Thanks for your response. I know I should choose my career based on my own interests but it's kinda hard to build a career out of my interest, which is travelling (Too short to be a flight attendant, dammit).

I'm really unsure of whether I want to pursue pharmacy as a life-long career. I might lack the enthusiasm for it but I actually don't mind saving people's lifes/taking care of their health as I would like to do my part of contributing to the society.

I probably will have no problem with the memorisation parts either since I've been a Straight A's student all my life so I know that one can learn anything as long as he is willing to put in the time and effort into it. It's just that I'm tired of studying after working so hard for all these years.

I don't really know what I want do in the future. I am probably a lazy piece of shit for just wanting an easy life and earning enough money to support my dreams of travelling around the world. Looking back, I should have just accepted the IPG offer, go through a relaxing five years training, and become a teacher, though it would probably end of my dreams of travelling, since teachers earn quite low wages in Malaysia (Except for the years when a teacher already close to retirement, but at that age, does one have the energy to travel anymore?).

Sorry for the rant, it's been bothering me so long that I felt a overwhelming urge to get it off my chest. I'll probably just stop worrying about my ambitions (or the lack of it) and put it aside for the meantime, and focus more on finishing my pre-U first.

take your time to think and don't rush into a degree smile.gif i've waited one year before starting my degree so that i won't have regrets. and yeah, finish your pre-U first la. worry about degree later biggrin.gif

Hi,

I was wondering if there are any of you out there who did their pre-registration in the UK, registered as a UK pharmacist and then returned to Malaysia?

Can you tell me what your experience was like? I know that we still need to undergo the compulsory service to register in Malaysia. How did you go about applying for that? Did you have to wait for a long time? Do we also have to take the forensics exam?

Also in regards to the compulsory service: do you just randomly get thrown wherever they want? Or do they take into account your preferences?

As a UK student planning to register here first, I would really appreciate someone explaining this to me as the Malaysian pharmacy websites are all terribly lacking.

well i know someone who did that. no you don't have to undergo the compulsory service if you do not plan to work in the government. yes you have to take the forensics exam to get your A license. Jobs are pretty much available everywhere if you are considering working in community.

First batch graduated students are in their 2nd year of government service if I'm not mistaken.

It's already got full accreditation. Consequences would be unable to secure a job.

If I am not mistaken, it cost around 120k. But I suggest you to call MSU to know more about the fees. smile.gif

Greetings smile.gif

I'm a UiTM student in my second year of BPharm, will graduate in 2017.

Just want to ask, my lecturers said that the pharmacy jobs now are quite tough, is it true?

And I'm very interested in working in pharma companies, any tips for me?

still relatively easy compared to the likes of Australia, UK, Singapore, Taiwan etc. where the hardest part for pharmacy graduates is to wait a few months to get a posting..

Dear relentless_wind,

Let me share my experience with you as i am a pharmacist myself. I am qualified in both UK and malaysia.

If you are studying abroad eg UK or Australia and you decide not to take their professional exam after graduating and come back to Malaysia to work(In UK it is call the RPSGB exam during my time 4 years ago), you will need to serve the government for 1 year OR any private sector for 1 year + forensic exam.

But if you have done your pre-reg and passed your RPSGB exam, you just need to take the forensic paper and you can start working in any pharmacies when you come back to Malaysia.

The current situation with government vacancies here are quite limited. After applying to the government, i know some grads have to wait for a good few months before they are being allocated. Almost always you do not get your choice of locations.

Hope that helps ! thumbup.gif
