a fix for YLOD. if im not mistaken most shop are using reflowing method. we are using reball. our shop normally do GPU repairs for macbook. this picture is my 4th reball work for ps3.

some other problems that is related to GPU are ps3 slim with display problem such are this.

you use the term wrong. BGA is the method on how the chip is soldered to the board.

on small chip like handphones you can use a heatgun. but for processor, YOU CAN'T use a heatgun for reballing process. (i dont think i need to go in details why)

*all electronics that is using BGA method is prone to broke by time. its part of big company biz plans so consumer would consume more of their product.

*the result is not the same as doing reflow, different types of solder is replaced. which is more tolerant to heat.
expect the lifespan more than 1 year.

*reballing is the ONLY method of processor repair that is suggested by microsoft, gigabyte and nvidia.

UGPM. we can try. honestly i have more experience in reballing laptop. but not much on PS3. But there is no harm in trying i guess.

not really a high tech stuff honestly. my shop is just small. we actually do just reballing most of the time.
we do contract for repairing GPU on macbook.

small workplace really.


for macbook pro repairs we have a very high success rate.




Price for PS3 reball is rm350
take note if the gpu is dead because of too much reflowing you need to change a new GPU, and that cost an extra rm120.
*this what happen when you have HEATGUNNERS.



waranty : 3 month. if YLOD occurs too many times during this 3 month (which i doubt it will happen). we will refund you back rm200.

location: Puncak alam.. if too far you can always post it, it cost around rm30.

got another ps3 for reball today.

yes. but we mainly do GPU here, and we don't have ready stock lens. i suggest you send to other shops that have ready stock ones so the repair would be quick.

we accept, as long the motherboard is not fried and beyond saving. whoever reject that i can assure they are doing reflow. here some small update. more pics to come.

sorry for the late updates, we actually trying to capture some video of the reballing process.
lights on ~ camera on ~ action!.
*few minutes later : GPu lifted, board cleaned. than reach camera.... and found out it was only capturing 33 seconds lol.
sorry to disappoint you guys, probably will put some videos later on.
so i only got some pics for you guys/girls.

lifting GPU and cleaning is by far the most dangerous process is reballing, 1 tiny mistake, and say goodbye to your motherboard. but we have much experience, till we are sure that the motherboard will be 100% save during this process.

and we go beyond than just cleaning with a piece of cloth. we use ultrasonic + chemical.

this is the 3rd stage of reballing, reballing new solder on the GPU. already finish installed the GPU today, will post more pics once we have tested it and confirmed the reballing is a success

sorry for the late update. been bz lately finishing some stuff.
so a forumer here send 3 stuff to me, a ps3, and 2 laptops.

out of the 2 laptop 1 is reballed. but since the owner is very cooperative and very patient i probably will only charge him few ringgits.
the total for 1 ps3 reball, 1sony vaio reball, 1 reflow is rm380. honestly it only cost me the solder balls, flux and propanol. the hard part was repetition until it succeed.



will update the full worklog pics soon. i need to compile it first. the stuff will be ready to be returned to customer by next week.

still the same rm350. we quote the price for fixing YLOD. not for the reball job.

3) How much is the price if I only send the mobo? I disassembled my PS3 in my last reflow attempt.
same. better send the whole stuff because i will be testing it for 24 hours.

4) How long does it take to reball?
usually 4 hours. but it usually doesn't succeed on the first attempt. so i need to retry until it sticks correctly.

5) The Blu-ray clamp connector on my mobo is broken. Right now I'm using a piece of static plastic to wedge it in place but I wonder if you can replace it.

6) You said RM120 is the price of RSX GPU replacement. How about the Cell?
you can check ebay on that. i actually buy the processor from ebay. so i quote directly the price. we are taking only labor work as our profit
