Sony sound engineers from Japan paid a visit few days before and show us this interesting stuff:

The WORLD FIRST PORTABLE MUSIC PLAYER - SONY TPS-L2 cassette Walkman!
Born in 1979, older than most of the forumers over here I think. Ya definitely older than me too. I'm only 18. tongue.gif

Unfortunately they didn't brought a cassatte, so we didn't manage to try it out. The analog sounding of old machine is something that very difficult to be replaced.

The DAP really nice (and expensive haha)
I even prefer the sound signature of WM1 direct balance out to Z1r. More analog. Of course the TA-ZH1 has much stronger driving ability.

The gold plated casing one is NW-WM1Z. Aluminum one is NW-WM1A.
To me the 1A will be a value buy. There are some noticeable difference between 1Z and 1A, but overall performance quite close.

TA-ZH1ES + 4.4mm balance cable + MDR-Z1R

This will be the world first turntable that can convert analog signal to DSD via USB.

if connect with 3.5mm audio jack, or USB type B?
*
3.5mm still ok. sound process by ur device dac.
usb type b not sure the compatibility to hand held devices.

actual music performance is choose the best spk first. then only look at process and etc.... bad spk give bad sound no matter abcdefg technology is used.

for this budget i will go denon ceol if not moving travel and not size constrained.

means if i connect my ZX2 to X99 via 3.5mm audio jack, the ZX2's amplifier process the sound before output to X99 then X99's amplifier works?

dont worry bout double volume control. they are just.... numbers.
u are not losing quality (to human ears) becos ability of adapting sound.
unless u are measuring it. then loss of dynamic range can be detected. thats another topic if u like to know more, welcome to ask.

dynamic range (dr) is highest vol point vs lowest vol point.
let say a portable player has volume control 0--100%

50% is no boost (0db gain reference point) and 51% onwards is boost.

u adjust 10% the song play with reduced loudest point and lowest point. cannot hear tiny sound.

now up 50% the song able to present loud point clearly and low point too. perfect for near field but loss when u move further.

u need boost. turn up 70-80%
loudest part only increase a bit but tiny sound goes up a lot.
u are reducing dr. at the same time human ear adapting will block the loud part (protect ur brain)

up 100% no difference between loud and low already. bg noise also come out.

when connecting 3.5mm to x99, ur walkman device what reference point??
instruction dont tell. sales ppl dunno lol

so is not a bad thing unless persuade for perfection, not gonna achieve from portable spk x99 anyway.

ok. so i guess i understand what u mean. u mean as long as i don't tune the volume higher, the audio quality won't be either distorted or unpleasent?

far from distort bro. just lose the dr of original content.

short example is soft wind blow (barely heard) and thunder (must loud).
after mess up is FFUUUUUUUU wind blow (typhoon?! ) and thunder (equal loud).

tried the MDR-Z1R + NW-WM1A combo in 313 somerset, Singapore, very comfortable, light weight, polite sound sig, can listen for long time without fatigue, however lag of wow factor like the other flag ships.

Good for Hi-Fi listeners, not for pop and normal listeners.
