What exactly are you doing? I have no idea what reballing means.

a fix for YLOD. if im not mistaken most shop are using reflowing method. we are using reball. our shop normally do GPU repairs for macbook. this picture is my 4th reball work for ps3.

some other problems that is related to GPU are ps3 slim with display problem such are this.

Reballing involves in replacing the old solder joints with premade solder balls. It could be done with BGA and solder paste but i dont think it'll be advisable. It could be leaded or lead free.

Usually reballing are done with better setups and much more expensive like what u see above in his worklogs.It's foiled on all chips to prevent the infra heat from dmgin other components.

It could also be accomplish by heatguns.

But the result would most likely be the same. Once u remove the chip from the board by heat, the problem wont go away. It'll return.

you use the term wrong. BGA is the method on how the chip is soldered to the board.

on small chip like handphones you can use a heatgun. but for processor, YOU CAN'T use a heatgun for reballing process. (i dont think i need to go in details why)

*all electronics that is using BGA method is prone to broke by time. its part of big company biz plans so consumer would consume more of their product.

*the result is not the same as doing reflow, different types of solder is replaced. which is more tolerant to heat.
expect the lifespan more than 1 year.

*reballing is the ONLY method of processor repair that is suggested by microsoft, gigabyte and nvidia.

not really a high tech stuff honestly. my shop is just small. we actually do just reballing most of the time.
we do contract for repairing GPU on macbook.

small workplace really.


for macbook pro repairs we have a very high success rate.




Price for PS3 reball is rm350
take note if the gpu is dead because of too much reflowing you need to change a new GPU, and that cost an extra rm120.
*this what happen when you have HEATGUNNERS.



waranty : 3 month. if YLOD occurs too many times during this 3 month (which i doubt it will happen). we will refund you back rm200.

location: Puncak alam.. if too far you can always post it, it cost around rm30.

yes. but we mainly do GPU here, and we don't have ready stock lens. i suggest you send to other shops that have ready stock ones so the repair would be quick.

we accept, as long the motherboard is not fried and beyond saving. whoever reject that i can assure they are doing reflow. here some small update. more pics to come.

*few minutes later : GPu lifted, board cleaned. than reach camera.... and found out it was only capturing 33 seconds lol.

so i only got some pics for you guys/girls.

lifting GPU and cleaning is by far the most dangerous process is reballing, 1 tiny mistake, and say goodbye to your motherboard. but we have much experience, till we are sure that the motherboard will be 100% save during this process.

I don't have COD MW3 so I can't give any comments on it. Nowadays my 15 yr old son is playing with the PS3 (I became a casual gamer) and his favorite game is Battlefield 3 and normally he plays hours on weekends so far got no problem.

Just wait until you got the YLOD then do the reballing....

so a forumer here send 3 stuff to me, a ps3, and 2 laptops.

out of the 2 laptop 1 is reballed. but since the owner is very cooperative and very patient i probably will only charge him few ringgits.
the total for 1 ps3 reball, 1sony vaio reball, 1 reflow is rm380. honestly it only cost me the solder balls, flux and propanol. the hard part was repetition until it succeed.



will update the full worklog pics soon. i need to compile it first. the stuff will be ready to be returned to customer by next week.

reballed at 180c. if stills occur, later rise up to 220c.i normally do 250c, but ur GPU got no heat spreader. quite worried to go to max heat.

I got a PS3 that when play graphic intensive games like deus ex, it will hang in 10-15 mins. But if I play low graphics games like Plant vs Zombies, it can go on forever.

What u think is the problem (if got) and can it be saved? How much and got warranty? Btw, where ur workshop?

honestly i can go more detail than that. but got pending work atm. no time to take detailed pics lol. i need to catchup fast. probably GPU, but then again are you playing ISO? maybe the file is corrupted or etc. do check first.

warranty 1 year. i have to be honest, this repair only cost me solder balls, some flux, and propanol. its only fair for me to give a full 1 year warranty. (unless the GPU died)

*atm the moment i dont really have an x-ray machine to see the solder balls connection after reball. the x-ray machine cost around rm35 000. so im just using try an error thermal profile plus very little knowledge about solder.

Hey bro, you wouldn't happen to be able to resource a replacement Cell processor would you? I fuxxed mine up trying to replace the IHS. Got the IHS off, but not sure if the processor itself was damaged in the process or if it was because of a busted joint below the processor.

Are there anyone else who does PS3 reballing AND produce proof of workmanship like cinkiah? I want to get my PS3 reballed and he seems to be super busy.

For future use, please state your LYN ID, phone number (optional), location and proof of your reballing efforts.

I'd rather YLOD PS3s get repaired than ending up in dumpsters and not being recycled.
