I already have a conical burr. Initially looking at Oscar, but the how is the start-up time? 15 minutes?
*
15 mins is ok.. But 30 mins would be better due to heating element is shared between brewing and steaming. Before pulling a shot, remember to do an 8 sec flush to stabilize brewing temperature for espresso..

Yea, 920XL. Love the feature. Review? Hmm....

Pros:
1. Dual boiler, extreme fast start up, around 2 minutes.
2. Basically everything can be customized from pre-infusion time, pressure to volume of the auto 1-2 cup shots to shot temperature to steam temperature.
3. Able to do self descaling.
4. Looks solid.
5. Tamper with guide on how much should be tamped.
6. 2 x pressurised basket and 2 x normal baskets
7. Free pitcher!

Cons:
1. Puck still occasionally stuck.
2. No burn proof steam wand.

Well, I'll chip in later..

Actually no burn steam wand might take a longer time to steam due to restrained diameter for additional insulation. How's the steaming power of the Breville?

2 min start up is really fast and actually quite practical for early morning quick brews.

Steaming power is slightly on the weaker side. The machine is able to set the steam temperature to between 130 to 140 centigrade. Higher temperature gave a better and more powerful steam. Not sure how it work here.

I saw a Breville BES870xl which comes with a conical grinder built on in Robinson Gardens as well as ETC in Bangsar sound center. Single boiler with PID. Retailing for RM 2999.

btw i saw this machine in robinsons garden, they are doing promo at RM 2799 instead of RM 2999...

may i know is this machine good as well? compare to others similar level of machine?

Oh.. if it lets you set the temperature, it's really good! Yeah, I heard about Breville's steaming takes time but it gives very consistent micro foam. I think as you get the hang of it, can try higher temperature biggrin.gif

I saw this promo during the weekend and it has a free pitcher too. I think it's a great machine to start with as it comes with a built-in stepped grinder, tamper, pitcher, 58mm PF, and baskets. Pretty much everything you need to start your journey haha. If you were to minus out the basic conical burr grinder cost (maybe around RM1000?), means the whole machine only costs RM1799. It's quite a steal smile.gif

It really depends on your budget.. between the two, they're almost the same except for the build quality. I presume you're looking at the new baby? If you are, is it made of aluminum and ABS plastic? The classic is mostly aluminum and metal. That aside, I would suggest looking at the grinder first.. a good grinder = a better cup. thumbup.gif

If you really have to choose between a Gaggia Classic, Baby or the Breville BES870XL.. Get the Breville.. it has a great finish and build quality, plus it has a conical grinder biggrin.gif
Try looking at the Rancilio Silvia as well.. it's the best in it's class haha

This machine has a built in PID which after steaming, it'll regulate the temperature for you to do the shot, eliminating surfing. Good deal.
