If my lower tank needs a filter by its side. Not top not bottom..what filter will it be?
Canister on the floor or on a stool or on a chair?
*
stool or chair will do. just like i did for my 3 tier. but make sure your pump is strong enough must used the submersible pump where the nozzle is pointing from top. brows.gif

then problems solved.
Just have two trickles. (top tank) just put like usual.
(bottom tank) Filter sits on stool.
The nozzle pointing from top is the ugly looking pump like the one you posted tadi?
Then i need to get two since my current is just side nozzle

cannister still do pretty well on the same level with the tank, but that will put more load on the cannister pump.
you could use multiple HOB filters as a backup though.
or improvise a long stack of breeding tank and convert it into a side/HOB filter and hangging on the tank side/back
i did that a while back and choke inside of them full of stem aquatic plants..acting them as a HOB + veggie filter.

is ok la as long your tank is clean is ok already. but why don't you try without the small canister. meaning all goes to big filter.

it wont work without the overflow box. Hence if u use direct pipe inlet to filter, once the pump power cuts off the water will over flow from the tangki. So this is where the overflow box comes in. It helps to maintain and block water level from overflowing even if the pump is not working. There is only one pump in this system.
Check this video. It's somehow similar to the one below. Just mine is a simple version. The reason for all this trouble is mainly because i can't drill hole in my tank. The overflow box is mainly to solve this issue for sub tank filter system.

Yes, AFAIK they can comm without probs. The only issue is gars quite aggressive when it comes to feeding time. If the feeding is basically on feeder fishes (as in my case), most probably gars will finish all the fishes before Endi can get any of them.

The solution, as in my fren's case, he feeds the bottom dwellers with prawns (dead or alive lol) and sometimes, meats.

I'm lucky that my arowana doesnt take feeder fishes (except occasionally when he's too hungry, maybe). So most of them goes to bichirs belly biggrin.gif

*Nice siggy u hv there. Proudly gunners fan here also.

Bichirs and especially Gars grow very fast. U'd want as biggest tank as u can afford.

Furhter reading here : http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/predatory/gars.php

QUOTE
In aquariums gars are quite demanding and require a lot of space and clean water. I recommend you to use as big a tank as you can for your gar, and I wouldn’t recommend keeping gars in an aquarium smaller then 200 Gallon/720 L. And that should be considered a minimum, a 400 gallon/1400 L tank should be preferred.

Feet to gallon conversion : L x H x D x 7.481 = Gallon US.

So a normal six footer should get about 180 gallons of water.

6 x 2 x 2 x 7.481 = 179.5 gallons.
