service centre but they did not want to accept even though the customer agree to pay the repair charges. rclxub.gif

I have bought several Samsung phones/tablets ( AP ) from directd, satugadget.com and item.com and all are perfect till I sold it off. Never have need to claim warranty. I'd suggest for AP you buy from directd as they are more established and have own technician and service center. These sellers will honour all hardware failures. Standard warranty of AP sets range from 18 -24 months while display and accessories is usually 6 months. If you buy AP from any other 3rd party parttime resellers do not expect too much for warranty services. Their prices could be cheaper but seriously it is not worth it. The guy who told you hardware failures is not entertain is lying to you and obviously he is one of those many 3rd party unauthorised resellers

Nexus 7 is international warranty and you can submit in claims to any ASUS center in Msia ( see Asus websites for the various centers in Msia). Quite few users here has successfully claim warranty in KL Service center for sets bought from USA. My first 16GB ( bought directly from Google USA) I claim warranty for motherboard replacement and is FOC despite my tablet still boot up showing clockworkmod recovery and showing bootloader unlock. The technician in JB screw up replacing the motherboard and i got a free unit ( Msian unit) as replacement. And I do not even need to show prof of purchase. They just key in the tablet serial number and system verified is a genuine sales unit

OKay thanks for the info. So you are saying AP set for Nexus 7 is covered for everything, and warranty claim can be done at the local Asus service centres. If that's the case, will there be an "original" Nexus 7, since there won't be any difference between an AP and original set.

Don't have time to go through all the pages of this thread. I normally just go to the last page.

So for Samsung AP set is not recommended.

Cheers.

yes, i believe not only Uncle Benny, some early adaptors who get their first batch of N7 from US has problem with their speakers and all go thru local Asus service centre to get theirs fixed (correct me if I remember wrongly).

Whether to get AP set or not depends on how you value the local service support. For me, RM300-400 more for local Samsung warranty is the price i willing to pay.

So far I know of only one retailer , Hotspot at Lowyat Plaza ( ground floor) that sells Nexus 7 sets as authorised reseller
Dont worry many users here in this thread has got their so called AP/foreign purchased sets and ASUS KL has honor the warranty. There was another user who also got a free replacement set. Most other users sent in to replace their speakers and repair screen display issues

looks like Asus has given Google a pledge for good service since this is the first time Google chooses them as OEM partner. thumbup.gif But on the other hand, some (maybe all? not so sure) of the Asus laptops also has international warranty.

most likely can, since Singapore N7 3G users also bought it from US. Singapore 3G is the same as ours. But dun take my words for it. blush.gif

btw, how can we check the 1 year warranty period start from when? Or Google will detect it once we fire up the device the very first time and auto-register it. tongue.gif
