zstan Hi! I just wanna ask, have you graduated from Monash Pharmacy course yet? From the forums I know that you've studied there but I'm not sure if you've finished the course. If you have, may I ask is it possible to use that degree to apply as a Pharmacist in Singapore? Its a separate degree from if we study at the campus in Australia right? sweat.gif And may I ask if you're working anywhere now? Thank you!

yeah i'm done. waiting for a job now. with the malaysian degree it's not possible as a fresh grad but if you already have a few years of experience it is possible.. but maybe not in the clinical settings.. yes the australian qualification is different.

Ohhhh I see. biggrin.gif Did you do a credit transfer to the campus in Parkville? If that's the case, will we still be receiving the same cert as with 4 years in Malaysia? blink.gif sweat.gif

nah no money lol. and during my time there was no credit transfer. ermm it will be a different cert offered by the respective uni. monash parkville & monash malaysia.

academically wise then it would be the same.. let's say if u wanna further ur studies overseas.. but since pharmacist is a highly regulated profession then where u graduate from makes a difference.

Ahhh I see! yawn.gif So would the cert from Parkville be recognized by the Singapore Pharmacy Council then? >< Just want to know so that it'll help in my decision on whether I would want a credit transfer or not..

surely that information, which is freely and easily available online at the spc website, can be searched?...

the only additional information is that spore does NOT recognise any offshore degrees awarded by branch campuses.....

the two articles in the star shows there are much public misconception about this matter....

when they say it cost more in the clinic, that is because of the consultation fees...with separation, there will still be the doctor's consultation fee, and then the price of the medicine.....

the other misconception is, they think they can walk into any pharmacy and get any medicine...with separation, expect tighter regulation, and the common practice of pharmacies dispensing pom without prescription illegally to have to stop...so they will have to go see a doctor, get a prescription, then return to take the medicine...expect the doctors to demand close control on dispensing of pom....

there is no doubt that separation will increase the cost to patients.....denying it would be like pretending gst will not increase the cost of things....

Hi, I'm currently an A-Level student who will be taking A2 this coming June. I just want to ask, if I study the MPharm course at University of Nottingham (2+2), will the certificate be the same as those who study directly 4 years at University of Nottingham? I hope to register as a Pharmacist in Singapore and University of Nottingham is in their list of international accredited universities. But I'm wondering if this only applies to UK citizens, or anyone holding the certificate. Thanks in advance guys! biggrin.gif

Hi. Yes, the MPharm cert for 2+2 students upon completion of the degree would be the same as those who study full time in the UK campus. The same applies to the recognition of the cert as well. I myself practice in the Malaysian government setting since graduation and I have plenty of coursemates who are currently practicing in the UK and Singapore.
All the best smile.gif

Anyone with experience in hospital pharmacy? My modules have been mainly about community pharmacy (UK based) so I don't exactly know what happens in the hospital as a pharmacist, especially in Malaysia.

Hi, Decky. Ya, I understand your concern. I experienced that too when I first started my PRP. It is true that we didn't learn that much about injection stuffs, particularly on the use of IV antibiotics in the university, but I believe with adequate effort in learning, you will survive just fine, in fact, it is a lot easier to learn in real life practice compared to learning from the textbooks. smile.gif

Oh! Thank you so much. But I just saw on the Singapore Pharmacy Council's website that "*The whole course must be done in the campus of the University/Country offering the pharmacy qualification." So would that mean it's no longer recognized? That sentence seem to imply that we have to finish all 4 years in UK sad.gif rclxub.gif

Sorry. >< Because all I saw at the website was *The whole course must be done in the campus of the University/Country offering the pharmacy qualification.* So to be honest, I'm not really sure if the Parkville cert is recognized or not.. What do you mean by offshore degrees awarded by branch campuses? I'm really sorry for asking.

Oh, I see. I'm not too sure about this. Back then in 2012/2013, they even conducted interview sessions in Nottingham, UK for MPharm final year students who wished to do their pre-reg in Singapore and a few of my friends who did 2+2 have successfully received their offer.
Well, I guess the best way to find out is to give the university a call and ask them about it.

Oh that's nice. smile.gif Its okay, I have just emailed the council and I'll just wait for their reply. The course is kinda pricey though :S Did you manage to secure a scholarship (or are there any available) for the last compulsory 2 years at the UK campus?
